Thanks! I was just curious about the profiles.

I am not sure if institutional profile or institutional geography play a role, but I would be surprised if the answer is that they do not.

Besides the fact that Bellarmine is Division II, is there a reason why they are a better candidate for Division I?  I am not making an argument either way.  Just thinking out loud.

Headed to D-I? Could happen:

it's happening.... here's a better source: https://www.stthomas.edu/athletics/athletics-conference-update/index.html

Rich, dude, you know better. Read the story you posted... the NCAA has to approve a waiver. The fact that it is a waiver tells you all you need to know.  It's not automatic.

Hello, hello, has the UST cause celebre subsided enough for hoops to be discussed yet?   ??? :( Sad, and unfortunate situation that has developed. I see that one of our long time posters has changed his handle in preparation for the move out of the MIAC.  When that day eventually arrives we'll miss all the purple clad folks.  :)  It certainly won't be the same around the MIAC.

But on to more positive developments... Thus far, only two complete team rosters have been posted, Carleton & St. Olaf. Mac has a roster posted but I find it unlikely or possibly concerning they only added one FY to their roster this year?? Until I see otherwise, I'll operate under the assumption it's not yet official.  Yikes.

Carleton

The Carlies may have picked up a nice player in Beck Page from Colorado.

St. Olaf

Another Albers brother down at STO.

Looking forward to the start of a new season!

2019-2020 UST Roster

https://tommiesports.com/sports/mbkb/2019-20/roster

I forgot that Elijah Hannah still had another year left.
Will be interested to see if one of the big guys develops, the Oshkosh transfer Rader or the new transfer (from UMD) Paper. Should be plenty of solid guard depth.

I have high expectations of Paper & Staloch-- they provide something UST hasn't had a lot of over the past 20 years or so-- size and muscle in the paint. When they have had it - Tommy Hannon in 2011-13, Ryan Saarela in 2014-16- they have done well nationally as well as locally.  Allen, Hannah & Rader should be nice 4-slot compliments to them. Should be a fun season-- antsy for the start!

Also, talent.  Those two were both All-Region/All-American players.   The Tommies would be thrilled for either Paper or Staloch to be that good.   (I think Staloch could be.)

Just letting everyone know that SMU had a pretty interesting game with D2 Winona State on Saturday. Down by 1 at half, and within 6 with 8 minutes left [before SMU ran out of gas and put in the bench].

SMU outshot WSU [52-50%]
SMU out rebounded WSU
SMU matched the intensity of WSU
SMU's bench outscored WSU's bench
SMU is better than last year
SMU has Eli Cave [will be in the MIAC POY conversation]
SMU has a Freshman of the Year candidate
SMU has two JUCO transfers who will be helping
SMU can shoot the 3 [40%]
SMU is an MIAC playoff team

Can't wait for the MIAC season to start..

I remember looking at their results after you made a similar statement toward the end of last year - while SMU was pitiful from a wins and losses perspective, they had a number of close games last year, so you might not be far off.

I hope you're right - it would be great to see a cellar-dweller make a move toward being competitive.  If you are right, they won't be able to sneak up on folks teams anymore - IMO - it becomes more difficult to succeed when other teams start viewing you as being a solid opponent, and thus preparing for, and showing up to games with that mindset.

The MIAC Preview is up...

I think the Birds will definitely be in the hunt for a playoff spot, and I think the Oles and Gusties might be looking over their shoulder a lot this season.  :)
