And interestingly, the coaches selected SJU #1 without benefit of viewing their 2019-2020 roster. As of 5:00PM Monday, November 4, the Jays roster still isn't posted.  Who knows, maybe Lucas Walford transferred back to Augustana. ;)

MIAC MBB Record Book

The season preview had a spot where they highlighted this record book they put together, very fun looking at the history of the MIAC! Sure others out there would enjoy this as well.

I know we are still a couple days away, but we have an exceptional West Region game on D3Hoops tip off day, with #12 SJU taking on #8 NWU at UW-Superior. NWU won the national championship two years ago, returned most of that team last year before getting bounced early in the second last year in Lincoln by none other than our (for now anyways) Tommies. Both teams graduate their best player (In NWU best two of three) but have a ton of talent to backfill and have very competitive years. This game will almost certainly be huge result when determining west regional ranks in Feb.

Of course I will have one eye on that game, and one eye on my alma mater as they host Morris for the annual season tip-off game. Too bad I don't have more eyes, there are going to be good games everywhere this weekend!

NWU pretty much only plays seven guys.  They graduated two of their very best.  I'm just waiting to see if they have the same kind of talent ready to step in and contribute.  It's just so easy for a team like that to fall back a few notches if the recruits don't come through.

Reigning FotY Anders Nelson is one of the best players left off the list. Not saying he should be included, but definitely will not be shocking if he is on this list come April, 2020.

Thanks for the link Smitty.

I think there could be a very nice rivalry between Anders Nelson & I'm assuming another possible SO PG, Colton Codute at SJU. Although Nelson has the edge in overall talent, both guys are similar in size, and have fiery, competitive temperaments.  Could be some nice battles within the battles this year and next...

While going through the team rosters to uncover the All Name gems for the FY All Name team ;) , I noticed a couple of conspicuous absences from the Carleton roster. SO to be post player Carlston McKenzie, and JR to be wing Matthew Stritzel are no longer listed on the Carleton roster. McKenzie played in 22 games last season, but Stritzel started in all 25 games last year and averaged 14ppg. Anybody have any ideas what might have happened?

I find D3hoops.com works pretty well generally. Just head there a few times. We would appreciate the site hits for the advertising (small) kickback. :)

I'll review the MIAC games later, but on ESPN right now #16 Baylor is playing Washington. Freddie Gillespie, former Carlton Knight, starts and plays major minutes for the preseason #2 Big12 team. He had a 14/7/2 stat line to start the season earlier this week! Love seeing him thriving in D1.

or as CBS Sports put it about this time last year Freddie is a "transfer from Carleton Community College in Minnesota"

No Jubie Alade tonight for the Johns.. definitely a tough loss on both ends of the court for them. Anyone have any word on him? Much closer game with him playing for sure.

I know we are fans of Colton Coudtee on this board, but he is a significant downgrade from Stokman at this time. 7 TO against one of the best Guards in the nation, Schimonitz.

Went and watched Bethel [vs. LaCrosse] and Hamline [Crown] the past two days. Following observations:

Bethel is much, much smaller than years past. Very poor shooting and rebounding for them in that game. Seemed a bit lost. Not sure if that was because of LaCrosse, beginning of season, or just not as good this season. Didn't look up to their #4 preseason rank.

Hamline is young and looked a bit lost too. Didn't seem interested in playing defense in the first half. Shooting was pretty bad as well. Got a little better in 2nd half. Seemed like a team without an identity looking to find said identity. Again its early. Down 13-20 most of the game. Came back at end but I am thinking it was because Crown was tired playing their 4th game in 8 days? Pre-season #9 looks about right.

Not meant to project for the season. Just observations from the last 2 nights.
Go Cards.
