Sources tell me that Cave is out, maybe until next year.
But he just fouled out. Frustrating game for him

Sources tell me that Walford is sick and will be our indefinitely... a huge blow to the Johnnies if true.

Doesn't look like it will matter tonight against the oles.

Coronavirus?

Tommie-Johnnie part 3 Saturday night in Collegeville (thanks coin flipper >:( :o)

Really enjoyed watching these last 2 battles with St Mary's, a fun and energetic team with most of their contributors returning for another season

The Tommies live stats entry leaves something to be desired, so instead we get a couple of JPGs of the 1st and 2nd half boxscores. Ridiculous:

SUMMIT!!!!!

Today's MIAC basketball history lesson---Tomorrow is the first time UST & SJ2  play in the Playoff title game since 2007 (a UST win).  It is the first championship meeting in Collegeville since 1994 (UST win, the "Tauer game"). This will be the 7th meeting in a champ game, and UST has won 5 of 6 (1990, 1993, 1994, 1995 & 2007) losing in 2000. The 1993 & 1994 games were the only prior games at SJ.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Having seen them a few times this season, Saint Mary's has a recipe for success. They can get to the rack with ease. Next years #1 goal should be to increase their 3pt % and their FT %. They are 8th and 11th in the MIAC respectively. It is hard to be successful in the modern era of basketball if you cant earn points proficiently beyond the arc and you can't take advantage of opportunities when you get to the line. I think almost everyone comes back from that team. The sky is the limit next year.

That '07 game was an ugly one for the Johnnies. My memories of that game were the Johnnies getting throttled and having U$T students throwing popcorn (and other objects) at SJU fans, myself included, as we walked out of Old Schoenecker Arena.

The less said the better about the St. John's St. Olaf game (from my perspective).  But I do want to say that the extended ovation from the St. John's fans, coaching staff and players when the Ole seniors came out of the game toward the end was very nice and classy.  Why I love D3 sports.

Was Nate Albers injured last night? I didn't see his name in the boxscore [or maybe I just missed it].

Poor kid. Bummer to end the season not on the court with his team..

Man, we're getting old! I remember that 07 title game between the Jays & Tommies!  If my memory is correct, the Jays had Tyler Westman, a D2 transfer, post players, the "Anoka twins," one of whom had a silly tattoo of the Nebraska "N" on his shoulder, and lil sharpshooter, Ryan Lieser.  During warmup, Lieser airballed a trey attempt and the Tommie fans began to torment him mercilessly with the "airball" chant. Lieser heard it and laughed it off, but ended up having a miserable shooting performance that day.  And although the Tommies did throttle the Jays that afternoon, one of the memories I also have of that day were Johnny and Tommie fans greeting and mingling with each other on the court once the game was over. That's the positive of a great D3 rivalry that will be sorely missed in the years to come.

Albers turned his ankle pretty badly near the end of the game vs. Augsburg.  I'm guessing that's why he was out.

Craig and Scott Schafer--they were both obsessed with UNL. No idea why. Neither had a connection to Nebraska.

As for Lieser, for whatever reason he (and the rest of the Johnnies) could not shoot to save their lives at Old Schoenecker when I was in school. The Johnnies shot 30.8% for the game (including an abysmal 7-34 (20.6%) in the second half) of the regular season game, and shot 33.3% from the floor in the MIAC Championship Game. They also shot only 15% from 3-point range in the Championship. All in all, it didn't really matter. SJU could have shot 50% from 3-point range and still would have lost that championship game.

The Toms had Bryan Schnettler, whom they somehow stole from Johnnie Country (Sartell). A bunch of Schnettler's Sartell-St. Stephen classmates at SJU would get the "Traitor" chant going when the game was at Sexton Arena. They also had Isaac Rosefelt, who transferred to UST from Bowling Green and now plays professionally in Israel.

The Johnnies missed out twice - Schnettler went to UW-Superior out of high school, then transferred to UST after his freshman season.

Schnettler was not recruited by SJU out of HS. He was told by a then-SJU assistant coach (no longer at the school) that "we dont recruit guys from small high schools. they never make it in the MIAC." (this same coach's attitude cost SJU any chance of landing Luke Linz a few years later). Schnettler went to UW-Superior for a year. When he looked into transferring, he was told essentially the same story by the J coaches. he landed at UST,  became a 3-point legend and member of UST's Hall of Fame. And Linz ended up at CORD, where he was MIAC POY--- so much for small town kids "not making it" in the MIAC.

Sag- wasnt that championship game the night Leiser sat on the UST bench draining threes before warm-ups and then went 1-79 or whatever it was from 3 point range in the game? (I think it was 1-19).

Leiser went 0-4 from beyond the arc and the team went 1-16 (6.25%).

Reminds me of the movie Slapshot quote: "We got Charlestown trailing here three to nothing, with 10:48 left in the first period. Whoops! Correction, folks. That's two to nothing. We don't wanna make it any tougher for the Chiefs than it already is."

Chapter 3 of UST and SJU tonight in Collegeville. Probably wont be making an appearance but will definitely be tuning in online. Cue the VOJ complaints now LOL  ;D :D :P

Massey projections have it as:

SJU 70 - UST 68

Smitty projections can factor in a missing Lucas Walford:

UST 74 - SJU 70

Big night for Mitch Plonbon and Kyle Sorenson to replace Walford. SJU needs to rebound well without their big guy inside, previous two games they have combined to out-rebound the Toms by 15.

What do any of the other MIAC rubes have to say?
