I believe MAC ranked 2nd in the most gay friendly poll by some media oublication.

Go Scots!

School starts around the MIAC this week.  Anything noteworthy to report from the various campuses, or is everyone caught up in football?

funbballer

Heard the former Mankato East coach, Dave Johnson, is going to assist at Gustavus this year? Is this true?

While everyone else is watching MIAC football tomorrow I will be attending the coaching clinic at Concordia University in St. Paul.  It should be a great event with Rick Majerus, Tim Grover, Forrest Larson, and Jay Wolf.

I heard the other day that CHOF graduate Will Bratzel did not enroll at Gustavus after all.  Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Coach Griess is my PE coach at Augsburg. I asked him why he left Chaminade for Augsburg and he said he liked Hawaii, but he was off of the island a minimum of 2 months a year since he was also the AD and he didn't get to see his family very much. That and the fact that he really liked what he saw at Augsburg, and that made him come here. He's a really cool guy and seems like a good coach, so hopefully the Auggies can return to the playoffs this year...

The Concordia University coaches clinc was quite enjoyable this past weekend.  Coach Majerus offered a number of comical antidotes and stories.

I saw alot of local high school and college coaches.  The MIAC crowd consisted of Coach Koz from St. Olaf, Johnny Tauer from UST, and Jeremy Tiers from Hamline.  Other faces in the crowd were Jay Pivec of Minneapolis Community College, Bob Vaughn of Braham, Greg Miller of Armstrong, Larry McKenzie of Minneapolis Henry, Sean Sweeney of UST and Isaiah Dahlman of Braham.

By the way, I was told by some of the above that Coach Griess at Augsburg has also hired former Hamline assistant coach Shawn Stibbins as an assistant.  Scoo8b, maybe you can confirm this?

SPLASH

Glad to join the board as a MIAC grad but bored at work and wishing I was getting ready to start another year for Mac.

Welcome to the board Splash!  Look forward to reading your insights & comments in the upcoming season.

Now that school has been in session for several weeks, any word or confirmed sightings of promising newcomers at Mac or other schools?

I can perhaps if I get a chance to talk with him tomorrow (well, later today). I'm sure it's true though...

scoo8b

Yeah, I talked to Coach Griess today. He said that he did hire Stibbins as an assistant and that he works really hard is going to be a very good coach...

Thanks for being so diligent scoo8b.  I've met Coach Stibbins a few times in the past and he seemed like a nice guy.  Any idea of who the freshmen recruits for the Auggies will be this season?

I had some time today and in going through some of the MIAC websites a few things caught my eye.  Hamline has announced their recruiting class which has 8 players according to the release I read.  It says that four of the recruits were all-state players.  I also saw that Carleton has a recruit from Buffalo, NY on their roster.  Anyone know anything about this young man?

Welcome to the board Splash. As much as I tried to ride you from the UST stands when MAC and the Tommies played, you were always able to shut my mouth with a clutch basket, which I hated you for and respected you for at the same time. Looking forward to your thoughts on the upcoming MIAC season.

Dang, Local C. -  You've already started scouring the school basketball websites?!?  It  would take a real early bird to slip anything by you.  8)

So of course, I had to follow suit & see what info I could find.  Not alot of news out there yet, but Hamline certainly appears to have shored up one of their offensive deficiencies & found some players who can score.  Looks like the Pipers could have some serious competition at the guard spot.  In the 4&5 spots the Hamline recruits seemed to be a little light, but I understand that  David Johnson from New London-Spicer is the goods.

By the way, what happened to the Moore kid from Mpls North?  In one of your posts earlier this summer,  I thought you mentioned he would be attending Hamline along with the Zujolic (sp) kid from Southwest.

Thanks for the welcome Drake and TH4L. I don't have much incite into newcomers around the league, since I only pay much attention to Mac now that I live in Denver. The only Mac frosh that could have a little immediate impact is Nate Assel, although he is going through a long process recovering from a serious back injury during his senior year.
I am interested to see how things go for Mike DesLauriers, who I believe is going to Gustavus (?) after he took a ridiculoulsy long time deciding on a school. I was very involved in recruiting him, really liked the way he played, and was convinced that he was going to Mac.
I'm also looking forward to seeing if there are any freshman that will have as big of an impact as Tommy Drake last year. He really kicked our ass the three times we played Carleton. Anyone have predictions for any young kids that will step right in and serioulsy contribute right away?

By the way TH4L I wish some of those clutch baskets had actually led to Mac wins, instead of narrow losses.

localcoach

Drake, I'm not really a football guy so I have to do something to pass the time.   :D
I haven't spoken with anyone affiliated with Hamline in nearly a month, so I don't know what happened to Jared Moore.

Welcome to splash, who I'm assuming is Erik Jackson?  You were a heck of a player and I enjoyed watching you win many a game for the Scots over the past few years.

I will offer up my two cents on impact freshmen.  I think two names to watch are Zach Johnson of Carleton and Jon DeRock of Hamline.  I think both have a chance to help their teams right away.
