He's a good solid body on the inside, but I don't think we will be discussing the loss of Whippler quite like the loss of TeBrake for Gac.  I remember the MIAC Championship game last year when Whippler had several opportunities to make a move and score but didn't.  He has the size and strength to be a solid player this year, but time will tell.

Just like on the court, that Splash fellow is quite the agitator.

Kel - Agreed except for one small detail: I've been told Hoff didn't go out. Can you confirm or deny?

If it's true, I would expect the Gusties to play without a true PG again with Wittwer stepping in for the departed Espo. AT and Hollerich would then do the majority of the ball handling I assume - unless Kaus or the freshman is good enough to step in and start right away. It will be interesting to see how Hanson handles that situation, just like it was last year.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

i honestly dont know why you guys are even talking about hoffarber?  He is aweful.  He was not good in high school nor was he ever good in college.  I think it is an advantage towards gust if he doesnt or didnt go out, cuz they wouldnt have to waste there time on him!

funbballer

No, Hoff is not awful; if you were a ball handler, you would not want him guarding you because he's strong, quick and will be in your face. He may not be the best shooting guard, but that wasn't his job; he's a good floor leader.

All Hoffarber can do is penetrate the D.  I dont mean that in a good way.  He will physically penetrate your a$$.  He gets way to excited in the showers after games.

i really hate to be hegative on here but i honestly feel that he is beyond aweful.  Not good, BAD!!!!  Not only on offense, but even DRIBBLING.  He is a pg in college and barely uses his left hand.  thats just bad!!!!!   Anways....anyone heard anything interesting after the first few days of tryouts?  I read in the paper awhile back that CHris Babcock transferred to hamline after play at mankato, is he any good??

gacbacker

Chris Babcock, much like Ryan Saunders, only got scholarship attention from college coaches because of who is dad is and was in the Timberwolves org.

Babcock was an ok high school player at Armstrong and that's all. His transfer to Hamline won't shake anything up in the MIAC.

It's great to see some familiar names back posting on this board.  Does anyone have anything to report from the first few days of practice?  I heard that St. John's is having their team scrimmage this weekend.  I might have to head up that way and check out the new look Johnnies.

Easy on Hoff guys. Is he the most talented player? No. Could he have helped the Gusties this season? Of course, he may have even started. Hanson finds ways to turn role players into solid contributors better than anyone else in the conference and he would have fit that mold quite well.

As an aside, I've heard Hanson is now wearing some sweet glasses on a daily basis. If he couldn't see before, I can't imagine how much better of a coach he will be with them. I am seeing a Ricky Vaughn-type explosion in his near future :)

"Wild Thing" Hanson?  Hmmm..... I can't picture the hair style!

Alright, I was in a semi-retirement from the board, but I simply won't stand anyone trashing my boy Hoff like that! The kid works his butt off every day, and helped the team last year. All he was told to do last year was come in, not make mistakes and do his job. An overwhelmingly majority of the time, he did. Sure, he made a few blunders every now and then, but everybody does.

I always said that Hoff was the kind of guy you hated to play against, but if he was on your team, you stuck behind him, sort of like an AJ Pierzynski (I know, I know, this is a hoops board, but c'mon, he's in the World Series!)  Hoff was always so darned pesky on defense. He could annoy you to death. However, if he was on your team, you thought the world of him, and relished the shot of playing with him, knowing that he would be the one getting in the face of the opposing team. At least, that's my opinion, having played a year of JV with him. (Well, and by play I mean me sit on the bench and cheer.)
(Reporter interviewing Charles Barkley after and altercation where he threw a fan out of a bar window)

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

I would also like to come to Hoff's defense. He has always been a gritty competitor and a winner. In high school, Hoff did a great job of getting the ball to all the egos at Hopkins and was money from  the 3 point line in critical situations. At Gustavus, it is apparent Hanson never has warmed up to him. I understand last year he was told never to shoot the ball, which I found a bit strange given his history of being a selective clutch shooter. If it is true that he is not on the Gustie roster, that is good news for the rest of the league.

Where do 2005 MAC grads go to kill time?  Looks like Posting Up!!

Nice to have a good MAC representation on the the board and nice to finally catch up after spending most of my time on the football board.

Early word out of the MAC camp is things are looking good.  There is a replacement for Splash and that stiff MacFarland won't be missed. :)

Alright OAS quit being coy,  the board's a little sketchy on detail right now.  Does "Son of Splash" have a name, or will we refer to him as SOS, Splash JR etc.?  :)  The same holds true for Megalomaniac who promises the other shoe will drop over at UST when word finally leaks out about the "other" new transfer.  We're waiting or should I say developing...
