Is it true that Kozmoski was coaching the Ole football team yesterday vs the Johnnies? By the looks of the score he must have!!!

Anybody heard anything from the Ole BB camp?

How about Carleton? C...maffia, what are you hearing? Is Zach Johnson as "all-world" as everyone (mostly him!) thinks he is?

Heard the Auggies are excited with the new staff over there

Z johnson has not seen a minute of the floor yet...because yesterday he caught a pass in the football game...johnson, hanks, kootsikas and i think one more will join the hoops squad when the fball season is over...word on the street is CAR kicked some tail in their scrimmage against luther today and looked very solid defensively as tommy drake and forkrud had nice all around games along with phillips

Thanks for the review of the Carleton scrimmage, C-Maffia.  Are they scrimmaging Eau Claire next?

Drake - I don't know the details, but I doubt they would be board material if I did. It sounds like a handful of quality players didn't make the cut, just like what's happened in the past at GAC.

Do you keep quality upperclassmen who won't play/will see little time but have been a part of the program or bring up promising underclassman? Hanson's track record seems to suggest he would rather have the younger players, which I can't argue with.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Does anyone know of any scrimmages that are taking place this weekend?  ???  I actually have some down time and thought I might check out a local team or two.

CC- thanks for the props!

Willy - I'll defer to your judgment & opinion.  Although the player we're discussing didn't have the high visibility of say an "Isaac Rosefelt" at UST, I think that anytime an All-State player, former D-1 walk-on, gets cut by a D3 school would be worth a sentence or two on a message board.  Just my opinion though.

I noticed that two more schools now have their rosters posted – Cord & UST. Meglo – I didn't notice any significant roster changes/transfers to the Tommie roster that you had earlier alluded to.  I did notice that former 04-05 mid-season Piper transfer Travis Jacobs, isn't on the roster this year.  In addition, the youngest Buri, Jim, isn't playing this year & may have permanently hung up the spurs. (Willy, note it's not just the GAC rosters I've been keeping up with  ;))

However, in what maybe a small, yet significant development, I see that Lonnie Robinson decided to go out & made the team as a soph this year.  Robinson was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Osseo & starred in both basketball & baseball.  As a FY at UST he decided to pursue baseball, & checking the stats it appeared he had a pretty decent season last year.

Osseo's had some nice players & state tourney success in the past couple of years.  Apparently, Robinson's game hasn't dropped off too much in his one year absence, and he should provide UST with some much needed athleticism & quicks out on the wing.  His high school teams were usually somewhat undersized, & Robinson frequently had to play the post because of his leaping ability & strength.  But back at his natural position of guard, he could give the Tommies a high quality, lock down type of defender.

We will all have a better idea of how strong this UST team might be after they return from their tourney at Wooster in a couple of weeks.  If they get by a very solid UW-Stout from the WIAC in their first game, more than likely they'll play Wooster in the tournament final.  Wooster is currently ranked #3 & received one 1st place vote in the preseason D3 poll.  If they split, & play Wooster real close, I'd say there might be something to all this preseason hype they've been receiving.  If they somehow can beat Wooster on their home court, you can only imagine how many Tommy boosters will pop up out of the woodwork!  They're certainly got the pieces to make some noise not only in conference play this year, but quite possibly on a national level.

Wow you all are posting machines.  Im sitting at work catching up on the past few pages.  I want to put in my two pennies about the whole d3-d1 conversation.  Splash and miacsuperfan said it when they stated that the best players in the MIAC could play large roles on d2 teams but not d1 schools.  Many of us passed up on scholarship money to play in the MIAC for the education and other personal reasons.  Its a little easier to pass up on a d2 school than a d1 school.  I can honestly say that if a major d1 school was recruiting me I would have been there in a flash.  I only got recruited by one small scrubby d1 school and a bunch of d2's.  There is a reason I didnt get recruited d1.  I was too short and skinny coming out of highschool to play anything other than the perimater at d1 and I didnt have the skills to compete with those guys who where just a step faster and just a tiny bit better at most aspects on the game.  I think that in most cases for d3 players, they have the skills to play d1 but not the athletic ability.  In my case I think it was probably the oposite.  I was lacking some of the ball handling skills to play on the perimater at the d1 level.  There are also a lot of pathetic cases in my opinion where players go ride the pine at a d1 level just so they can say they played d1.  I know a couple people who have done that and never saw a minute in 4 years.  I must admit though, if I could sit the bench for duke I probably would have done that!

Someone was asking about some updated from Bethel...I dont have much but I know they scrimage St. Cloud State on Thursday.  Im not sure how good St. Cloud is this year.  Bethel has been hit with a bunch of lingering injuries in which guys are having to sit out of practice.  I hope that isnt a trend.  The early word is that Madsen MIGHT have a stress fracture in his foot.  I sure hope he doesnt because that would really hurt BC.

Drake - I certainly understand your interests. However, he transferred in after I was gone and the only time I ever got to see him play was in limited action during varsity last year. He was solid, but hardly anything spectacular. Nice kid though. Honestly, that's about all I can say about the situation...maybe call Hanson and ask him yourself? His office number is on the web site :)

Gusties have a scrimmage today I think. I can't remember who it was against though and I doubt if I will hear anything about it for awhile since I will be in Florida soon until late Monday :)

Drake-As far as the addition that I had spoken of earlier this year, I had been told by a player on the team, in September, that a former All American TE for SCSU (I believe, the name of the guy and school slip my mind) was enrolled at UST and was going out for the bball team. From what I was told, he was about 6'6-6'7 and played in NFL Europe and on a couple NFL scout teams. According to this player, it looked as if he would indeed make the squad. Apparently he changed his mind. I was just musing earlier on the board about this 'recruit' as to how that would take the 'transfer talk' happening at UST (Sweeney, Rosefelt, Keating, etc.) to a whole new level. I know some people already thought it was mildly suspect.

Actually, Lonnie Robinson did make the squad last year as a freshmen. He participated in the first two weeks of practice, before quitting to focus on baseball. And youre right, Drake, he did have a very good season for the team. I agree with your assessment of Lonnie, in terms of his athleticism and defensive capabilities. Hes also a very strong finisher at the rim, in addition to being a physical player overall. He made a good impression on the coaching staff last year, and by the end of the season, probably would have worked his way into the rotation at the 3 had he stayed on for the year. He seems to have improved his ball skills, something that was lacking at this time last season. It will be nice for the Tommies to have a guy who can be a real defensive presence on the wing. They have plenty of scorers. Finding defenders has to be a early season priority.
