Without question, this has to be the exception to the rule.....every place else, the men outdraw the women's games

Funbballer- If you have the opportunity, try to check out a Knights' doubleheader this season, especially on a Saturday.  You will experience this phenomenon of 800 fans for the women, and maybe 300 for the men.  For student support, I think every women's team at Carleton comes for the women's game and then leaves, while maybe half the football team comes for half the men's game.

kel_varnsen

They can play the women's games whenever they want, and I still won't go.

Wonka....you don't have to read my Koz ramblings. About your comment, "if they were in the UMAC, they'd probably be title contenders"......well, to that I say, if I had different plumbing, I'd be a woman....so what's your point?   ???

Maffia.....wasn't a date, but when he worked at the Dairy Queen, I requested extra pineapple on my sundae and he refused, damn it all   ;)

CC....as I stated, Carleton is probably the exception to the rule. I'm happy they draw so well....wish the men did also. I was merely stating an observation. I would like to see 3,000 fans at both the men's and women's games...at all MIAC games. (yeah, yeah, I know, some of the facilities don't hold that many....but you get my point)

funbb - QUICK! DUCK! Something just went over your head!  :-*

I know AO, our resident UMAC player/poster, frequents these boards and it was a little shot at him. I think everyone on this board is in agreement that Olaf will be awful. However, I can't remember the last post you made that didn't take a shot at Koz. Keep kicking a dead horse if you want - Lord knows I have (*cough* Anderson *cough*) - but perhaps waiting until he does something worthy of it would be more appropriate? Perhaps tomorrow night? :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Wonka....LOL, you got me!  :D

I promise no more "Koz shots" until tomorrow night, although, I did pick STO to beat AUG!!

South Dakota Gusties

Conference play starts tomorrow.  Remember to get your picks in for the pick'em before 7:30 Wednesday night on the MIAC pick'em page.

Just wanted to get these out before the conference season starts:

*UST goes 18-2 and wins the conference, including the tourney championship

*Sweeney leads conference in assists

*Schnettler leads conference in 3PT%

*Drake leads conference in rebounds

*TeBrake leads the conference in scoring

*Concordia finishes below Saint Johns

*Hamline doesnt make "the jump" that many are predicting

*Neither does Saint Marys, as some bolder posters have predicted

*Gustavus finishes 16-4 in conference and nabs an at large bid

very interesting buzz over on the pick 'em page.  it looks like everyone is of fairly universal agreement about every game except concordia vs. st. john's.

i think this is the most exciting match-up of the night.  Games like this are of the utmost importance for a team like concordia.  concordia's biggest struggle this year will be against their own ability to focus.  coming through in competitive but winnable away games like st. john's could be what defines a successful season for the cobs.

this is what gustavus does well.  focus and clean up against all the beatable opponents on the road.  if concordia fails to intensely focus this year, they won't live up to their potential by any means.

mega - I actually agree with most of those predictions. However, if Ike can tap even 2/3s of his athletic ability this season I think he could run away with the rebound title. I'm not sure it'll happen, but I wouldn't bet against it.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

On the heels of megalomaniac's predictions I will offer the following MIAC men's basketball statements.

*UST goes 17-3, wins the conference championship, but loses to Gustavus in the conference tournament and doesn't get an at large bid to the NCAA's because it goes to a second WIAC school instead.

*Isaac Rosefelt leads conference in rebounds

*Tom Conboy leads the conference in scoring

*Schnettler leads conference in 3PT%.  I can't argue with this one.

*Jon DeRock is the conference newcomer of the year.

*Saint Johns and Hamline both make the playoffs.  Bethel finishes a close 7th.

As for tonight's games, I think the toughest match up is going to take place at St. Thomas.  I think that Carleton will push the Tommies to the brink, only to lose by 4-5 points.   My upset special is Macalester over Bethel.

Crazy Carl--

to your comment

Quotewhile maybe half the football team comes for half the men's game

But that half of the football team has fun when they go, especially if it is a playoff game against MAC. :)

I'm excited to see my first D3 action of the season.  I know BU hates to play at MAC but I also know MAC is beat up.  Should be an interesting game.

Local - remember the "Big Dance" has expanded to 58 teams that are eligible to compete in post season play this year.  So if UST has the season every one thinks they might have (17-3+ conference record), a loss in the conference tournament shouldn't  be the showstopper.  Provided, they win those other "winnable" regional games they'll have later on this this month against UW-LaCrosse & possibly UW-River Falls.

If the season plays out reasonably close to what the "experts" are forecasting,  I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 2 MIAC teams qualify for post season play & at least two teams from the WIAC.

Your occasional game capsule previews are nice, but you ought to get in on the fun & post your predictions on the Pickem board with the rest of us posters.  If I recall, you didn't play in the Pickem last year either.
