Bethel is weak and will not make the playoffs.  They have absolutely no inside game.  When their shooters are off, they're awful.  They hucked 27 second half threes and made very few.

MACs starting guards were in street clothes forcing some JV guys to get clock and we still won by 12.

Look for BU in the bottom third and MAC will be fighting for a playoff spot.  Conboy should lead the league in scoring.

If you looked at the MAC/BET boxscore you would see a pretty dominating performance by the Scots.  3 Scots in double figures rebounding with Conboy leading the way with 25 and 15 (I predicted 22 and 12, but close).  Bethel shoots about 4-20 from 3 in the second half and had no inside presence what-so-ever.  Whenever they did enter it into the post, which was rare the player would immediately look opposite for the man to see if he had an open 3 on the wing.  Scots hold Perry and Bjorklund under 10 apiece, with Fredrickson being the high scorer with 10 (at least I think) on about 3-15 shooting.  Not much was falling last night but the Scots were much more physical than Bethel grabbing about 20-25 o-boards.  We'll see if this continues against St. Thomas.

I have to come to the aid of Bethel a little bit here.  Bethel played about as bad as they possibly could last night.  I think it will be a different story when BU plays Mac at home.  Mac is a hard gym to shoot in and as we all know, Bethel needs to shoot the ball well to put up points this year.  One arm...how did you think the refs were?  Definately not the reason Bethel lost, Im not saying that but I thought it was pretty one sided.  BU got beat up pretty bad on the boards it looked like.  Cook is going to have to see more minutes if they want to have a chance at more rebounds and points on the inside.  Conboy played well getting 25.  Personally I do not think he is going to average more than 12-15 this year.  He made a couple three's last night that looked a lot better in the box score than they did coming out of his hands.  Gotta give the kid some credit though...hes going to have to keep puting up 20 a game if they want to have ANY and I mean ANY chance at making the playoffs.  I have to disagree with you one arm, Mac is far from a playoff team.  Im sure you will put those words right back in my mouth at the end of they year if they do make playoffs. ;)

Anybody see how many threes UST made last night? It was something like 9-12, or something ridiculous like that. Plus, it wasn't just one person making them, it was more like four or five guys hit threes. Interesting.

Plus, it's nice to see GAC have four guys in double figures, yet no one over twenty. There was some arguement as to who was the #2 to TeBrake. Like I said before, GAC will be more balanced this year. There's really no need for a set #2, when you have so many other guys who can score. I think last night's scoring for the Gusties went Wittwer with 17, Olson with 16, Sowden with 13, TeBrake with 12 (please don't quote me on any of these). It's a good thing when you're not limited to just one or two guys scoring.

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

Local - You can talk to all the coaches you want to, but it may help to actually read the board too. It's been said about four times now that Westman is out with a stress fracture in his foot.

tjones - I can't help but think Bethel will play better than they did last night, but I'm not so sure it was an abberation either. Your old coaching staff clearly doesn't place much of an emphasis on getting the ball inside. That was fine the last few seasons, but the years of having outstanding perimeter players may be over at BU. How did KRS-One say it? The bridge is over, the bridge is over :)

BS - He would be the younger brother of the former GAC/MSU/GAC great. The 7th might be hard for me to pull off, but I'll pencil it in right now. The middle of the week is kind of hard to do when you have a non-hat selling job. Speaking of which...I'm wearing Westman's old hat to work today :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

willy - You're a little testy?  I apologize for not seeing that information in previous posts.  It happens.

I also agree that Macalester's gym is a tough place for any opponent.  I hate going to watch games there, although I must admit when Ben VT was playing the crowd sure was electric.

Tjones33--
Compared to how MIAC refs usually are, i thought they were okay.  No glaringly outrageous calls.

(Seeing the bald Mauer got me reminiscing on a HUGE blown call he made last year...)

BU really needs to find an inside presence.  Cook is very weak inside and the other guys like to float out and shoot too much.

Nobody will deny Conboy has an unorthodox shot but it goes in and pretty consistently.  I guarantee he average 20 ppg.  We'll see what he does against a Sowden or Ike in the near future--Sat to be exact.

Must say i enjoyed the Two Arm Royal although he couldn't hold a candle to me in my hay day.  The umbrella and poncho were creative but it's too bad the skies cleared up and the rain stopped :).

UST only missed 3s when the shot clock was winding down and were forced to hoist it up...it was pretty crazy

refs were pretty good in the UST CAR game but i must say the asian ref loved to put on a show when he would make a call at the scorers table

Has anyone seen this kid play.  He is an out of control maniac.  I saw him last year get ejected from the Northwestern game and spit on a fan.  Anybody know more about him?  Why is he even playing if he is getting thrown out of games?

92 rebounds in the mac-bethel game! that is some really horrible basketball. mac comes away with 58 of them.

bethel goes an amazing 18-66.  is this a typo? macalester has three players with double digit rebounds! i am glad that i did not attend this game.

Rumor has it the Asian Sensation was a theatre major at National American University.

I've been letting the "Conboy 12-15 ppg" prediction from Jones settle in my head and it just doesn't make sense...

You're saying a kid who averaged 16.5 ppg WITH Splash Jackson is going to regress to 12-15 ppg now that he is "the man" in the offense?

That makes about as much sense as someone self proclaiming to be the MIAC MVP before the season starts only to end up being the leading scorer on the fourth place team in the conference... ;)

I agree last night's MAC team is not a playoff team, but add Liddell and Johnson, after illness and injury, and then they are.

i said it last year...i said it this year...and i will say it again

KYLE FOSTER = NOT GOOD AT BASKETBALL "maybe i should make this my signature"

ill say this one more time too...how do you expect hamline to be any good when they have a kid like him playing as much as he does when he didnt even do much for his average at best high school team

Is Wohler really going 17 guys deep or did a majority play when it became a rout.

OAS:

That was just because of the rout.  I don't think Hamline is going to do much of anything this year because they play to poor in the middle.  Charley Good is a huge body but doesn't know how to use it, and Kyle Foster is just a nut case who will foul out in 2 min. if he could.  They are going to rely to much on the outside shot for their points, and they will fade in the end.

Going to have to disagree because C. Shafer had another consistent 12 point game, but Henrichs didn't play as well as he is capable of.

jjkuenzel- were you at the game? just wondering because i was and in the last two minutes when CC took the lead it seemed to me that no one wanted to shoot the ball. Leiser was forced to take long three's and also forced a driving reverse lay-up when SJU was down only two. SJU was in trouble the second CC took the lead. In my opinion SJU needs Henrichs to step up and make some big plays down the stretch like a two time all miac senior leader should. Granted he had a sub-par game last night but he needs to step up in the absence of Tyler Westman. That is just my two cents.
