IT,

There was nothing wrong with Weaver's play on Wittwer. It was a good, hard foul that was in no way intentional. He just wanted to make sure Wittwer had no chance of making the basket, and Witter I believe ended up missing at least one free throw if I remember correctly.

If you want to talk about lacking class, Carleton led UST by 30+ at Schoenecker two years ago and they were hoisting up 3's with that lead in the second half like it was going out of style. It's one thing to be pumped up about a big road win like Keating was, but it's entirely different to jack up 3's and run up the score when the game is already over.

Sportsguy -- I realize Finn looks like he is 35 and has since his freshman year, but he finished UST hoops 3 seasons ago when I was a sophomore.  I guarded him my freshman and sophomore years and had to play helpside D when I did, which made it a very frustrating 2 years.

Man, this work computer sucks. I log back in to check the reaction to my latest post only to find it never made it up here.

Instead of rehashing my points right now, I'm just going to say this: I'm waiting for a call tonight from a coach named Shawn Sweeney. Am I justified in giving him the nerd chant as he gives me the score and rundown? :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

CMob- aren't you in med school, or something along those lines?  You should be able to handle dry text.   Have you tried Concerta, I've heard it's the new wonder drug.  :)

Alright, here's the Cliff notes version:

Once he's healthy, Keating is going to bring Wonka to his posting knees.  Instead of just looking at the stats sheet that MIACManiac will gleefully wave over his head after another Tommies win,  Wonka promised he'd eat said stat sheet.  ::)

Willy was still suffering from "beat-down- itis" & is slowly starting to mend after  the Gusties spanked UMN-Morris last night.  ;D

Texas is done. They just pounded their top competition by 30+. We might as well just give them the national title, right guy? :)

In an attempt to regurgitate my post from last night...

Let's get a few things straight here about Keating. Drake claims I'm backtracking in my assessment of him. Just to be clear, I'm not. He's been far worse than advertised, despite everyone trying to put a positive spin on his lack of production. However, others clearly are trying to sidestep things. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

*Loco must have watched a UST preseason practice or talked to one of his countless coaching friends, because he said Keating looked "great" on Oct 24. That implies solid health, which he's still apparently lacking, calling either his sources or personal assessment into question.

*funbb said yesterday "Nobody said he was Kobe or anything like that." On Oct 25 funbb did alomst just that when he said Keating would be POY. pacific rim mentioned him as a possible all-american shortly thereafter.

*Just prior to Drake's mentioning Keating's health issues (which went unremarked and unnoticed by most, including me), he said the following:

"No offense to Neal Anderson, but Mike Keating is a stud. He boards, shoots, plays defense, finds the open man, & has a great passion for the game.  He's an Espenson type player, he makes his teammates better."

That's a slap in Espo's face if you ask me. Keating hasn't exactly done any of those things well, especially to the point of last season's MVP. He's been the fourth best player on his team this season whereas Espo was the best player every time he stepped on the court last season, regardless of the opponent.

Don't get upset at me for calling him a role player when he was being hyped as the second coming. That's a clear discrepancy that I'm more than willing to point out.

As for funbb - You've made ridiculous personal attacks on Adam TeBrake on these boards, claiming his teammates don't trust or like him. You've just been caught contradicting yourself about Keating and trying to call me out at the same time. As for my throwing up bricks, go check the GAC recordbook for field goal percentage. Thanks for playing.

Whoa, this board is getting heated, I like it.  I've been to 4 UST games so far this season.  Keating was solid versus Carleton, and I'll admit, he looked out of sync at Mac.  Wonka, I can't figure out how you could use a game like the blowout on Wednesday night to say he's not good.  The tommies obviously had no trouble scoring on Wednesday night.  What makes Keating so good is that he understands what it takes to win..  It's early in the season, and I think you'll see how good he actually is.  Not to mention, AT was virtually shut down Wednesday, and who was guarding him?  Oh yeah, Keating.

I'm not saying he has been playing like an All-star thusfar, I'm just saying, don't question his ability by a game where a team is winning by 30 points, they were obviously doing okay finding the open shooters.

Gawd Willy - I thought I was anal!  I swear, you're a worse loser than me.   I'm gonna be late for xmas party because of this board!!   ::)

You're taking my post out of context, & conveniently for the sake of your argument, failed to include my closing sentence from my Keating post of October.

And what did I say after I made that statement - hunh?

...If he's fully recovered from his injuries look out

That's why I've asked on several different occasions since my October post, how has Keating looked?  I was concerned about his health & what impact it might have on his playing abilites.  Yesterday when I re-posted my original comment about Keating I bolded the sentence so it would stand out for those posters who failed to notice it the first & or 2nd time around.   Your debate with me doesn't fly if you choose to ignore the caveat.

As far as I'm concerned  I'm done with this subject until....

Miacmaniac is waving the stats sheet over his head & Willy has to start eating it.

Thanks Mike, Thanks Santa!

Well, let's let the season play itself out and see where things fall. And yes, I still feel that Keating will be one of the top players. And yes, I share your sentiments regarding Espo...one of the best & I too would rank him higher than Keating.

As for my "ridiculous personal attacks" on AT....I only repeated what had been told me. I did not say that ALL the players felt that way about him, but there are a few. The "book on him" is that he's a fine player when things are going well and his shot is going down, but supposedly he measures the success of his game on scoring otherwise he goes south pretty fast. I mean no personal attacks toward him, and I'm sure he's a fine young man. Some people have just told me he's pretty arrogant but I've never met him so I can't confirm that either.

And how did I "contradict myself" about Keating? I merely stated even if he doesn't have the great numbers, that's not going to matter to him. He just wants to win. Regarding the comparison to yourself....and you must admit I threw some compliments your way, and they were very deserving....when I saw you play (twice), I don't know that I ever saw you "light it up" so to speak. Your hustle was excellent, but I'll have to check out the record books (don't know how/where to do that tho) to find out how wrong I was.  I apologize for provoking your anger, but just thought you had been too hard on Keating and didn't think he deserved that, so I wanted to come to his defense. Again, Willy, I apologize. I admire your loyalty to GAC and always enjoy your "comments & assessments" on this board.   ;)

Happy Holidays, everyone!!! :-*

Willy Wonka

Cmon now guys. This board is dead for days and I try to light it up a little bit and no one wants to argue? Weak, fellas.

tommycorn - I watched the Hamline game as well, which was close throughout. He was a nonfactor in the near upset as well.

Drake - Just because it wasn't in quotes doesn't mean I didn't include it. I said "Just prior to Drake mentioning Keating's health issues" prior to quoting you. That's more than fair. You chose to highlight one section to serve your purpose and so did I.

funbb - I will rip someone's game up and down, but I try to stay away from "He said, she said" attacks on character and/or leadership abilities, especially if you aren't willing to reveal who said it and have no personal interactions to draw from. For the record, I wouldn't reveal who said it now either.

As someone who didn't practice and still played in every game for basically two seasons, this injury excuse isn't sitting too well with me - just in case anyone couldn't tell :)

If you're playing, play.

Tough stretch of games for the boys from SJU last night, tonight, and on their Hawaii trip. 4 D-2 teams may be a different team after it though. Concordia-St Paul just beat the Johnnies in every aspect of the game last nigth and SCSU may do the same tonight.

let's try to keep things focused on the basketball and not the character attacks and commentary scrutinization...jeez, this is no longer a friendly place.

concordia beats a much improved ole squad by 14 in moorhead tonight.

linz with 19, dixon with 16, eckhoff with 14.  looks like the cobbers are starting to get more comfortable. these three players combine for almost 20 more free throws tonight bringing their conference season total up to...84 through 4 games. which means just these three players have now vaulted ahead of every single team in the miac except GAC.  they've shot over 20 more freethrows than UST, thus far!

butala is held to 4-13 fg, 0-5 3pts with 8 pts in 30 minutes.
A man without a mustache...is not this particular man.
