Actually, funballer, if Willy did do that, then I would say his actions were out of line.

And about my comment on the enforcement, I was involved in a big game against a heated rival up north in high school. I being the starting center (ruggedly dashing and handsome), playing against a guy whose sole purpose was to hurt me. During the game, I went up for a putback, made the shot, was fouled, and gave a fist pump and a yell (YEAH!) in the heat of the moment. The next time down the court, I attempted to intercept a pass (no small matter for a plodding big man as myself) and was undercut by my opponent, which was no laughing matter, considering I had none of my left ACL left in my knee since the beginning of the season. The guy then said, "Try that @#$% again, and see what happens." Apparently, I had annoyed him, and then made sure to keep myself in check, hopefully never having to undergo that experience again.

I also seem to remember that the ugly incident involving the GAC crowd and UWSP was urged on by a Pointer who walked up with the gameball after the buzzer sounded and spiked the ball on the three crowns, thereby igniting the crowd, and could have caused some major problems. Not that the GAC crowd was blameless either.

I just think that things like that don't belong. It's my opinion. I'll stop there, so we can talk about other things.  Sorry if it seems like we've been involved in a "pissing contest."

Oh yeah, and I actually had a great weekend, for reasons I won't explain to people on the board. ;)

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

Keith's shot is a little unorthodox. It looks slow but it actually is probably a quicker shot than mine. His shooting pocket is so high, unlike a normal shot where the pocket goes as low as the waist. He also makes a lot of passes from over his head and can get his defender confused wether he is making a pass fake, a pass, or taking a shot. He also does not have that much knee bend. I never understood it when I would guard him in practice because I never new if he was going to shoot. He would pass fake low and then shoot as soon as my hands would go down and I wouldnt even back up.

Story from the St. Cloud Times this morning. Paul Henrichs was named MVP of the SCSU Holiday Tourney. Craig Schafer also made the All-Tourney Team.

Hey Sofa King,

Can we get a report on Adam Morrison?

In a somewhat serious attempt at keeping the board alive during the next couple of weeks, here are a few items.

After last week's loss to the Tommies, the Gusties dropped from 11th to completely out of the top 25 in this week's D3 poll.  UST doesn't get any love either and doesn't crack the top 25 with their convincing road win at St. Peter.  However, they are the top two teams in the "Others Receiving Votes" category with UST collecting 66 & GAC 64 votes.

I recall reading a comment by Pat C. earlier where he stated that last year the Tommies were highly regarded, & basically look at what happened to them during January & February.  I also find it interesting that UW-Stout who barely beat UST in OT at the Wooster tournament, & then lost by only 8 points to 3rd ranked Wooster is currently ranked 12th in the most recent poll.  Here's also an interesting comment I came across in the Top 25 message board.

I'd hate to pass judgment on the basis of an early-season tournament played far from home, but I watched UW-Stout closely in their two games at Wooster and they're not remotely as good as Stevens Point was last year.  The only reason they beat St. Thomas (by 1 in OT) is because of poor coaching decisions by the Tommies' coach.  The game with Wooster was never really in doubt.  Stout's a very athletic team, and you can see they have talent; but if they're the best in the WIAC this season, then the WIAC is down.

Hmmm, that's interesting.

After XMAS, I want to try to get to UW-Stout & see some of the WIAC teams play. UW-Whitewater & Oshkosh were both ranked at various times, & Oshkosh started out the season as #2 nationally.  At Stout's Xmas tourney, 13th ranked Augustana of the CCIW is coming up to play. If I get really ambitious, the middle of January I might try to get to Kenosha, WI to watch Carthage take on #1 ranked Illinois Wesleyan.  I'm a basketball fan, but that's a Big If at this time though.

I'm a little confused by that as well, Drake. Personally, I didn't think GAC deserved to be that high - as I alluded to when I asked when the last time an undefeated team ranked 11th was an underdog to an unranked team at home - but the voters can't always look at individual conferences that closely. As an AP voter, I can vouch for that.

The Gusties signature win thus far is a close road win over a 1-4 BV squad, but GAC has earned the respect of the voters around the nation over the past five years. Right or wrong, that's the nature of voting. Though they were proved wrong in a big way last week, one game hopefully won't fully erase that feeling.

By the same token, UST hasn't been a true threat since Buri left. They had tantalizing potential last season, but didn't always perform up to par. Until GAC, they were the same way this season. Posters and former players were questioning coaching after the opener and they played less than inspired ball against Mac and Hamline, though they got the wins. If they continue to win, regardless of the score, they should now move steadily up the rankings.

columbo - Raise away. You can bet your balls I will be if GAC happens to pull it out in the rematch :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Former Tommie (part time) player, looking forward to trumpeting the UST conquests the rest of the season with the Russian Mig. Glad to see they are managing to stay afloat this year following the crippling departures of myself and AK47 ;D.

Just watched the first half of Westie blowing the Red Wing/Hasting boys game. I told him who the good team was, but he still had the RW coach staring him down by his third call. Good times :)

bumkneez - Welcome aboard and good to have you. I'm sure we'll squabble sooner or later, so I wanted to get that out of the way now :)

Yeah, basically, the voters were let down by St. Thomas last year and this year took more of a wait-and-see attitude. Now St. Thomas will climb.

Concordia evened up their record last night with a 64-63 win over UM-Morris.  The Cobbers survived despite turning the ball over 29 times.  Mr. Eckhoff lead the way with 15 points.

I was mildly suprised by that score. UMM is 2-6. I figured that CC would have a little easier time with them. Granted Cord has played 3 games in 4 days.

The ol' spin meister Mr. Cella actually wrote it up by saying it was the Cobbs 4th game in 6 days.  Which all in all, I would say is a legit excuse, yet nonetheless, still an excuse.  :-*

Their outside shooting still concerns me,  Concordia shot 18.2% (2-of-11) from behind the arc, their lowest total of the season and second lowest in the last three years.

But to their credit they've been pounding the ball inside & hauling in more than their fair share of rebounds.  The Cobbers continued to shine around the basket. Concordia outrebounded the Cougars 40-22 and held a decisive 38-25 advantage in points scored in the "paint".

Sumander - any relation to Zoolander? (Weak joke.)  Serious question though - are you close to  the Cobber program or school at all?  The reason I ask is I would like to know when the new Cobb website will be completed?  I've been looking at the weak "site under construction" sign for the past 4 months or so.

Although I like the looks of the new site, the old site was a veritable warehouse of athletic information for not only the Cobbs, but the entire conference as well.

Well for those teams that are done for the holidays - good luck during finals,  rest up, & go take some extra shots in the gym!

Drake, I am actually closer to the SJU program. Just happen to live closer to Moorhead than Collegeville so I keep up on the Cobbers through the F-M media.
