I don't know how many people will be at the game.  Not many students take J-Term Classes so a lot of the student body is home, and I wouldn't exactly consider many of the students die hard fans to make the 15 minute drive from surburbia to see the game.  But who knows, we'll see I guess.

I'll be at Carleton/Gustavus tonight for work purposes and I'll have a brief recap when I return. Tommies take down Augsburg easily, won't be much of a game.

Hopefully alot of people make it to the SJU vs. UST game i expect a good one.

Miacmaniac: I doubt the Johnnies will pollute the air this year. It will be a good measuring stick for the Johnnies. It may suprise alot of people in the end........

Localcoach--

In response to your prediction...
QuoteConcordia @ Macalester - The Cobbers find a way to win their first game without Eckhoff, who plays the role of emotional leader on the sidelines.

I think you meant, Coach Siverson's emptions cost his team the game by getting ejected up four with 1:30 to play...Eckhoff is nowhere to be found.

Scots win a good one 61-60...it was pretty ugly though.  Bosman is saving the Scots thus far.  Played a great game.

Carleton takes down the Gusties tonight 80-72 in Northfield. After seeing Gustavus twice now, I'll say this. Let's not put them on a pedestal just because of who they are and their recent history. They were outplayed tonight. Tebrake was mediocre at best with 12 points, Drake did a nice job taking him out of the game mentally. Andrew Olson tried to put the team on his back with a tremendous second half, ended up with 23. Knights led almost the entire first half, but trailed 30-29. Carleton played brilliant on offense most of the night, scoring 51 in the second half on 67 percent shooting. Forkrud went for 24 before fouling out. The Knights have a ton of depth with him, Johnson, Drake, Phillips etc. Johnson goes for a career-high 20 tonight. At his rate, he could be MVP in 2-3 years. I've never seen the Gusties give up so many easy looks as they did tonight. It was a combination of poor defense and solid Carleton halfcourt offense. Carleton had a second-half lead of 7-12 for most of it. Plain and simple- Carleton played well, Gustavus didn't. Forkrud dominated Stien, Sowden and Wippler inside. The numbers don't indicate it, but it seemed like Gustavus couldn't hit the ocean if they were standing on the beach. If Tebrake doesn't get his head straight and step up, it could be a long winter for the fans in St. Peter.

Drake give the Auggies their full credit, 62-59. :)

Where did all of Ike's teammates go?  37 pts and 16 rebounds.  Nine other teammates split 22 points.

OAS,  my bad.   I'm probably still in a state of shock.  I got a call from the game & nearly dropped the phone when I heard the score.   :o  ;)

As I posted earlier this week, I am concerned about the Tommies' play, but I thought their potential pitfall would be the Johnnies & not arggh,  the Auggies.  ??? ::)

The only good news about this double upset is that I won't have to put up with Willy gloating for the next couple of days.  ;)

Who was at the AUG VS UST game?

UST outrebounded Aug 41-28 (18-9 o-rb)

Ike had 5 TO out of 10 team TO but I think his 37 pts (16-19) 16 Rb has more positives than negatives

Is it Schnettler?  1-9 from down town is the reason?

Alex Weaver fouling out??

Refs?  Doesn't look like Aug got 4X FT and the ball like Mac did tonight.

Or is it simply becfause just students didn't show up to show their support (or did they)?

3M, I don't have any answers, but I'll see what I can find out tomorrow.

In addition to your questions, where was Zeph Jones for Augsburg?  He's not a superstar, but he's a solid forward for the Auggies.  I then looked around & noticed he hasn't played the last two games for the Auggies.  Tonight against UST & last Friday in their loss against Northwestern.  This makes the win by the Dawgs even more puzzling.

Sweeney 1 assist, 2-10 shooting
Keating with 5 Assists - 3 points

I have no idea, but it looks like a big collective team loss to me.

UST/AUG -
I was at the game and let me tell you... it was ugly!  The only Tommie who showed up to play was Ike, and I think he made all but 2 of the UST baskets in the second half.  Schnettler and Sweeney were broke while Shimek didn't really put up any shots.  Keto was a hairy little pistol running all over the place and keeping control in AUGs favor.  I hope the AUG coach didn't read my post about Graf and decide to start him based on it, because he started and he killed the Tommies in the end.  Schnettler and Sweeney had two huge threes toward the end to make it a ball game, but AUG definately outplayed UST and deserved the win.  As far as the fans go.. there were quite a few UST backers, however, the 3 AUG fans in front of me outcheered all of the UST fans.

CAR/GAC -
Nice win for CAR.  Not surprising to see Big Dan Forkrud put up 24, however it is surprising to see Big Dan Forkrud only grab 2 boards!  I think one of the Gusties is going to need to step up and take charge if they want to right their ship, right now they are playing with 5 role players.  Overall, it is shaping up for a nice little MIAC race and should get interesting over the next month.

Didn't get a chance to see the game tonight, but I did see the Tommies play over the holidays.  They have lost something, their play has been I think the only word to describe it is stale.  It looks to me as if they are just going through the motions.  The game against GAC everyone had a bounce to their step, like they were excited to be out there playing, and that's not what I saw a week ago.

Second, how does Shimek go from being All-Conference to a non-offensive factor?  I think the Tommies need to get him the ball, and he needs to use his body to get to the line.  I don't have the statistics, but I would be willing to bet that the Tommies are near the bottom in the MIAC in terms of foul attempts per game.  Ike does not draw fouls, Schnettler only shoots threes, I don't know Keatings game.  They are like the Timberwolves, jump shooting team.  Get some toughness in there.  Maybe Fritze could trade for Artest?
