Seriously. Why do people take my Karma away because i express my own opinion. I think Shimek is a joke. He tags along Rosefelt and Keating and gets dish passes for layups from Sweeney's drives. He is a waste of a floor player. There have to be a couple people on UST's bench that could play in front of him. He plays because he is a senior not because he is all conference. That is my opinion and if you don't like it i dont care.

You sure are making a big deal out of something you don't care about :)

Shimek is in an interesting position right now. Last year I was on his bandwagon, calling him either their best or most consistent player (I forget which). This year, I'm off with both feet.

While I doubt his game has regressed, Ike is getting all the touches in the post and Joey's forced to do all the little things. Whether he's doing them well is debatable and something only film could show. As the only "true" D3 player in UST's starting group, it must be frustrating to see people transfer in all around him to "steal" his glory. However, there's no way a post player fifth on his team in scoring and not in the top 15 in the league in rebounding deserves a spot on the all-conference team.

The way I see it, Ike is a shoo-in for the MVP unless he suddenly puts together a string of UW-LAX performances together. Schnettler, assuming his stroke isn't gone for good, should also make the squad. Assuming they win the conference, I could see them getting a third and my choice would be for Sweeney. If you had told me I would say that two years ago, I might have slapped you, but, besides Ike, he's their most indespensible player. Keating could possibly slide in there is he can play up to expectations on a consistent basis and the team runs the table, but I see very little hope for Shimek making the team.

Out of curiosity, when was the last time one team got 3/4 players on the All-MIAC team? I doubt any team has ever gotten all five, as MM seems to be suggesting should happen this year.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I can't believe there is talk right now about Shimek being all-conference.  I had mentioned in earlier about him being all-conference, what I meant by that is that last season he was. (right?)  I think he should be more of a factor in their game.  As I said, I think our team is too soft, settling for jump shots, not getting to the line, I think Shimek getting more into offensive sets would bring that toughness.  But from this point in the season, there is no way he could be looked at for all-conference.

Shimick is a perfect player for that team. He is a role player and thats it. Yes there are probably more talented players on the bench but there is not enough basketballs to go around for the players that are on the court. By getting "dish passes" from Sweeney, and playing behind Ike and Keating, it sounds like he is playing about the perfect role.

For being a "MIACWATCHMAN" you dont seem to watch very closely.

Willy...I know that 2004 all-conference team had 3 Royals on it: Gilbert, Jones, and Jacobs.  But the last time there were four is beyond my limited scope of knowledge.

I was pointing out that Shimek isn't a All-Conference player. He may have been last year but this year he isn't.  I have only seen one UST game so i guess if that makes me less of a poster then i guess nobody will have to listen to me. Thank you for pointing that out Jdowney.

There are always a few teams that send 3 all-MIAC players every year.

Last year was GAC (Espenson, Tebrake, and Snowden) and UST(Ike, Shimek, Anderson), in addition to the three from BET that  BChoops mentioned with 3 MIACs last year.

Year before that was GAC, BET, and MAC.  I also realized that BET and GAC are more consistenly sending 3 guys than other teams (according to the miac site).

But there hasn't been a year where a team had 4 All-conference. Unless you count the all defensive team as one one them.

And I think as Willy predicted with the way things are going it'll be Sweeney, Schnettler, and Ike from UST this year .  I don't thinks there's a room for the 4th one from that squad.

The tougher question would be when was the last time at least one team did not have 3 first team All-MIAC selections.

2004-05, GAC, CAR & UST each had 3;
2003-04, GAC, Mac & Bethel each had 3
2002-03- CAR had 3
2001-02- GAC, Beth & Mac each had 3
2000-01- UST & SJU each had 3
199-200- UST had 3
1989-99- GAC had 3
1997-98- GAC had 3

MIAC site doesn't list all-conference going back further but I did find the 1996-97 All-MIAC team in an old program I still had stashed away from some inexplicable reason. That year,  CAR had 3 on the all-conference team.

Four from one team would be extremely unlikely. About the only scenario I could see that happening is someone going 20-0 and no one else finishing better than 15-5 and even then I would be hard pressed to imagine the coaches voting more than 3 from one team.

Looking back at some of those squads brings back a ton of memories.

12-10 Johnnies with 10 minutes to go in first half in Winona. Very sluggish and slow start for both teams.

29-23 Johnnies at the Half. Little run by the Johnnies at the end gets them some breathing room at the half. A little bit of foul trouble for the Johnnies. 4 or 5 offensive fouls by the cardinals. Very aggresive inside for the Cards early.

Hamline over who? Last time I checked, Bethel was at Gus Young today, unless the Gusties are facing the dreaded MIAC-bottomfeeder all-star team today :)
