Drake - I'm going to assume you meant Ill Philly (12.7, 5.3 and 2.2 and having a huge second half) instead of Steiner (5.4, 5.4 and a good game against Ike) from GAC.

I haven't seen every team play, but the following seem like sketchy picks to me: SMU's Brensley Haywood (12.2, 2.9 and 2.6) and STO's Mark Bergstrom (12.9, 3.4 and 1.4 - a straight gunner who doesn't even start on a bad Ole team).

I'd rather have either of the Hamline frosh on the team, though not both. The winner of the GAC/SJU game could determine if either gets a third.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

A new MIAC, D3Hoops' posters category I've created.

All Excitement Team (Players that can make you stand up from your seat)

SMU- Heywood (him & DeRock have inside out dribbles that are awesome)
HAM- DeRock (He's made more acrobatic shots than anyone I seen this year!)

GAC – TeBrake (when his confidence is high- he's nearly unstoppable. Left hand, right hand, it don't matter  ;) )
UST – Rosefelt (Dr. Dunk)
BET – Meadowcroft (when motivated, he puts on a stunning array of inside out moves)

Honorable Mention:

SMU- Warren Sapp Smith (what he does with his body is amazing)
UST- Schnettler (another inside out, rocker move, pullback TREY!!!)
CARL - Fork (reminds me of the big guy from the old Miller beer commercial, - "I can hoop a little, post up, step out, take the three."
CARL - Johnson (Coach Kalland has done a good job keeping him under wraps.  He can take trash talking to another level -- & back it up)

Feel free to add your own

Willy - I've liked Sowden's game alot from high school days & at GAC. But the two times I've seen him this year, he's come up short - UST & MAC.  I'll take your word for it.  One inch taller I think he could be a stud.

Heywood is nasty.  At least the two times I've seen him play.  SMU doesn't make a run this year without him.  He won the 1st Auggie game in MPLS, nearly singlehandedly beat Bethel a couple of weeks ago in Arden Hills, & I guess he was making Derock etal pay when the Pipers were in Winona.

I'm not sold on Bergstrom either, which is why I added the caveat.

Drake - I agree with you. He did take it to Ike in the first meeting though, scoring 12 of the Gusties 18 first half points before sitting out most of the second in the blowout.

Since Olson's gone out, Ill Philly has averaged 18.2 point, 7.8 boards and 2.0 assists per game. Much like he did as a freshman, he's really picked up his play to end the season. I think it's enough to get him a spot, as the others who started hot have since cooled (Thrasher comes to mind). He's also avoided silly fouls that have plagued him his whole career, allowing him to stay on the court longer.

Drake-  Thats a bold move leaving C. Schafer off the team. We've talked about him all year as being the most consistent Johnnie. I could see how it would be a tough decision between Henrichs, Westman and Schafer but do you think CON won't get a sympathy player in and the J's maybe get three players?

Watch - My list was strictly off the top of my head without referring to any individual stats.  If I would have referenced stats, I probably would have added Phil Sowden from GAC & you're right, it would be real tough to keep Schafer from winning any conference honors.

Regardless of whether the Cobbs get a sympathy selection for Jason Miller or not, I personally think it's going to be real tough for the Gusties & or Johnnies to get a third player on the ALL-MIAC team.  Heinrichs making All MIAC is almost a done deal.  So if that holds true, which do you leave out – a talented, yet inconsistent Westman, or the hardest working man in a Johnnies uniform - C. "Big Country" Schafer?

The season finale this Saturday between the Gusties & Johnnies could go a long way to settling the final pecking order & determine the number of individual post season awards.

New Top 25 has Carleton with 10 votes and St Thomas with 5, leaving them at what would be 33rd and 35th respectively.  Although most seem to agree that the conference is down this year, does this recognition increase the chances of getting a second team in the NCAA?

piperinsider

Strictly off the top of my head...and going with 16 players

UST: Schnettler, Sweeney, Rosefelt (could make case for Shimek, not Keating)
CAR: Johnson, Forkrud, Phillps (Drake deserves to be there)
SJU: C. Schaefer, Heinrichs (Westman, Ohme and Lieser all would be honorable mentions)
GAC: Sowden, TeBrake (Wittwer, next two years)
HAM: Foster
BET: Meadowcraft (Frederickson could be second one)
MAC- Conboy, Bosman
SMU- Batterman (although Smith and Haywood just as deserving)
CON- Miller
AUG, STO- none

There isn't much parity between 10-16 and 17-25. There isn't a ton of players that are locks this year. Could go anyway.

Drake--

I think you'd have to add Weaver to your All Excitement Team.  While he does little else, he does have the ability to elevate like no one else in the league.  Had he hammered home the dunk he tried against MAC it may have been the sickest dunk I ever witnessed live.

Some of your other picks deserve the ol' double forearm shiver to the head as received by Willy Wonka--displayed on the oAs image page at the bottom.  Also, those of you with of age sisters or daughters, check out Willy toting his d3singles.com website.

Watchmen--Yes, the Johnnies put together a nice game.  I think Schaefer and Lieser were both strong candidates and recipients of the award.  I wanted to get a former Johnnie, Steve Strom, on there as he stuffed the stat sheet too but in the end he lost out.

Flip the Red Bird

After watching the way Smith handed to Ike this weekend, he scored everytime Ike was gaurding him, I would say he deserves some looks at the all-conference team.  SMU will only get one so Haywood should get it from SMU.

Can Carleton make it to the finals and if so does anyone think they can beat Thomas?  I think Carleton wins it.

Drake Palmer

Flip - Smith was making Foster from Hamline look silly too.  He just needs to play at that level on a consistent basis.  Then he could be on the AET as well as the All MIAC team.

Which picks of mine are you talking about  - the conference picks or the AET awards?  The DPAET awards are solid, real solid.  Come to think of it, my MIAC picks are on target too.  8)

Weaver's got upps, but again he needs to do "it" on a consistent basis.  Strom from Bethel has major hops as well.  I can say that at least I 've seen him successfully throw it down in a game.  Must be sumthing in the water in the northeastern suburbs of Mounds View & New Brighton.  ;)

oAs, I agree with the Weaver mention. He lost the ball on a dunk attempt against the J's that had he completed would have brought the house down. It was off the dribble, and he went over C Schafer and Henrichs both. Ball went off the back iron though.

Drake,

Okay I concur.  I basically just wanted people to go to oas.com and see Willy gettin smacked.

My only request is that Splash Jackson be the award presenter as he was the most exciting thing to come through the MIAC in a while.

oAs - You better believe I ain't on no d3singles.com. If I am, I'm blaming you and/or Frank Rickard.

I refuse to check to see if that's a real site.
