Latest Update for Postseason Awards

Will be interesting to see how they match up with the coaches awards.

Neal Anderson Beyong the Glory.  Hilarious.  I'm not going to link to it but Google the phrase if you're interested.

How many ballots have you received now?

Wonka's take on the awards: rumor has it 14 of Keating's 19 points came from one ballot (*cough* MM *cough*), if Zach Johnson doesn't win the mythical ROY this whole thing is a joke and Ike makes my All Blocked Shots team but not All Defensive team.

Also, can I launch an official protest on Fredrickson leading Wittwer for the 6th man? Let's compare stats.

13.7 points (42% shooting), 1.9 RPG, 1.3 APG, 8 steals, 2 blocks
11.7 (69% shooting), 3.7 RPG, 2.2 APG, 32 steals, 21 blocks and many sick dunks.

Are you kidding me people?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

TH4L - Check your email. You got shafted badly on the job here - the girl who beat you out is a joke - but I can prolly put in a good word if that's something you might want.

12 ballots in, 4 more to enter in the morning.

Decided to not enter the literally 50 ballots I received pimping Thrasher for All Conference 15 and nothing else.  I think there is some beverage consumption going on at HAM.

Lastly, I was at the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner tonight and I went to registration to pick up my nametag.  I was in the J-L clump but I looked to my left and who do I see??  Steve Fritz holding it down for D-F, tucked behind the registration table.  After seeing the  man command the sideline of a basketball court, it was pretty comical to see him tucked behind the registration table.  His wife works for the Chamber, way to help her out Steve!!

WW-

You bring up a good point about Wittwer over Freddy but it must be taken into account that Fredrickson's emergence in the second half of the season besides the consistent play of Meadowcroft is a HUGE reason that BU is even in the playoffs....while Chuck is big night in and night out, it Fredrickson's play that largely determines the outcome for BU.  I agree with your assessment on Witt, solid all around player and also very deserving.

Are you kidding people?

Mike Trewick has votes for coach of the year, come on.  We didn't even make the playoffs. :-\  He has tons of talent, their young, but not as young as Hamline.  2wins (Auggie & Concordia) 7 loses the second time around in the conference is not good coaching.  This was by far the toughest year in a long time at SMU.  The team just didn't gel over the year, but got worse.  We were better in Dec. than Feb. to me that doesn't seem like very good coaching.  Look at Bethel, that is coaching.  I do believe you are supposed to improve throughout the year.

From what I hear Trewick doesn't do anything around here and has no plan, and does it ever show if you watch a lot of SMU games.  Maybe those votes were for Nigel Jenkins, the assistant coach here who does all the work.  All you SJU fans, did he ever do anything while he was there?

I think Trewick just got Flipped the Red Bird.

They definitely hit the skids in the second go round after the 5-2 start.  Will be interesting to see how the program continues...I've never understood that pipeline from the Chicago area.  Similar to St. Olaf and the Florida football pipeline.

OAS - As I have said in the past, I believe that most of the players on Saint Mary's who hail from Chicago were recruited by the previous head coach, Mark Lovelace.

Local,

There are nine kids from IL on the SMU team.  Five of them are Fr. and So.  Seeing as this is Trewick's second season, I'm guessing he still has his feelers out down there.

and...

As I have said in the past, post your picks on the pick'em page :).

Nope. That's why we sold him to you.

What was Trewick supposed to do at SJU?? WIn games...no he was an assistant coach. All he was supposed to do was scout opposing teams games and help at practice!!  The guy wasn't the head coach Flip......did you know that? ;)

WW - I'll take up your 6th man argument.

Straight stats outside of points makes an interesting argument for Wittwer.  He does get a couple more rebounds and steals than Fredrickson.   And his FG% is truly remarkable.

Does Wittwer on a consistent game by game basis have the kind of impact on the outcome that Fredrickson has?

MF has had 8 games of scoring 18 or more, he has hit 57 3s on the season and every time he checks into the game he automatically gets the opponent's best perimeter defender on him.  Wittwer has a great FG% but his shots often come from Sowden/TeBrake creating and leaving TW open for shots that regularly knocks down.

MF has the ability to create his own shot, knock down contested 3s and get to the line where he is shooting 90%.   Wittwer may have similar ability but he does not choose to use it/show it on a regular basis.

I am a fan of Wittwer and I thought GAC would challenge for the league title if he would have stepped up to take more responsibility on that team.  But he does not impact a game like Fredrickson and deserves 7th man of the year award.

SUMMIT!!!!!

The Chicago pipeline to SMU goes back a long, long time. It has NOTHING to do with Lovelace, Loco. It was there long before Lovelace, before Biebel (who is still active in SMU Athletics). They both benfitted from it, as did their predecessors. They have always had 6+ kids from Chicago area for at least 30 years.

There is a very simple, logiccal explanation of that, which also helps explain why they consistently have Cretin-DH kids, too.  (non-Catholics may not figure it out :) )

BG and BB - I've not seen Bethel play this year, so this is a tough argument for me to make. You know I'm going to try though :)

The stats seem to suggest Freddy is a talented offensive player. As a senior who's second on the team in scoring, I don't think it's taking too difficult to figure out why he isn't starting or playing more (20 per) -- he's a completely one dimensional player. All he wants (can?) to do is score.

Wittwer, along with ATizzle, have been the Gusties most consistent players this season. He's an asset on the floor whether he's scoring or not, which I don't think can be said for Freddy. Since he's been inserted into the starting lineup, the Gusties have gone 5-1, have outscored their opponents by 18 per and outboarded them by nearly 11 per (about a 14 rebound difference).

Let's hope the coaches get it right.

Stats may not suggest Freddie is a defensive stopper, but when Smock got hot in the 2nd half on Wednesday MF was the one asked to guard him and Smock had a difficult time getting open looks and knocking them down for the remainder of the game.

And I would think that finishing a game would indicate his defensive value to a team more than starting.

In the 2nd BU/GAC game Sowden/TeBrake were the differnece makers and Wittwer was the recipient of their dominance.  Fredrickson has 16 2nd half points to help get BU back into the game after a 16 point half time deficit.

My entire argument is much more of a vote FOR Fredrockson than it is AGAINST Wittwer.  TW is very good, and I like his game.  If I recall correctly as a high school kid his 2 college choices were GAC followed by BU, I would have been happy to see him in a BU uniform.  Someone else could probably confirm that, but that's what I recall.
