Touchdown Tommy

So I was reading the feature story on Mac football.  Laughed out loud at the line that included the players watched a "highlight video" from past Mac football...
Chasing MILFs since '82...

In deed the highlight film was quite impressive, here are some of the greater moments of the 5 minute reel:

The past 17 Academic All American banquets

Who can forget the 3 Touchdown performance against Grinnell in Grinnell's only win of the year?

Also, the crushing 7 point defeat of the mighty Knox Prairie Fire in 2004.. you know Knox won a game that year!

Not to mention the 2003 5 point beating MAC's FB squad laid on Lawrence... the college, not the Chess club president.

MAC's last win over a MIAC opponent beating Carleton in 2002... strangely enough, no footage of Carleton's 45-13 grudge match victory the following year.

There was also a lot of great footage of the fan at the games.

Capped off by some grainy footage of MAC's 2 MIAC Championships in 1925 and 1947 (2 years before Gagliardi graduated from Colorado College).

That was the worst second half of basketball the J's have played since UST at UST in Jan.

DeRock played like a senior tonight. HAM deserved to win that game tonight. Westman missed the same shot he hit vs. UST to tie. Tough loss for SJU.

QuotePipers just aren't meant to do well at SJU, or in sports in general.

Just not meant to be.  You're right. Only the Johnnies do well in sports.  In fact most matchups with the Johnnies shouldn't even be played but rather just hand the victory to the Johnnies...

For someone who gets extremely defensive about people bringing up his plethora of past failed picks, you sure are quick to do the same.

How's the view from your glass house? Good to see you spent the extra money to install openings from which you can launch stones.

Total hours driven: 3+
Admission: $3 dollars, despite flashing MIAC Pass and Media Pass and telling the 65+ year-old that I wanted to talk to the AD.
Diet Coke: $1.50
Telling Hamline's AD Dan O'Brian that it would be SJU/UST in the final to begin the second half and be way off 20 minutes later: priceless

This board sure gets quiet when the Johnnies lose. Oh wait, that was the gym.

It was sure entertaining to watch. The key for each team was getting touches in the paint. SJu got the easy look s in the first half. Whether it was Schafer or Ohme, who killed DeRock on cuts, the Johnnie shots were uncontested and overall, higher percentage.

In the second half, Wohler and Co. told the team to get more touches to Good/Foster as well as get some cuts from guards Babcock and DeRock. It ended up being layups and open shots from the outside.

Hard to pick the player of the game for Pipers. DeRock was an animal, 26 pts, 11-18 and really did a nice job with the tempo in the second-half.

Tony Thrasher played his best game in a while, scoring 14, 12 in the second-half I believe, including some big threes. The unsung hero is Babcock. Scored only seven, but played the best 22 minutes he has played all season. Around the ball on defense and helped push the ball upcourt with Weiner struggling and on the bench. Babcock shut down Lieser (7)

Still miffed as to why the Johnnies stopped going inside to Schaefer  with Foster and Good each with 3 fouls at half. Westman struggled, scoring only 10. Heinrichs played very well but was absent the last few minutes, which hurt. Looked like he came off twice with a little limp.

52-33. Second-half score. Wow. How about a few upsets and USt and CAR and we'll play the championship at GAC for the third straight year.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Driving back from St Peter tonight, armed with the knowledge of SJU's choke (sorry Big Red Faithful, there is no sugar coating it), I rewrote the lyrics to "The Johnnie Fight Song":

"Choke you Johnnies/Choke you Johnnies/Lay and egg and choke for ole St John's"   etc etc

I'm sure you can imagine what replaced the "rah rah rah rah ooh rah" part 8)

On a more serious note....GAC looked good, not great. BU couldnt hit anything after the first 5 mins....20% from the field in the second half? GAC's stats people were being generous hosts, I'd say.

SJU loses a 16-point halftime lead to fall at home to HAMLINE? Thats gotta rival TDT's amazing inability to close the deal after last call for worst effort of the season. I can't wait for the Smith boo-birds to reappear!

Three nevers to follow at all costs:

1. Never get involved in a land war in Asia!
2. Never bet against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
3. Never bet against Hanson in the playoffs, especially against his favorite whipping boys of Bethel!
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

5 people ....what is this a MAC game we are talking about. I think UST draws more than that. Does anybody know which MIAC schools other than SJU allow student to enter games for free?? Is it the whole MIAC or just certain schools?

carleton is free admission...not sure about the rest of the schools

Hey, OAS has been man enough to suck it up and pay his debts after losing bets in a far more public manner than I can recall anyone else doing in all of Posting Up. Or have any of you guys who are chirping about his predictions or poking fun at Macalester ever donned a sheep suit and worn it to a game, or offered to make good on a school t-shirt wager, after losing bets?

Love him or hate him, OAS is one guy who does not live in a glass house.

GAC was only "good" tonight, MM? If shooting 64%, holding the opponent to 25% and outboarding the opponent by 18 is good, I'd hate to see your definition of great.

Or does Keating have to be involved for it to be "great" in your eyes?  ::)

MM- Johnnies did choke pretty bad tonight. I am sorry to have watched them as they blew the lead.

At the end they had the ball in the hands of their best shooter, in my mind, Westman and he hit nothing but air. DeRock was amazing and unstoppable. The J's didn't deserve to win this game after their second half performance in my mind.

You obviously have never read the football board. OAS makes ridiculous picks all the time and brags like hell the very few times they actually go right.
He also ignores all of his picks that go wrong. I've offered to put bets on them, but even he knows how ridiculous his picks are.

He lives in a glass house, he's so hypocritical, he could be a Bethel football player willing to punch a teammate in the face for Jesus.
