yep...a good one but gac just couldn't put together all the pieces of a comeback...

Maffia escapes a late GAC surge 55-48. Great game in the second half. Big Dan puts up a huge game. Should be a great one on Saturday night.

u gotta convert at least one of those four missed opportunities to take pressure off the d...but kudos to carleton for not losing their heads in that situation & playin hard nosed defense. best of luck to them against the tommies on saturday!

MVP chants were filling West Gym everytime Forkrud had the ball.

Knights win despite not scoring a field goal in the last 8 minutes with Zorro and Phillips not having their best performances.

UST mauled HAM....Keating had a hell of a game, hitting his first 4 3pt attempts, dishing some nice assists and doing a greet job on defending Foster (held him scoreless first half). Schnettler became the first MIAC player to hit 100 3s in a season. The kid isn't just a three-point shooter-- he played outstanding ball, numerous drives, ended the night with 29 ...Sweeney with some beyond ridiculous passes-- including a behind-the-back on a fast break. Rosefelt with 4 blocks, and dominated the boards-- he only had 10 rebs, but had dozens of tips to teammates. Shimek played like a solid game at both ends.

HAM shot even worse than BU did Tues... Pipers played very aggressive from the start and it backfired. Wiener drew 3 fouls in 4:10 and earned a seat on the bench. Foster was a total non-factor. DeRock was the only bright spot for HU and he disappeared in the 2nd half.

UST could easily racked up 120, as HAM played lousy defense. A 26-7 run to start the 2nd half made sure that UST wouldn't pull a Johnnie and choke. Not even LoCo can put a positive spin on HU's performance (although he will try :) )

Saturday will be fun!

Ugh!! My intern ditched out tonight so I'm back at work after watching my Gusties fall. Terrible!  >:( I just tooted though. I hope it smells.

Anyway, c mob is right. Great atmosphere tonight. It helps to have Carlies tailgating a few hours beforehand and you know the Gusties were booze cruising their way over - NOT the best idea, but it made for good fun in the gym.

Fork is the man. I say that because he's finally got the Carlies on the right page for pregame music. He's not bad on the court either.

GAC had about 4-5 possessions and 7-8 great shots at the basket when down 4. It seemed like the Carlies were just waiting to fold, but no one could find the bottom of the net for Gustavus. Great comeback though. Showed lots of character when they could have easily folded down 17 or 19 in the second half.

The TWizzler and Goose Neck matchup was crazy from the get-go. Goose was called for an offensive foul after TWizzler tossed him to the ground early, but Goose came back with a elbow to the face that went uncalled a few possessions later.

TWizzler threw up some UGLY shots, but Goose topped that with an airball 3 that was about 5 feet short. He didn't goose neck back down the court after that one, but the Gustie crowd did for him.

That was about the extent of their activities until late in the game. The Gusties were going for steals and TWizzler was called for a reach in near the top of the key. Goose responded with an angry movement that seemed suspicious from my angle, but I didn't have a good view of what exactly happened.

Afterwards, those with a better view were adamant he threw a punch - which, after the whistle, is grounds for an automatic ejection and, possibly, a suspension. None of the refs reacted and all told Hanson they saw nothing of the sort. Instead of being done 3 shooting FTs and getting the ball with 2 minutes left, CC maintained possession and canned FTs the rest of the way to ice it.

I'm sure we'll get the extreme perspectives on this now that I've brought it up, but I'm curious if there are any impartial posters who happened to see this situation unfold. Drake perhaps, but not Tommy's parents? :)

I heard there was a similarly volatile situation to end the UST game, as a few scrubs took to showboating in rubbing the Pipes' noses in the loss. Naturally, MM avoided that topic. Details anyone?

Actually, Wonka, I didn't mention it because it was instigated by some benchwarming punk from Ham and was rather trivial. UST was trying to run out the final seconds (like  Fritz teams always do-- same as GAC, SJU, CAR and most of the MIAC)  but Ham went hard for a steal (why? down 33 with 13 secs), so UST fed it underneath to a wide open Robinson who passed off to Worrell who dunked it. Then Ham #22 got in Robinson's face and threw a shove Robinson shoved back and 22 flipped out...and had to be restrained by 2-3 of his teammates.  A real non-story, kinda like your chirpping Weds about someone playing "their best ball of the year now" ;D

I was standing around the top of the key and although I'll be the first to admit my bias and the fact that I had 14 uh...brats in me from tailgaiting, I don't even recall any suspicious movements.  Zoro has been known to throw a few elbows here and there but I don't think he'd throw a punch, especially after getting ripped apart for the retalitory elbow against St Mary's.  Once again, biased, but I'm not sure it was a big deal

MM - I heard a different tune, but I'll let another who stayed until the bitter end - and isn't utterly purple - explain. I'm also not sure the Gusties' best could beat Carleton or the Tommies this year.

Also, I think I left my Sports Illustrated at Taco Bell in NFLD. It's not the 30 million dollar swimsuit issue, but I'd still appreciate if the Mafia could locate it and burn it, ensuring I don't get any hatemail sent to me over the coming weeks. My cover may be blown, but I don't need my address circulated around the hood, if you know what I'm saying  :P

just got done doin some work from my remote desktop...i sound really cool and high tech

WW
from what i saw i thought Zoro aka Goose popped his elbow up in the direction of his face pretty fast...i didnt see any contact though cuz it was a bad angle but it looked as if he had both hands on the basketball when he did it so i dont think it was a punch...that was from the corner of my eye though

i thought CAR's bench came up huge on the defensive end of the court tonight...everyone played very solid and will need another effort like that on saturday
