Another honor for Ike. From today's STRIB:

• St. Thomas junior center Isaac Rosefelt was named third-team NCAA Division III All-America by Basketball Times.

Also, Tom Conboy was named second team All-Region (???) while Dan Forkrud received third team honors. Personally, I dont think Conboy was one of the 10 best players in the MIAC, let alone the entire West Region.

UST, I agree with your statement on Conboy. If you based it strictly on offense he might have been. But, he only played on one end of the floor!

I agree.  Something is wrong with that picture.  Seems to be purely based upon a review of the stats sheet without regard to team record or anything else.

Interesting to note that Mac has had a first or second team All-Region in each of the last 3 years.  I also thought it was interesting to see that Paul Henrichs of St. Johns was a 3rd team All-Region pick 3 years ago when this year there was considerable discussion on this Board as to whether or not he would make All-Conference.

Nites, I didn't have the privilege of seeing Henrichs play three years ago. I watched him numerous times this year. There were flashes where he was abolutely awesome. If he had been able to sustain those "flashes" He could  have challenged Ike for POY.

As has been discussed many times on this board, His role with Johnnies changed significantly as a result of Lieser and Westman transferring in.

I wonder if Tommy Drake's career is destined for a similar trek.  He was touted as a possible POY candidate this year after a stellar freshman season, yet he didn't even make All-Conference Honorable Mention.  Did Drake's game fall off or was his apparent more a result of his change in roles?  Interesting how team chemistry and roles can affect the perception of a player.

I believe Sumander is 100% correct about Henrichs. He had a role on the team that MADE him carry them and score alot. This year and last year he has scored less because he has had alot more support. This year for instance he was fourth on the team in scoring at 11.2 ppg. Compare that to his Junior year of 2004-2005 when he scored 14.6 ppg and led the team to my knowledge. MM may be able to tell me if he was the leading scorer or not on the SJU team. Finally in 2003-2004 Henrichs averaged 17.1 ppg and must have led the team. As i said before he is a great leader and in the past two seasons he led by scoring this year he led by the sheer fact that he was a senior. He brought rebounds and emotion to the Johnnies which was a huge aid.

Tom Conboy?

Didn't know SID Andy Johnson at MAC had that much pull within the D3Hoops ranks?

Go Monmouth!

PI....my guess is you have the right last name, wrong first name  :-X

Regarding Henrichs...I agree with Watchdoggie--- PH molded and carried that team for 3 years, and with the addition of some talented players, it's only natural that his role would change. The leadership & direction he gave the team throughout his career continued this season, but this year his main role was in areas that dont always make the stats sheet/box score. I guarentee you that every coach in the league would love to have a Henrichs (or two) in their lineup.

Forkrud deserved 2nd team over Conboy any day. Dan was one of if not THE finest all-around players in the league over the past 4 years and had a simply stellar senior year. Without him CAR would have been 5-7th place this year-- talented, but young and lacking leadership.

MM. So what do you think the answer is to Nites question about T. Drake. What do you see his role being next year with Forkrud gone?

Sumander... sorry to steal this one from MM but these are just my thoughts. One would think that teams would key on Drake more now that Fork is gone but you can't forget who CAR has coming back inside......Zach Johnson. I think Drake will step it up and so will Zoro. CAR may not be back where they were this year but i think they will make the playoffs.

SUM-- I think CAR will expect Drake to be more a part of the offense than he was this past year, and more like he was FY. He needs to bulk up some to be a presence in the paint, which is where the Knights will miss Forkrud the most. Depending who CC brings in as their annual top frosh, he may find himself getting more open looks in 06-07 than he did in 05-06. The "three-headed monster" (Drake, Zorro and Phillips) is a pretty potent core. What CC finds to go with that will determine their fate.

MM, Question for you, Is it possible to get a pulse on the recruiting in the MIAC or is it pretty much wait and see who shows up on campus next fall?

Sumander-
its far, far less of a "science" than at D-I or II where they sign a committment. Frequently you run into situations where kids are interested in, accepted at and "set" to enroll in multiple schools, before finally deciding-- some as last as tail end of August-- where they are gonig for sure. A year ago, there wa a lot of serious talk about Zorro going to UST, HAM, CAR or MAC. Ultimately, Kalland was able to land him at CC, just as one example.

It also hard to say who will stay put for four years....more than a few have made All-Conf or HM and then transfered within the MIAC (Eric Ferch, Mike Wrobel and Matt Arnold are 3 who come immediately to mind

Thanks, it sounds like you're of the opinion that Drake's "apparent" (stats sheet) drop in his game was akin to Paul Henrichs in that it involved more of a role change than stagnating skills.  As I recall, Drake did pop for 32 one game last year so it was very puzzling to see very pedestrian stats out of him most games.  Could have been the dreaded "sophomore jinx"!   :)  If he can pick up some of the slack resulting from the loss of the Fork, Carelton should be in the mix again next year.
