All Maturi has proven thus far is that he is all talk and no walk.....in any situation or circumstance he's involved, he cannot make hard decisions.

The skeleton squad that Borton has left has/will have no respect for her; recruiting will take a big hit as prospects will be very skeptical on commiting to the 'U', and really, the only person that is extremely happy with this mess is........Dan Monson as all the spotlight and negativity has turned away from him!!!

;)

Story in the PP this morning. Williams departure finally got Maturi's attention.

....and furthermore, WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING IN MILWAUKEE AT A FRICKIN' HOCKEY GAME WHEN HE'S GOT A MAJOR PROGRAM THAT'S STUMBLING, BUMBLING, TUMBLING RIGHT DOWN THE CRAPPER OVER HERE?!!!

[oh that's right, we need to be politically correct and attend attend everything; to make sure he stays out of the office, I suppose he'll wander down to the river and do the timing for the damn rowing team!!!]   ;)

They better start dusting off the seats at the Pavilion....women hoops may have to move back there!
With only one player over 6 feet tall and very minimal experience returning, the wins next year will be in single digits......low single digits!!!
It's unbelievable how fast a program can go in the tank! The impact isn't for just next year, but how many years down the line?

Once again the best of the in state recruits will be heading elsewhere.

Will Maturi get to root of the problem? I doubt it!

Do I go to the women's board to read about the drama at the U of MN men's basketball team?   ;D

That said, I agree that (1) Maturi is in waaaay over his head and has no clue how to run a HS athletic dept, much less a major college's; (2) Borton is a horrible coach, both on and off the court and should be replaced by yesterday; (3) Monson & Mason are as inept as Borton but with slightly better 'people skills', managing to keep most of their players. They both need to go, too.

If the U canned Maturi and all three coaches and was willing to spend the $$ to bring in some top-flight people to replace them, then maybe the U athletics would be worth giving a rip about. The sad fact is that the four fools will continue in their present positions for the foreseeable future. But give the U points for consistency: 40 years of mediocrity or patheticness in football, no untainted men's Final Four appearances ever and a women's program that is rapidly returning to its tradition of the first 20 years or so-- utterly pathetic.

For as long as I can remember, the U has bungled athletics, with rare exceptions in hockey & wrestling, although hockey would be hard for even the U to screw up, given the talent pool in its backyard. (Over the past 6-8 years, MN has produced as many D-I full scholarship women's basketball players as any othe state-- sadly, nearly all of them have gone to colleges out of state.)

Maniac +K to you! Just trying to breathe life in a very stale board with talk of women's hoops! I agree wholeheartly with your assessment of the U. I am not quite sure if patheticness is a word but it was appropriate.

Sumander-- I don't think its a word either, but all the words I could think of to use in place of it are unprintable!  ;D

Wow, this board has a lot of U of M chatter on it lately.   :P

Anyone have any MIAC news?  Recruiting scuttlebut?

LC – you've got it all backwards.  You're supposed to get on the board & announce possible recruits, followed by the elder statesmen of the board who chime in disparage your news.  ;)

We should have a better idea of who all is going where after the spring signing date.  I believe it's next Wednesday 4/12.  As of now there are a number of solid, high school seniors remaining who haven't formally announced their college intentions.  And as we know, a number of those players who are going D3 might not commit to a school until the first of May or later when it's time to cough up the $150.00+ for enrollment deposit.

I've had my ear to the ground & I really haven't heard much more since the last time the topic of recruits came up.  What's happening at Piper Village?

Lies, Half Truths & Innuendo

I've heard half of the western world, north of the Rio Grande is going to St Olaf to play for the real Coach K.  ;D

6-5 Kyle Luebeck from Braham was one of those players rumored to be going to the Oles, but I also heard he was at the Auggie Admitted Student School Preview the other night.

(It's unusually quiet on Riverside ave in Mpls.  I hope Coach Griess & staff at Auggieville are out making connections in the community, otherwise next year could be another painfully, long season.)

5-8 PG Jontae Kooenkaew from Apple Valley is another one of those players rumored to be attending STO.  (I dont know why he would do that.  The Oles already have a 5-8 5-9 pg in Steve Banick who will be a junior next year.)

6-6 Post Andy Hartman from Eagan may be attending GAC

UST is after 6-4 wing/forward Mark Torell & 6-6 post Brian Hosfield from Armstrong.

Hosfield is playing in the high school All Star games this weekend as is my D3 pick to click, Eric Hostetter from Stillwater.

Drake - As always it's good to hear from you my friend.  :D

I don't have any definitive recruiting scuttlebut to offer, but here are some, as you dubbed them, "Lies, Half Truths & Innuendos."

Augsburg is recruiting a handful of junior college players.  I've also heard they may get Zach Krumwiede from Martin County West.

Gustavus will probably get Andy Hartman from Eagan, along with a young man by the name of Ryan McPartland from LeSueur-Henderson.  Both players are about 6-5 and play similar to current Gustie Phil Sowden.

As for the Hamline Pipers, it sounds like the coaches have been hard at work trying to get some size to go along with the talented freshmen guards they have.   I've heard names like Erik Gusaas from Richfield, Nate Robertson from Forest Lake, Chris Hasse from Mankato West, and Chris Gonsior from Centennial.

The only other thing I've heard in passing is that a couple of MIAC teams, including the Tommies, may be getting some transfers from the Division II level.

Drake Palmer

Thanks for the update LC.

I saw the Hamline & UST coaches at the Richfield-Cooper state tournament game.  Gusaas looks to be an enthusiastic, if not good sized, 6-8/ 6-9 post player.  I don't believe his skill set has caught up with his size yet.   ;) According to Cmob, Nate Robertson from Forest Lake is pretty close to committing to Carleton.  Gonsior from Centennial could be a real nice, D3 post player.  Every year it seems that the post players are becoming more & athletic.

Augsburg needs a little help at virtually every position & if as TH4L reported, they get guard Jon Cassen from Prior Lake, he would certainly bolster their team depth.  I've seen the Krumwiede name before but have no idea what type of player he is.

Another senior I like is Steve Duncan from state champions Hopkins. If his head isn't getting too puffed up by friends & family telling him he "ought to get a scholie" & go D2 or better, he would be an excellent D3 player.  He's got good size, height - 6-5, athleticism & toughness to potentially be a star in this league.

loco-what is the relationship (if any) between the Gonsior you mention and the one who played or plays at Olaf (Ted, I think)?

All quiet on the gossip/rumor front here other than some vague word from Cobberville abuot a bumper crop of recruits... I wonder if Soren Nelson will steer any Duke rejects to Moorhead?

no firm word on any potential trasfers, altho there was a voice mail waiting for me last night form someone claiming to be Adam Morrison, wanting to rent a room for the 06-07 school year while he played for St. Thomas  ::)  Maybe he'll be Willie's new whipping boy next year  :)

sound like CAR has a good shot at getting a 6'3" wing out of seattle, WA who made a visit to the college this weekend...he was a high school teammate of Martell Webster who was the 6th overall draft pick in last years nba draft by the portland jailblazers
