There is no semi about it. Yeah, I've been surfing the journalism job sites.  :-\

I'm checking the board for the first time in a few days, and as I expected there's very little chatter.

I spoke with a couple of MIAC assistant coaches this week and found out the following recruiting scuttlebutt.  Keep in mind I only know what I'm told, which is my disclaimer to all of the following information.

-Macalester is apparently getting a guard from Grand Rapids named Paul Richie.

-Hamline is apparently getting a post from Mankato West named Chris Hasse.

-Augsburg is apparently getting a forward from Belle Plaine named Doug Beal.

LC - You don't appear to be overly excited about the recruits like you were last year with Hamline's DeRock & Thrasher.  Is there an explanation?  The off-season "chatter" has been a little light & I l think you're just the man to change this around.  Give us some speculation, stats, innuendo & hearsay.   8)

I see where Sam Wiener has joined Hamline's baseball team.

Drake, I wish I had more to offer but that's about it.  I hate the offseason because instead of college basketball we get baseball, and I'm just not a huge Twins fan or anything.

With regards to Hamline's recruiting class, I don't know much about Hasse.  Maybe some of the posters who live down towards Mankato can offer some commentary.  I know that the Piper coaches are still out working trying to get a handful of big men play along side those talented guards that they have.  They seemed pretty excited about the possibilities should they get the players that they covet.

Any words of wisdom from you?

And yes I saw that Sam Wiener is playing baseball for Hamline, who I see is in 2nd place in the MIAC.  I think he's splitting time in the outfield.  I also saw that Kyle Foster is something like 5-1 with under a 3.00 era and a couple of shutouts.

Drake Palmer

Sorry – nada, zip zilch, zero.

As time goes by I think I 'm going to become more of a reactive poster than a proactive poster.  Since I've hung up the AAU coach's whistle, I don't have nearly the same involvement, (limited as it was) with high school players, parents & coaches as I once did.

Press on LC, you'll have to carry on with the yeoman work.  I'll try to back you up.  ;)

Drake & Local,

From someone who is completely out of the loop (me) any information or BB chatter is welcome.

Either of you have thoughts on Pat McKenzie joing the J's staff?

If he's who I'm thinking he is - is he that sawed off little gnat,  I mean, short PG that graduated a couple of years ago?   ;)

If I recall, he was a very tough, feisty competitor.  Other than that, I know nothing about him.

I believe he is a 2004 SJU grad and did play PG. He has been at UW-Green Bay as a grad assistant(?) i believe.

Their quick!

That's why I thought it was odd, or maybe they'd had a second opening, who knows. :)

If this board gets any quieter, pretty soon we'll have Loco trying to convince us this leprechaun is Hamline's answer down on the blocks (It takes awhile to load, but it's well worth the wait).

On a brighter note, this Tom Petty playoff stuff is great. Drake, I know you feel me.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Whoever was talking about the Hamline bballers that also play baseball, I watched Kyle Foster pitch against St. Olaf in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. He managed to scatter 10 hits and not allow any runs through six innings, and then with a 1-0 lead in seventh and runners at 2nd and 3rd, their shortstop missed a grounder on a nasty hop that let the Oles win the first game. Foster's not bad though, good fastball and mixes his speeds well. Not sure if anyone on this board would care, but I thought it was interesting.

Huh?!?  I had to walk away from the computer, do something else, come back & re-read your post before I think I got the obscure links.

Soo, if I'm reading you right, you're saying that LC might say that the Johnnies' pint sized PG might be the Pipers answer at power forward right??  :D

Speaking of obscure, did anyone ever see one of my guilty movie pleasures – "The Postman" starring Kevin Costner?  I think TBS must show it like once or twice a year.

Anyway, it takes place in post apocalypse America somewhere in Oregon. Costner's character, the postman is on the run from a rogue army when he comes across a mysterious man guarding this drawbridge over a river. Who was the mystery man you ask?  None other than the musician turned actor who "didn't want to live like a refugee" - Tom Petty.  ;D ;D

Alright Willy - you've gotta make your highlighted links stand out a little more than that!

I finally saw/noticed your hyperlink which was almost as difficult to spot as the leprechaun in the video.  Hunh? Yeah right -  - leprechauns in Mobile Alabama!  ::)  ;)

Drake-

I own it. I think I got it it for 4.99 at Target. It's not a bad movie, people were just still pissed at Costner for Waterworld.
