Drake - I watched every single minute of the draft, including said selection. The moment was great, but Stephen A had no part in making it great. In fact, when I saw SA was on the panel instead of Sir Charles to start the night, I almost decided not to watch ANY of the draft.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Aah Willy - c'mon!  Let's face it, you just don't like Screamin.  But if you put aside your biases for just a moment, you know he was an absolutely key character in the ensemble cast of characters who made that situation as ridiculously funny as it was.

Could he have carried the show by himself? NO.  That would have been like asking Howard Cosell to do MNF with just  Frank Gifford.  They needed Don Meredith's humor to balance out Howard's genius!  Same with my man - Steve.  A little Stephen goes a long way!!  ;)  And I thought you had a sense of humor Willy - smirk.

Good dig Zoo.  The Big E will be missed.  Hopefully the Cobbs find a suitable replacement.

Have a good 4th everyone!

Willy...I'm with you all the way on the Sir Charles bit.....Stephen A. is nothing more than a loud mouth piece of crap; can't stand him.

Sorry, Drake, but SA just doesn't cut it for me.

And likewise, Happy 4th everyone........we do live in a great country, don't we?!

;)

WW,

Thanks.......

The player who transferred from CAR to GAC after his freshman year was Luke Schmidt.  I searched a few archives from the mid 1990's and I concluded that he must not have transferred to SJU. He finished his college hoops career at GAC.

i just realized that it has been a very long time since i have wrapped my own burrito...i think there is a strong correllation that and chipolte although i havent had a burrito there in a long time...i think that its most important that we all realize what an influence digital cameras has taken on our lives

Cmob, Post #500 up next! I'm sure it will be something very profound!!! ;D
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

SUMMIT!!!!!

I caught UST play UWRF in the MCTC leauge ...UST was without Schnettler and Keating and had a a jet-lagged Ike...he's back from 2 wks in Aussie with an All-AM team....he loks skinnier than ever, not a good sign!

Sunday, I saw Brink for SJU make The Smirk looks fallible as all get out...hard to gauge SJU, tho, as only 5 guys were there-- Brink, Ohme, Westerman and 2 I didnt recognize.  The team they played was N Ohme, Espo, and 4 guys I couldnt place.

Caught a glimpse of BU vs some non-MIAC team....BU has a guy who will be the shortest player in the MIAC since UST's 5'4" kid a few years back and the 5'5"  (or so he was listed) that played for Mac from TX. BU looked so-so, but their opponent was definitely the best on the courts that night

MM....talked to a guy that was also at MIAC Sunday's games and he said the big Bethel boys had enough baby fat to form another player! He said they had good size though and thought they could be pretty tough.

His take on GAC was they were at best "so-so" but didn't think they had won yet in that summer league.

;)

That's because the "GAC team" is really a Bloomington J team, with Ohme the self-appointed star. Any time a MIAC role player like he or myself shoots 20-30 times a game and former CAR lackey Lakanwal (sp?) sees major minutes, you know the team is in deep troubs. Plus, all guards and Espo isn't exactly a great mix :)

Anyone else heard of this "Westerman" guy Mose is rambling about? :P

WW- the GAC team in that league is all current GAC undergrads (Sowden, Olson, the big kid from FL, etc). It sounds like you're refering to the "alumni" team of Nate Ohme, Espensen, and a couple of others. Actually, N Ohme rarely shot, much like his Cobber days. I'm sure they have a roster spot open for you next year.

Funball-- yeah, I'd agree with what you heard about the big BU guy....but the team they were playing as clearly the class of the 4 I saw play.

Summer leagues are a hard way to gauge anything though, as many are only partial teams, there's little to no coaching/strategy, and the officiating is of the "no blood no call" vein of thought.

Cmob- if you're not already up in Brainerd area, you need to go!  According to an article the Trib picked up from the Brainerd Dispatch, Pequot Lakes is celebrating Bean Hole days this weekend.

...Jon Hovey, co-chair of the Bean Hole Days celebration in Pequot Lakes, used a paddle Wednesday to stir a large pot of baked beans. Watching Hovey was Dave Hallbeck (left), owner of Sibley Station in Pequot Lakes, who was crowned King Bean before the beans were served to about 2,500 people Wednesday. Hallbeck was given a wooden bean scepter, a bean sack cape and several packages of Beano that were pinned to his official Bean Hole Days headwear.

"I'm shocked," Hallbeck said of the honor. "I think the main requirement (for being crowned King Bean) is to be full of gas. And I am."

Hallbeck was involved in preparing the beans. He helped soak the 200 pounds of navy beans Monday night and mix the secret baked bean recipe. The secret bean recipe also included brown sugar, molasses and 90 pounds of bacon ends from Thielen Meats in Pierz.

Hallbeck said the recipe for the baked beans is so secret that he only knows half the recipe and a couple of other members of the Bean Hole Days committee only know the other half.

Bernice Rohde, chair of the arts and crafts committee for the event, said there were 80 vendors at Bean Hole Days. This year organizers unveiled a new Bean Hole Days logo, sold on T-shirts and headwear. She said a lot of people plan their vacations around the annual celebration."

Luther and Eleanor Ness are summer residents of Clear Lake in Ideal Township. They figure they've attended Bean Hole Days each year for the past 32 years.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the actual photo from the event, so this one will have to do.

Just from personal experience. It is better for all when Nate Ohme does not shoot the ball. One idea is to not even run him to the offensive end of the floor.

Cmob.....with the right combo of beer and those Pequot Lakes beans.....given the right "launch" you could be back in the Cities in an hour's time!!!

From today's Star Tribune in Fatty Pat Reusse's column:

QuoteMIAC basketball doubleheaders this winter will include this twist: The men's games starting at 5:45 p.m. and the women's games at 7:45 p.m. Unless it's Tommies-Johnnies, crowds are not enough of a revenue source in the MIAC to worry about the order of games.

Is this a joke? 5:45? I'm just getting off work.
