MIAC Pick Em

The board is locked, so you'll have to have Pat unlock it.  Basically, you can't post anything right now.  I had to have him unlock the WIAC Pick Em board.

Shameless Self-Promotion
The season starts in a week, don't forget to join the Survivor League and new the Nationwide Pick Em League in the multi-regional board!!!  ;D

My bad OS & SDG, I never noticed the "reply" button wasn't currently available on the Pickem board.  SDG - since this weekend is the end of the regular football season, Pat might be pretty busy.  So to get his attention, you might have to send him a PM.

I sent a PM to Pat last night.  I'm not expecting any action anytime soon with it still being FB season.  As for the new game, it's actually really simple.  I probably made it sound more confusing than it really is (I have a tendancy to do that).  9 spots still left.

I unlocked it last night if anyone checked.

I did notice that.  Thanks again Pat.

That's cool.

I have nothing new to report or say, but  I wonder what the MIAC board record is for the number of consecutive quotes used in a post.  This particular string of "quotes" is now at 5.   ;D

I think it's fair to say we need to get the season started & soon!  ;)

Yep.  We are still doing the regular pick'em as well.  There are 6 spots remaining in the YNOT.

I'm in for pick 'em and the YNOT. Not quite sure how it will all come together, but i'll give it a try. PI, that was a cheap shot, but I can't blame you for dishing it. LBOW will probably be a more reliable UST source than me this year. The last group of guys that I really knew there were the seniors on last year's team, and I doubt I'll get to a lot of games this year, but I'll do my best. Can't wait for basketball season to start at all levels. I've already had two kids in town sign d-1 scholarships for next winter.

Heck they'll probably invite LBOW back to practice this year!!

Having played against St. Anthony Village's "big" Paul Muenchow, who was worse at basketball: him or TommieHoops4Life?

As a personal rule, I can't show any hate to tall lanky basketball players.

Snowman, unlike your lanky self, I will comment on Muenchow and Tommie Hoops 4Life

That's a tough call, I do recall a game my sophmore year when Muenchow got the ball in a drop step situation and couldn't get up high enough to dunk it.  Being that he is 6'10 or 6'11 I think that speaks for itself.  I remember grabbing the rebound and shaking my head wondering how that is possible.  It was a game at Hamline and there was a moment of silence and gasps of disbelief from the student section.

I've played with Tommie Hoops a few times and I think a 1 on 1 matchup could settle it. TH4L does have a soft little lefty touch. What about at halftime at a Hamline-UST game?

piperinsider

LBOW-
I was at that game my senior year. Wow, was that place quiet (besides the laughter) when the rim rejected his dunk. I'll end this debate with this: Muenchow had his moments, TH4L got cut. You should've gone to Hamline.

With the addition of LBOW in here, we now have 1/2 of the Missota covered this year. TH4L at Northfield, Wonka at Red Wing, me at Hutch and LBOW being a former Laker.

Let's get the season!

I'm disappointed that the quote line didn't continue.  It started making a cool design.  >:( :'( ;D

BETHEL34

Tough first five Conference games for Bethel this year.

Dec. 2  Hamline  Away  1 p.m.
Dec. 4  Gustavus  Home  5:45 p.m.
Dec. 6  Carleton  Home  5:45 p.m.
Jan. 3  St. John's  Away  7:30 p.m.
Jan. 6  St. Thomas  Home  1 p.m.

First 5 games against all playoff teams according to MIAC coaches and most on this board.  They could start off the conference season 0-5.  You would have to say that Gustavus and Carleton at home are their best two chances of winning in these first two games.  Then you have the at Hamline game as a possible win.   If they could go 3-2 or even 2-3 I would see it as a great start to Conference play.

Old School - since I semi came up with this consecutive quote idea,  :P, I think it's only fitting that I create additional rules as we deem necessary.  We set the MIAC consecutive post/quote streak at 8.  No thanks to TH4L for breaking the streak  ;D ;D

So now we must start anew: How long can we continue to post & quote around a central theme or idea?  That theme or idea being the 2006-2007 Pick-em contest or the new YNOT contest.  Whenever you reference either one of those items in your post, you must quote the previous poster who cited the original "record" quote in his post.  Just like I'm doing here.

i'm going to go out on a limb and say that Bethel starts out at least 3-2 in conference play and possibly 4-1 as i hope they will

Hamline- W...guards will score for hamline, but wing and post play will help bethel prevail by about 10
Gustavus- W...Wittwer and Sowden can only carry the gusties so far...Moberg will give Big Phil problems in the middle and the guards for Bethel will be too much...Bethel by 7
Carleton- W...Johnson may get 15-20, but Moberg will dominate inside and the guards will be too much for Carleton...Royals by 13
St. John's- this is my wild card game...i think it could go either way...battles outside and inside will be fun to watch...whoever shoots better from the outside will win...game will be decided by 7 or less
St. Thomas- L...Moberg will be welcomed to the MIAC by Ike...Bethel doesn't have anyone who has proven they can keep pace with Schnettler on the scoreboard and Keating will be a tough defensive draw for anyone on the Bethel team...St. Thomas by 14

c'mon Royals...let's make me look like a genious and get that 4-1 start...if they get out to 4-1 or even 3-2 they will finish in the top 3 in the conference because they will only get better as the season progresses
"A true champion is someone bent over, drenched with sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is looking."

d3bballfollower

all of my predictions above fail to mention 1 key player...meadowcroft...as he goes, so will bethel...besides moberg there isn't another "take over the game by himself" player on that team...meadowcroft is the x-factor for the royals...the royals have a chance to win the conference, but in order to do so meadowcroft will have to play well in at least 16 of the 20 games...and when they play UST he will have to outplay his probably matchup in mike keating

if meadowcroft can average 18 and 8 this year bethel wins at least 15 games in conference...if he doesn't then bethel will most like end up somewhere between 13-7 and 10-10
