DP,

Wow did I take your comments in the wrong context, my bad. You're right, I was first in line to rip Seth Midura for his corn rows, I believe I referred to him as Slim Shady, since he is from the "ghetto" that is Wayzata. I guess I thought what you were saying is that by the UST players looking different or not having everyone dressed the same, one person thought they were better than another, which couldn't be further from the truth. It was my misunderstanding, you know as well as anybody that I don't mind ripping athletes for looking like fools on the court.

I ripped the SJU post players earlier this week after a mediocre performance against Carleton, and I think I've officially found my replacement for Adam Denny. None other than #50 Jason Fogt for the Johnnies. Watching that guy try to play basketball was a very interesting experience. He was about as exciting as back in my UST days when the cheerleaders would come out and try to pump up the students, when really all we were waiting for was to see which cheerleader would take the first fall! In the Carleton game, I was waiting to see which foot he would use to trip himself to the ground first!

TH4L, Won't disagree with you that smooth and Jason Fogt are not often used in the same sentence. One game does not a trend make but look at Fogts #'s from the Morris game.

Most of those field goals were not put backs or lay-ups either. He has come a long way since last year. He needs to continue to improve because he will be the Johnnies #5 next year!

No way you'd get into the Duke jeering section with those research skills. He's from the rough-and-tumble town of Plymouth.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

That's cool TH4L, but I think you got my post mixed in together with Willy's.  I made some observations, Wonka passed judgment. ;D

Besides, you of all people must know the maxim – "he who lives in glass houses..."  Its ok for you to rip players or as Snow so aptly stated – "ego – deflating", but it's not ok for others to do the same?  I'd hate to think how you would react if Willy, I or others were doing some serious ego-deflating.

Based on your response, I take it you haven't seen Grant this year?  Come up to the cities & check him out when they play in a couple of weeks.  I think you'll agree the comparisons between him & Midura are not off base.

The difference being TH4L has my number and knows who I am if he needs to yell at me. Drake? Not so much.

Here's another difference for you – I try not to put myself in a position to be yelled at.  Others do.

Wohler and Goophs for coaches of the year!

Speaking of which...how about that meltdown today against a sweet Arkansas-Little Rock team? Yuck.

wow...that must have been the worst CAR game i have seen in 3 or 4 years...just nasty

cobbernation

Cobbers remain winless with a 62-58 defeat by the Mayville State comets.

Cobbers score 20 pts in 1st half and found themselves down by 14 at the half.  Hard to come back to win those games.

No stats were up yet, except for Linz had 18 pts and 7 reb.

SJU loses for the first time last night. It was no disgrace losing to this SCSU team though. Johnnies couldn't get a bucket to fall when they needed to late and Dreas from SCSU didn't miss late!

The Huskies seemed to be a step quicker at nearly every position than the J's. Dreas and Sullivan were both able to create their own shot off the dribble. This gave the Johnnie defenders some trouble. Schneck for a true FROSH was a horse on the inside.

The turnovers killed the Johnnies. 15 turnovers led to 26 point for SCSU. The Huskies only turned the ball over 4 times.

I thought the corp of juniors, Foght , Brink and Nick Johnson played well for the Johnnies.

My perception from the game was that Westman did not shoot the ball particularly well, the box score shows a different story. He ended the night 7-11 from the floor. I guess I just expect him to make it every time he shoots.

Morris again on Wednesday then it's off until after Christmas.

Sum - certainly nothing to hang your head about up in C-Ville.  Playing a tough game against the x-town D2 rival is good, but being 4-0 in conference play going into the holiday break is probably even better eh?

Looks like a couple of star crossed teams will be meeting further on up the road in Moorhead when Concordia & Carleton go at it on Monday night.  The snake bit Cobbs lose yet another game to Mayville State 62-58.  However, I think most experts would have considered it a minor upset if the Cobbs would have beat Mayville this year.

I think the real surprise of the day was Carleton losing to Augsburg 80-69.  Looking at the boxscore the game appeared to be fairly close:

FG% - Carl – 47.5% Augs 51.1%; A/TO – Carl – 16/8 Augs 15/18

The biggest difference I could see was in the 3pt shooting & rebounding.  From the arc the Knights were a cool 4-20 for 20%, while the Dawgs were 10-19 52.6%.  Reading the post game summary, it sounds like even Coach Griess was pleasantly surprised by their shooting.

But the biggest surprise to me was the rebounding difference.  Augsburg is a bigger team this year, but they are still not a tall team.  The smaller Dawgs nearly doubled the Carleton rebounding total, & grabbed 37 boards to 19 from the Knights.  In fact, Auggies' 6-1 FY PG Jon Cassens grabbed 6 boards which was 1 more rebound than the combined total of 6-5 Zach Johnson & 6-6 Tommy Drake. Hunh??

Auggies also shot more FTs than Carl, but I'm guesing they spread the floor once they grabbed the lead in the closing minutes of the game & made the Knights foul them.

Auggies had 18 TO's and still won!! Wow that impressive. CAR ususally capitalizes on those TO's. I must take my hat off to AUG though. They have sure suprised me thus far this year....that just means another team in the MIAC to worry about.

miacwatchmen summed it up best.....Augsburg had 18 to's and still won.  That tells you something about both teams.  Coach Greiss has really done a nice job with the program this season.  I will have to get to a game soon.

Hamline continues to struggle.  From what I have seen they continue to get little help from their seniors and have to rely on DeRock and Thrasher all the time.  I think that will have to change if they're going to contend for a home playoff game.  I just don't understand how Sam Wiener and Chris Babcock can be this inconsistent ???

Heard the Johnnies have some injuries to deal with.  Still I think they will be undefeated going into the January showdown with the Tommies.

I made my way over to Hopkins yesterday for some great high school games.  The MIAC was well represented.  I saw coaches from Carleton, Hamline, St. Thomas, St. John's, and St. Olaf.  Even Coach Hanson from Gustavus made an appearance.  I also had a chance to chat with an old friend of our league in Jeremy Tiers who was watching for Bemidji State.  Some very exciting games!

Local, Long time no post! Where have you been?.

Injuries in C-ville, C. Schafer  broke his nose in practice Friday and Fogt tweaked an ankle. Both played in Saturday's game. The J's go to Morris on Wednesday and then are off for two weeks until they head to Daytona after Christmas. Should give them time to heal.

Did I miss a rule change? In Saturday's SCSU v. SJU game, SCSU got a bench technical. Westman made both FT, Then SCSU, who had the ball when the technical was called, got the ball back. I thought the J's should have recieved the ball?
