Ike has been cleared to play on Jan 3rd............

That's good news for the Tommie faithful.  Any idea when he can resume practice? It could be a little tough getting his court legs & endurance back before going down to face Carleton on the 3rd.

I'm proud of you mobster...gettin' down, dirty and greasy is good for you!

Now that the MIAC teams have played a number of games (although not against each other save for a couple here and there), what's your thoughts?

Man this board is dead.  Ok, Cmob, Funbb, how bout this? Let's start a list of favorite places for burgers.  Due to my general stomping grounds; my places are restricted to mostly the east side of the Cities:

Excellent burgers

St. Clair Broiler – StP (home of the "secret" sauce)
Runyon's Nook – StP
Sweeneys' Saloon – StP (enough grease for a week)
Matt's Bar – home of the world famous "Juicy Lucy" – Mpls
Town Talk Diner – awesome gourmet burger ("the Kitchen Sink") – Mpls
Lions' Tap – Eden Prairie
Convention Grill – Edina/Mpls

Decent burgers

Groveland Tap –StP; Snuffys' Stp, MPls, Roseville; Andy's Garage – formerly in St. Paul, now in Midtown Global market - Mpls; Porky's (primarily because of the retro drive–in experience) – StP; Wagners' Drive-in - Hwy 7 Hopkins (ditto).

Recommended but not tried – Happy Gnome – StP; 5-8 Club - Mpls

Legit Fast Food Burgers - Wendys', Culvers

Burgers on the Down Low - White Castle

Double Secret Down Low - Monster burger at Hardees  ;) ::)

The monster burger will keep you full for a week!!!!!!! I've had a few late night experiences to know that you won't have to eat until the next night after having one of those ginormous burgers!

Lions Tap is a stunning establishment

Willy Wonka

Having taken a class field trip to the Lion's Tap as a sophomore at GAC, I must agree with UST's assessment. Just a beautiful burger, especially when it's free.

That might have been my second favorite J-Term class while at Gustavus, just behind the ever-popular Metaphysics of Star Trek. The final: Is Data human? There's not wrong answer, but please explain your reasoning.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Ut oh in MIAC land... ???

The Johnnies go down to the land of Disney & soundly loses to Ursinius 73-49 & shoot an abysmal 29.6% from the field.

Back in MN, the SMU Redbirds get back into action & works Nebraska Wesleyan 76-61.  Good win right?  Yeah, but scanning the boxscore I noticed "Waren Sapp's" name was nowhere to be found.  Then I realize that Alex Washington, the soph Sumander was raving about didn't get in the game either.  So I did some further digging around, & notice that Washington & Terrence Smith's names are no longer listed on the team roster.   And unless my eyes are failing me, they've pulled Washington's stat line from the team stats categories.

Extreme Tuber or Flip the Red Bird, what's up? Hopefully this isn't more bad news, or is the end of a bad news streak for a school that has had more than their share of negative news in the last few weeks.

I also happen to be a Lion's Tap fan.  On my list I would include:

top beef
Fuddruckers-home of some collosal burgers

worthwhile
Ike's in Minneapolis
Lyon's Pub in Minneapolis
Wild Onion's sliders in StP

and speaking of sliders, where would the world be without
White Castle?

You can cross off Andy's Garage on University as it closes Saturday I believe.

Nothing beats Casper and Runyon's Nook on Hamline and Randolph, especially when they have dollar can night.

Last Sunday I'm at home and mom is sick, and I say to my dad "Crave Case," he nods and drives to the Castle. Closed. Two days later it was open. My stomach hasn't been great since.

IMHO....

    Lions Tap is slightly overrated

    The following are excellent:
        5-8 Club
        Annie's Parlor - U of M
Sadies on U of M campus
        Matt's on Cedar Ave.
        Lyon's Pub & Wild Onion

I believe "The Mobster" is listed in the Hall of Fame at each of these establishments.

Mobster:  "The greasier (sp?) the burger...the better it is, right?"

White Castle?  Same as the Asian Flu!!

Happy New Year everyone!

;)

columbianmaffia

at the u of m you cant go cant go wrong with a couple burgers at
sallys
annies parlor
steak knife

everything has been pretty much covered

wendys tripple burger put me on the map...that was the wettest, juiciest slab of meat i have ever consumed.

hardees always served up a mean mushroom and swiss burger but now i have to get those at DQ for the fast food side of things

i always like the sit down resturaunt for the big burgers but the tripple burger at wendys will always have a place in my heart

on a side note...just slid a new keg of bud light in the kegorator last night...its delicious...gotta love it when you have a full bottle of jack on the side too!

BRING ON THE HEFFERS!!!

Tommies win last night.

Good bench production from Viau (who played his best game of the year), Dwyer, McCoy, Shimek and Eicher.  They all gave quality minutes off the bench and made some things happen.

UST had some sloppy turnovers but with the long layoff that's to be expected.

Interesting note, Big Man Fritz played everyone on the bench except for one guy! The box score says Ike played and he had jeans on!  This was the first time I have ever seen Fritz use that many guys in a game.  With 13 minutes left in the first half, 12 guys had already played.  He was giving quick hooks to whoever wasn't doing what he wanted.  Not a bad wake up call for some guys, but with that in the back of your head the whole time, it makes it a little difficult to play.

UST obviously didn't play their best game and I don't think Scholastica could have played any better.  If they played again, the game wouldn't have been close.

UW-River Falls stomped some crappy North Central team from who knows where, 110-66. (It wasn't the good North Central team from IL, that made the NCAA's last year)

UST vs River Falls at 8 pm tonight.

Off to a long day of watching bowl games!!!!!!!!!!

Bow - I've been groaning about PG play & TOs for awhile now with this year's version of the Tommies.  It's been an unsettling trend for much of the early season & really became noticeable beginning with the MAC game the first of December.  Any talk by other Tommy boosters about deep postseason play will be just that – talk, unless they get this worked out.

The Tommies should/better win tonight against River Falls, but they are going to be tested at the guard spot.  I saw UWRF play against Bethel last month & they're undersized, but quick.  Ryan (?) Thompson is a nice, streaky shooting PG/ 2G, Davis is a beefy swing player, & FY PG Kooenkaew (sp) is the same height, but a little larger & stronger version of Abe from Mac.  Abe & Kooenkaew have very similar playing styles.  Kooenkaew & the FY post Nate Robertson were both heavily recruited by MIAC schools & would have been nice additions to the conference.

In a way I understand what Fritz is trying to do with the club.  Time is starting to run out to get a solid nucleus in shape.  He's got a very nice assemblage of talent on the team & a superstar, & he's trying to find the right pieces that will fit this year.   With Ike going out last week, you could see Fritz auditioning players in the LAX game & shuffling players in & out.

I've not seen Viau play enough to form an opinion, but someone told me that Viau has an absolutely money mid range jumper & could be one of the missing "pieces."  He's certainly got the size, can he successfully run the point & defend?

North Central is a Bible school located in or near downtown Mpls & plays in the NCCAA (?) association which is a loose affiliation of Xian schools acrss the country.

Js - What's up with the Js? They lose yet again down in Florida.  All of the Johnnies seemed to have lost their shooting touch, but Westman in particular seems to have suffered the most.  He sprained his ankle against Morris earlier in the month, but he came back to play extended minutes in both games in Florida & shot a combined 6-23.  Ouch!

Cobbs - lose as expected to Mankato by 30 some odd points.  For the few Cobb faithful on the board, Brock Citterman was back in the lineup but based on boxscore review only, he seems to be playing the same as before -not very well.  I caught the tail end of the post-game radio interview with Coach Siverson, & he at least was putting a positive spin on their W-L.  He seemed to think they could still take a run at making a positive season yet.  I guess we'll see.

Viau is a sophomore that is about 6'2, 6'3 and plays a 3 position.  He is a smart player and deceivingly quick.  Good with either hand, likes to finish with his left actually.  It's taken him a few games to get his feet wet, but last night could have been his coming out party. I wouldn't say he's a point but he made some very nice passes last night.  If he can continue to be productive for UST, it would be a big plus for the Tommies.
