now, i realize that the game is still a week away but, both SJU and the TOMMIES each only have 1 game remaining until that game.  The game is AT SJU and i would like to hear what everyones opinions and kind of a game predictions may be??

my thoughts are this.....being a home game for the SJU i think they are going to be able to pull it out.  With school being back in recess, i think the home crowd which may end up being the biggest crowd SJU has had in many years is going to be the deciding factor.  Like it or not SJU almost always shoots lights out at home.  On the other side im sure ike is going to get his normal 20 pts and 12 boards or so, im sure schnettler will also get his 18 but if SJU can hold keating to 10pts i think that will secure a victory.  Why do i think this is possible?  With the way brady brink has been playing i feel he is one of the few players if maybe the only player in the miac to really matchup well against keating defensivly.   He has the height, length, speed, and athleticism to shut him down.  It may end up being the matchup of the night!

Since my knowledge of all things sports-related is legendary over on the MIAC football pages, it just did not seem right to not share my prescient knowledge of the pumpkin-pushing pastime over here.

So, SJU4life I sees it this way:
Ike gets tossed on T's 3 minutes into the game after his scrum with some SJU fans who were just sitting there minding their own business. Keating fouls out early in the 3rd with 6 points after Brink makes him his bee-yotch.* Schnettler leads the purple with 14 points, 12 from the line because his uncle's cousin is reffing. SJU wins going away 82-55.
Any other questions?

Since I'm driving the bandwagon, we will be stopping at the La for pre- and post-game Hamm's next Wednesday. All are welcome, even Tommies (if you buy). ;)

*Edited, email me if you don't know what this means.

Ut-oh, Finsleft has surfaced along with his bandwagon. Looks like a Johnnies-Tommies week is shaping up. **

Fins, in case the cyber monitors stop by, you might want to "edit" your previous post to read B!tch instead of the other B*tch.  They keep us on a tighter leash over here.   ;D

** Looks like I have to edit my own posts for "grammaticals."   ;)

very amusing....especially Keating fouling out early in the 3rd.  Assuming your  "prescient knowledge " is as amzing as you claim, I can only assume you are referring to a 3rd overtime.  However in good rivalry fashion, I have to say the game will be long decided by then.  Let me supply a different version of your post.

***************
Ike tosses garbage shots by all starting Johnnie's into the stands 3 minutes into the game. Ignoring some scrub SJU fans who were just sitting there. minding their own business. Keating comes out early in the 2nd half with 26 points after Brink cries like a bee-yotch.* Schnettler leads the purple with 34 points, 12 from the line because his unstoppable driving. UST wins going away 82-55.

"He's [Keating] the best player in this conference," said Hamline coach Barry Wohler, who was watching Wednesday's game. "He does everything."

Well, if the "best coach in the MIAC" agrees with me......KEATING FOR ALL-AMERICA!!!!

Strange though, that with all that "talent" and the "best coach" Hamline is again sitting near the bottom of the conference. SMU has taken hold of its usual place as well. Ever feel like the MIAC is an awful lot like that Bill Murray movie?

I agree with SJU4life, the crowd may well be the deciding factor next Wednesday night. The game is going to be huge for both sides. If the Johnnies can't beat the Tommies....obviously no one can in the MIAC. Ike, Keating and Schnettler will get their 20 apiece but the Johnnies subs, i.e. Brink and Co., will pour in their 10+. This is going to be a very tight game. No prediction from me yet.

"He's [Keating] the best player in this conference," said Hamline coach Barry Wohler, who was watching Wednesday's game. "He does everything."

Wow. I saw Reusse struggling to get up the UST stairs a few times and assumed he was doing another UST/SJU-type preview, this time putting the pressure of Smith. Sad story for Fritz :(

HOWEVER, Wohler must be on crack making that type of statement after last night's game. MVP Keating missed an uncontested, wide-open layup and his jumper looked like something I used to throw up — hard and about 12-18 inches off. He looked worse "healthy" than he did "injured" to me.

GAC shot terrible and the Tommies played a zone (WHAT??) to take advantage of this deficiency. 0-7 from deep in the first half and 3-21 on the game. Most of the shots, especially in the first half, were wide open.

One particular stretch stood out as a Gustie fan. Andrew Olson, were did a nice job on Schnettler in the first half, got caught chasing and gave up one or two quick 3s in the middle of the second. He came back and tried to answer, getting blocked by Dwyer. The ball popped nearly straight up, but Olson put his head down and didn't even move as UST went down for a layup — even getting in the way of Sowden, who tried to sprint back. He was pulled and didn't go back in over the final 10 minutes, as the lead went from something like 8 — 5 if the shot had gotten off and gone in — to 10 and GAC never really threatened again.

Tyler Kramer also went down with a knee injury that may end his season. Kaus still didn't see any clock.

Dan Grant and Alex McCoy were studs last night as Fritz went deep into his bench for the first time I've seen in years.

Obviously, I was at the game last night. Despite the 17-point win...am I alone in thinking the Tommies aren't even close to being the third best team in the country? Yes, that's as much an indictment of the Gusties as it is a shot against UST.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Now having seen both the Js & Ts play, if someone put a gun to my head & said "pick a team," (revised by my editor - Abominable Snowman) here's what I would say:

If it was game of 3x3, I'd pick the Tommies hand down.  Arguably, I believe Ike, Mike & Schnettler are better players than the Johnnies top 3 - Lieser, Westman, Ohme or one of the Schafers.  But, when you look at the top 5 thru top 10 players for both teams, the Johnnies have the superior overall talent.  How does that translate to the court?  I think a home & away split might be forthcoming, with the rubber match going to the Tommies at the conference tourney final.

The other factor not easily measured is this - leadership under fire.  Mebbe its because I haven't seen the Johnnies play enough, but who's the leader/s on this team?  You don't have to watch for a real long time to know where the Tommies' leadership comes from.

Both the Johnnies & Tommies better extract every bit they can out of this season.  After this year, the cupboard looks to be relatively bare at both schools.

P.S.  I've said this all season long Willy, I think UST is ranked too high.  I've seen the UWSP championship teams, Lawrence, & your 03-5 Gustie teams.  And as much as I would like to see UST or anyone from the MIAC have a deep post season run, I just don't see it happening this year.

Edit - I just made D3Hoops All-Conference fellas! It's karma time   ;D

Figures -- this would be the game you would watch & Keating has one of his stinko games.    ???

At some point you're gonna have to give him his props. I guess just not last night.  :'( ;)
