Daaaang Tommies!

Every team hits a bump in the road, better now than in March.

Couple thoughts.

Other than the Big 3, not very much production from anyone else.  It seems a lot of these guys are afraid to be aggressive and it shows.  I wasn't at the game but I heard from some people that guys were passing up short shots in the lane or wide open jump shots from the elbow area.  Take your shot when you have it, make yourself someone who has to be respected.

Bryan with only 4 shots! Somebody hit a guy and get him open. Set a pick and actually make contact with the defender to give Bryan the required 6 inches he needs to be considered open.  He's the best shooter in the league!

The past few games I saw and from what I heard from the other games, UST hasn't been playing all that well lately.  They don't seem to be flowing like they were earlier in the year.   They're probably putting too much pressure on themselves.  I wouldn't worry about it.  They have 10 conference games to figure it out and when they do, I'd watch out.

Good first half of they year by SJU.  They're in the driver seat now, every game is a big game.  Looks like a 2 team battle for the conference.

Expect an absolute thrashing on Saturday at St. Mary's.  I wouldn't want to be UST's opponent.

The only pick set all night was by Jason Fogt at half court when he leveled Keating......solid screen but the refs decided to call a foul. Keating was seeing birdies after hitting that wall! Leiser did a pretty good job last night on Schnettler but Schnettler didn't really look to shoot even when he had the ball. The second half he hit his open looks but they were few and far between.

Right on on the Fogt foul call, Watchmen. Just because Keating fell on his ass after running into a wall, doesn't mean he was fouled. Ref heard his ass hit, then turned and called it. Refs did a good job of calling the Tommies for all the walking they do, however.

As for the refs I think they did a good job. The fouls seemed to be called on the Johnnies for the most part but they were the correct calls. They were very aggressive and with that came fouls. The only foul I have a problem with was the Fogt screen call other than that they did a good job.

Looking back today I would have to say Brady Brink played the best game of the night on either side of the ball. 10 pts 9 rebs 3 blocks in 29 minutes of play. He was the spark for the Johnnies. He seemed to be every where down the stretch....Defensive player of the year and sixth man of the year. He was dominant on D.

Ho hum, ho hum...The Johnnies are better than the Tommies in another thing.  Add it to the list baby.  Tommies will always play 2nd fiddle to the Johnnies.  It is called an inferiority complex for the novices.  Great win for the Big Red Machine.  Keep on Rollin'.

Fins: Are you seriously talking hoops?  Do you know the positions and the goal of the game?  Keep the bandwagon on the tracks...

Seriously is right baby! I've got a basketball jones. Positions? HA! Doesn't stop me in football and it won't stop me here.
Any other questions for me?

Basically everything has been said about the game but in a slight defense of the tommies if schnettler gets what he has been averaging then SJU probably does end up losing by 6 or 8.  Ryan i think played really good defense on him and in general I think the officials let a lot go off the ball allowing players to be real physical while guarding westman, liesure, and schnettler which probably contributed to all three of them with slightly lower numbers then normal.  It was a great game to be at, i would have to say these were close to the best officials i have seen so far.  On a plus side for SJU i think this was one of the best coaches games in recent SJU history, so congrats Jim Smith for keeping your bench subs to basically brady brink, Jason Fogt, and Nick Johnson!

Sorry PI - Fins got that straight from the MIAC website.  In the case of a tie they go in alphabetical order.

Well you can tell that McKane character that I won't stand by and watch this injustice.

Alphabet or head-to-head don't cut it. We had 4, they have 2.

Man, I'm bored.

PI- What is up with the Pipers?
I have not been to a game this year, but two years ago, coaching under Wohler it seemed like he was building some excitement around the program.

Now What?

I am now coaching at Foley and have a couple of kids that SJU is very interested in.  They were at the game last night and have bought into the hype that is MIAC basketball.  I tried to tell them what a fun league it is, now they know.

PS  i never hit from 27, maybe 26

If that's how it goes, Drake, how do you explain the order of the 5-5 teams?  Does the alphabet go B-A-C?  ;D

Sheesh you legal beagle types!  :D  Mea culpa, my bad, apologies etc.  I mis-spoke. "Conference standings" are based on conference W-L record, head to head results etc.  Bethel beat Augsburg, who in turn beat Carleton, thus the order of the 5-5 teams.  Cobbs beat the Pipes in the duel of the cellar dwellers.  Happy?   ;)

Oh golly gee, how nice of you football posters to make a field trip over here to visit your buckethead boys.   Good to see ya again Tmerton! Hows life? You need to make it back here for winter Johnnie classic!

PO-
In talking with a former player that both played for Gilles and Wohler, he just said that x's and o's Wohler is getting outcoached. You can't just win with offense.

I think the problem with Hamline isn't the players. They have the talent with DeRock, Thrasher, Foster and other guys such as Weiner, but I think its the style of play. You have to coach to what you have. I'm not sure if he does that. And his rotations are crazy. Zev Kujolic (sp) doesn't see the court for xx games and now is playing big minutes? Figure out what you have against Scholastica and Crown and go with it during conference season.

Another problem with the Pipers is that they don't have an experienced shooter that can hit the big shot. DeRock and Thrasher are sophomores. You don't want Weiner, Babcock or Foster taking the final shot. This team needs a leader and I think the one thing with Charley Good was that he was a man. I'm not sure how vocal he was, but his work ethic really wore off on his teammates I believe.

DP-
The head-to-head thing is not fair right now. We lost to the Cobbs on the road. It was a long drive.
