Snow – funny you should ask that.  I started checking on this very same thing yesterday on the MIAC website & realized they don’t have the tiebreaker procedures listed - yet.  Here’s what they used last year & I’m guessing in previous years for league tiebreakers:

MIAC Men's Basketball Tie Breaking Procedure
1. Head to head competition
2. Results against all teams above those tied
3. Results against above teams beginning in rank order.
4. Descending order of losses.
5. Best road record.
6. Coin flip.

Sum – here’s an interesting stat from the MIAC website which tends to support what you’re saying about the Js.

SJU currently leads the league with a very nice 18.1 assists per game average. The Johnnies also lead the league in the A/TO ratio category at 1.50/game.  In comparison UST is at 1.25 A/TO game.  These figures seem to support the idea that right now, the Johnnies seem to be running a fairly, nice little offensive machine.

How about some help for those of us that are a little slower than the rest of you? What does tiebreaker #4 mean?

I can only guess or speculate.  Replace the word "above" with "below" in the tiebreaker procedure  & then stack up how the the teams fare.  I was going to take a stab at it, but nah,  ;) I won't.  It's time to call in the experts - Mose you want to fill us in?  Gracias.

Just a little FYI for my hoopster homies...

The bandwagon has been cleaned and repaired. Some of you will not be getting your damage deposits back. I think you know who you are.

I will not be driving the bandwagon to Moorhead this weekend as Moorhead is the most boringest place this side of Siberia. THe only thing it has going for it is that we could make jokes about "more head" when we were teenagers.

Any responsible driver (No more than 2 prior DUI's; no felony convictions)may take the helm after signing the appropriate waivers and release. The keys are in the ashtray next to the church key.

Make sure it's gassed up and clean when you return it.

Tax and license extra.

Your actual mileage may vary.

Not quite sure if I am up to all the responsibilities that come with driving the bandwagon! Fins, maybe if you put the training wheels back on I will take it for a spin this weekend! ;)

Now you I can trust. I'll even take the governor off, and leave all the Buffett discs cued up in the deck. Have fun and be careful, it shimmies a bit over 80 mph. Go Johnnies!

I am now coaching at Foley and have a couple of kids that SJU is very interested in.  They were at the game last night and have bought into the hype that is MIAC basketball.  I tried to tell them what a fun league it is, now they know.

Former RRC member represent! RRC pride, nationwide baby! Oh for the good old days of Milaca, Sauk Rapids, Foley, Chisago Lakes, Princeton, North Branch, Pine City, and Mora (and who could forget about Cambridge before that) when giants like Conrad Emmerich and Jesse James roamed the plains. Things will never be the same....

Shocker - Does MVP Keating still deserve the sirname after getting blocked by a kid who doesn't even start in crunch time?

SUMMIT!!!!!

To my knowledge the rules were not changed since last year, so they remain the same as last year.

As I understand the tie-breakers and as I remember from last season's tie...if it comes down to a tie for first between SJU & UST, there are 3 scenarios to take into account.

SCENARIO I
If they both end up 19-1 (for WW's comprehension, this means UST wins the rematch at Schoenecker, and they sweep everyone else between now & then):
1. Head to head competition-- becomes moot, as they are 1-1 head to head
2. Results against all teams above those tied- also moot tied for 1st
3. Results against above teams beginning in rank order.- moot, as tie is for first
4. Descending order of losses.-- also moot, both are 18-0 vs teams below them
5. Best road record.-- moot.. both are 9-1 in road games, SO...
6. Coin flip. this is it

SCENARIO II
If SJU and UST are tied 18-2, with SJU beating UST but losing 2 other games
1. Head to head competition-- SJU gets top seed as they are 2-0 vs. UST

SCENARIO III
UST & SJU tie at 18-2, splitting their 2 head to head meetings & each losing to one other team
1. Head to head competition-- moot, split
2. Results against all teams above those tied-- moot, no one above them
3. Results against above teams beginning in rank order.-- moot, no one above them
4. Descending order of losses.THIS IS IT (like last year). This depends who UST & SJU lose to. If the team that beats UST finishes higher in standings than the team that beat SJU, then SJU gets the top seed.

Last year, UST & CAR tied at 17-3. They split head to head, there was no team ahead of them, so it came down to #4. Of their two losses not to each other, they both lost to SJU. the remaining loss was to HAM (by Car) and AUG (by UST). Since HAM finished higher in standings, it was the first loss used to break the tie ("descending order of finish"). So, UST got the top seed.

Personally, I think #4 is backwards. UST, by losing to the last place team, should be penalized, not rewarded, for that loss. But, the coaches make the rules, and we all live with them.

Anyone else have scores?

GAC wins 79-70. Abe, the league's leading scorer, apparently held to 2 points. Doble drops 21 for the Gusties.

Oh, and GAC's new announcer sucks something fierce. I miss KRBI.

CAR beats the auggies....sutherland with another outstanding defensive performance he absolutly shut down cassins....johnson made some brilliant passes today and played great all around...the freshman rosett had 20....phillips also had a good game and the knights looked very sharp....they have now won 4 of their last 5 and the majority of their remaining schedule is at home...hopefully they can keep it rolling

CAR beats the auggies....sutherland with another outstanding defensive performance he absolutly shut down cassins

Sutherland didn't start guarding the young freshman until the middle of the first half. It was a great coaching moving, putting the lankier sutherland on the smaller cassens. But cassens looked very tentative tonight. He had several opps to shoot the three and passed. As did other well known auggies like Graf. My fear is the emotional griese is not handling the young teams stretch of poor performances well and now he has a team that is fearful of making a mistake rather than playing the full throttle, wide open game they played at the beginning of the year. Femi was a non factor and what has happened to the Krumster. His minutes are down and he looks more like a scared dog than the fy team selection we saw at the start of the year. His poor shooting lately has seemed to bruise the fy ego. Griese displays a lot of displeasure with his jacket being thrown about and colorful language.

Don't get me wrong, it was a different Charlton team than the first meeting. Sutherland looks to be a future playa it this league. The knights also exposed the aggies lack of depth.

I mentioned this before but did not hear a response. Can coach g succeed with these young auggies?? Again, his auggies were in reach at the end of the first half but with no changes to the game plan, the Knights simply ran past the auggies. I've seen this at many levels with basketball coaches. The ones that succeed are the ones that can make the adjustments that tip the tables. Does coach g have it? Guy makes a nice adjustment with Sutherland on cassens. How did coach g counter? Nothing. This is a tough league with seasoned coaches. Coach g needs make the necessary adjustments to put his team in a position to win.

Let's hear for the more experienced miac faithful. Does coach g have what it takes to compete with the smith's, fritz's, hanson's ect of the league??

I see the bandwagon was in capable hands today. Was out at the Finsleft Casa d'ice this afternoon, listening to the Big Lebowski call the Johnnies continuance of their swath-cutting through the MIAC.
After a few Hamm's at the Lodge, I come home to find the bandwagon parked, cleaned and ready for the next trip to the Mississipi bluffs. Nice work Sumander, way to deliver the goods!

Fins, it was a tough trip! The Cobbs played tough and the J's looked like they had a little bit of a Tommie hangover! The end result was what we wanted though! The Band wagon crew wasn't too rowdy! In fact I couldn't even get em to stop at Mick's Office!! ;D

More on the game later.
