Thanks, BG

Jon Bain records a double-double and St. Olaf gets a crucial win on the road at Concordia.  I think the Oles won by 7 or 8 points.

The Tommies roll past Hamline by 20.  Bryan Schnettler had a career-high 33 points, including 9-of-12 from 3-point range.  Sounds like USt raced out to a quick double digit lead and never looked back.  Tony Thrasher had 30 in the loss for Hamline.  Of note also is the fact that Kyle Foster was in uniform but did not play at all for the Pipers.  It sounds like the coaching staff may have finally had enough of Foster's attitude.

One final note concerning Jon DeRock.  He had 10 points tonight.  What happened to the explosive player that everyone saw as a freshman last season?  Have opponents figured his game out or is it a sophomore jinx ala Tommy Drake?

SUMMIT!!!!!

Schnettler was totally in a zone tonight...6 for 6 from 3-pt land in the 2nd half,. 9 on the night. He shattered Kip Sparby's UST career 3s record (in 3 seasons, or about 30 games less) and should blow past the MIAC career record (unless Russell adds to his total again between now and the end of the season).

Foster sitting the whole game was baffling except in light of his antics vs BU. Thrasher played a phenomenal game for Hamline, no "soph jinx" there, Loco. DeRock looked timid on offense, which was never the case last year.

Is the league down or up? Speaking as someone who has been following the MIAC for a few years (decades?), I will say it is neither down nor up. It continues to be the best winter sports entertainment in town, unless you consider the semi-pro teams at WIlliams and Target "entertaining" for more than firing coaches. Sure, there is more talent in Williams and Traget Center, but it is boring watching either the Goofs or the Tremblin Pups. The important thing is to ENJOY MIAC hoops, something we all obviously do.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

9-12 shooting from downtown - that's some serious shooting!  Big upps Bryan Schnettler!

CD-DNP.  Apparently he's received several warnings the past couple of games & also during the Bethel game.  So when he went with the - stop dribbling the ball at the FT line while getting ready to shot his FT & shot a "if looks could kill" routine at the Bethel fans, I guess Wohler said "#@!!*^% - "that's it!!."  I think it's a 1 game Ricky Davis type suspension.   ;)

******************************************
Johnnies eke one out over the Carlies 65-60.  Lieser leads the Js with 14 pts, all in the 2nd half.  Westman scores 9 on 3 treys in the 1st half, but apparently Sutherland shuts him down in the 2nd.  Thanks to the announcer for the Knights who does a very nice job by the way – The knights actually out-rebounded the Js by 13, but yielded 14 points off TOs compared to collecting just 6 pts off TOs from the Johnnies.  ZJ scores 22 pts, Bryan Rosett gets a dub-dub & scores 18 pts, 13 boards.

Mose - sounds like you've been hanging out, doing some reflection in the Gene McCarthy Library, learning how to appeal to both sides of the political, I mean sports aisle.  "It's neither up nor down" - what the sputter, sputter, sheeesh!   ::) ;D

well tommy drake ended up not making the trip up the collegeville tonight...sounds like SJU controlled the game and kept a 10 pt lead until the last couple minutes when CAR made a run

on a side note i dont know if anyone posted this but i heard that matt ohme scored his 1000th career point last game becoming the 30th player in SJU history to do so....congrats

hopefully the knights can get on a little roll here and get in the playoffs

sounds like sutherland had another nice defensive game

After watching the Gusties play yet another almost good game, I finally realized what the missing piece is. They have an inside scoring threats, big bodies underneath to grab rebounds, ballhandlers, dribblers, passers, shooters, and a pretty good all-around defense. But they don't have a goofy-looking, deceptively athletic, almost-never-shoots, guy to neutralize the opposition's star and put up the one-man 6-0 run exactly when his team needs it.

Willy Wonka

I'll applaud that kel, though I have no idea who you would be talking about... ;)

Caught the second half of the BU/GAC game tonight and the Royals looked tough. Nothing really came easy for the Gusties, except when the BU point guard gambled and went for steals. Moberg has a soft tough, but seemed a little crazy on a few plays in the final 10 minutes. And where's Cook?? I don't think I even saw him on the bench...

Down the stretch, the Royals made all the plays and GAC struggled mightily. That said, if Sivesand makes either one of his wide open 3s - he's shooting 56% in MIAC play - in the final two minutes, we're likely talking about a Gustie win.

Tough loss in a game that could have all but sewed up third place in the league. Now it's possible that GAC could slide from solidly third to fifth or worse with a few bad breaks. On the flip side, that's a great win for Bethel that could sling them up into third.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Fins, The bandwagon is back in the garage, keys are in the ashtray! Things were a little wobbly near the end last night. You might want to get the alignment checked prior to Saturday's outing against the Gusties!  ;D

Another game where the J's had their opponent on the ropes and failed to deliver the knockout punch. At about the 4 min left mark, with less than 5 sec left on the shot clock Brady Brink nails a 3 from 2 ft beyond the arc to put the j's up 15. One would have thought that was the blow. It wasn't. In fact SJU was up 11 with a little over a minute to go and the Knights had it down to 3 with :13. Brink hit two free throws to ice it .

Lieser was absolutely horrid in the first half. In his defense, he did have a couple of shots that were half way down and then rattled out. The second half he actually penetrated on a couple of drives and took the ball to the hole! I haven't seen him do that all year.

Westman was perfect from deep in the first half 3-3, and only shot one three in the second half. He was 0-4 for the half. He did have some open looks but passed them up.

C. Schafer had a good game, 13 pts 7 rebs in 22 min.

Jason Fogt gave the J's some nice productive minutes off the bench. He was 5-6 from the field, for a total of 10 points in 15 min.

Johnson and Rosett scored 22 and 18 respectively. That was the quietest 22 and 18 I think I have ever seen. The Knights were way more aggressive on the boards on both ends. In the J's defense, it appeared like the Asian Sensation and running mates were bound and determined to keep the Knights in the game. At one point in the second half they had whistled the Johnnies for 10 fouls to CAR 2. It didn't appear like there was much difference in the play at either end??

So we turn to the Gusties on Saturday. BET goes to St. Peter and gets a big win. Johnnies are going to need to turn the intensity meter back up. they have played 3 indifferent games in a row and got away with it twice. I suspect that won't happen Saturday if they aren't ready.

Ohme has 1000 career points?!?!?!?! When did he score all of these?  Do baskets count as more at SJU?

Thanks for the Ohme stats Johnniepress! If anyone is interested the Johnnie Career Stats are an interesting read. Click on Career Leaders. Frankie alphabet is the 4th leading scorer in only 55 games! Wow.

Thanks for the Ohme stats. You can tell he was depended on to score a lot more his sophomore year and was a lot more aggressive on the offensive end looking at this shot attempts and TO's trying to make plays.
