I got so caught up in heaping praises on a mysterious Gustie of yesteryear, I forgot one of my other favorite pastimes. With a 72-65 lead and 3 seconds to play, Meadowcroft fouls Van Sickle while he's shooting a three-pointer. I can at least understand contested the shot. But why would you possible tempt the referees by complaining about it at all? Suppose Van Sickle sinks all three, then Olson makes the next two, Wittwer grabs the inbounds pass, puts in a lay-up at the buzzer while drawing a foul on the flustered Bethel defender. It's a bit of a pipe dream, but anybody who has been around the game for any amount of time has probably seen at least one or two crazy sequences like this.

The SJU career stats, though an interesting source, are still under construction. For example, we are missing the 1977-78 season stats (thus, Wachlarowicz's skewed stats).

Chica yea false identification

ohme doesn't shoot....his role has been completely taken over.  Here at st. mary's sweeney was actually sagging off of him and he still didn't shoot.  His sophomore year i know for sure he would have fired if he had any breathing room.

I was at the MAC- SMU game last night & was pleasantly surprised by how well the Redbirds played.  This was my first time seeing them this year & they looked solid on both ends of the floor.  They don't seem to have much depth or size other than Dan Cormier & Mike Batterman, so I'm somewhat surprised they were able to knock off the Johnnies with their superior team depth & size advantage.  Cormier is a quick post player, but from reading the box score it was Batterman that did most of the damage against the Js' interior defense.  Haywood was solid, as was Mikey Sweeney at the guard spots.  If the Birds would ever set some screens for Haywood & Sweeney they could maybe scare/upset a few more teams.

Mac on the other hand, looked sorta flat & never seemed to play with the fire or enthusiasm that I've seen them display throughout the season.  Credit the SMU defense, & Scots' foul trouble, but Abe appeared listless, & Conboy had reverted to his  faulty shooting performance of earlier this season when he was averaging slightly over 42% from the field.  That's almost unheard of for a post player.  However, it doesn't help their offense when a team who depends so heavily on the trey has the shot abandon them.  They shot a Vanilla Ice like  -- 6-29 for a paltry 20.7% from deep.  Or mebbe it's just that the SMU have the Scots' number since they swept the season series from them this year.

... In the J's defense, it appeared like the Asian Sensation and running mates were bound and determined to keep the Knights in the game. At one point in the second half they had whistled the Johnnies for 10 fouls to CAR 2. It didn't appear like there was much difference in the play at either end??...

Drake, Have you seen Carleton yet this year?

Carleton must really miss Tommy Drake. I was underwhelmed with their half court offense last night. Outside of Johnson posting up on the low block and trying to go one on one there wasn't much. Rosett with 5 O rebounds and putbacks was there other main source of points. Rosett is definetly one of the top 5 Frosh that I have seen so far this year!

I've seen the Knights play 1.5 times this year.  Once live against the Dawgs & on a terrible webcast against the Pipes.

Yeah they do miss Drake, & I believe Jay Melson is just rounding back into shape after a foot (?) injury over the holidays.  Melson's not a huge scoring threat but he plays tough D. Their half court offense - Flex is predictable, but can be very tough if you've got the right players to run it.  The Carlies don't have a lot of other scoring options now.  If Rosett puts on weight & gets stronger he could be very tough.  But for better or worse, it's going to be Zach Johnson's team for the next couple of years.  Lets see if Coach Kalland can pull a rabbit out of his hat & get a bright, talented, forceful personality PG next year.  ;)

Sutherland looked like he had some quickness. He got past his defender a couple of times but was real hesitant to finish. Instead he pulled up for a short range J. I thought if he would have continued it might have opened things up more for Johnson.

Melson saw 16 nondescript minutes!

WHY Not Come back to the YNOT CMOB, Bethel 34??
The cheap wins are nice, but we've missed you on the pickem board.  ;D

DP, I have been without internet for a month or so now leading to a no show here on the board.  Sorry for messing up the special pickems part of it.  I normally post from work, but have recently moved to a new position and have had absolutely no time during my day to be posting up.  I am back in the game though!  ;D

I wasn't able to get to the BU\Gac game last night, but what a huge win for BU.  That game and the Olaf game are the only BU games i have missed so far.  Going into the MIAC Conf Season i had BU starting off 1-4 and at best 2-3.  So going 5-5 the first time around for this young team wasn't very surprising to me.  Knowing coming in that their primary ball handlers were Cory and Timmy, close game wins were not going to come easy starting off the season.  They just needed some senior leadership to take over at the end to win a couple of those games.  Chuck just hasn't been that person for BU thus far.  He had a huge 3 at the end of the GAC game in the first meeting to go up 1 with 11 secs left.  But all the other times Cory or Timmy had the ball in their hands and being both second year players, experience is something they lacked early on.  Therefore, second time through the MIAC i think they will go 8-2 and land the 3rd or 4th seed.

I am excited for the next 3 games for BU.  Tommy Drakeless Knights and SJU at home are must wins for these guys.  Well, they are capable wins.  STU at STU will be a 15-20pt lost for BU.  Bethel will not be able to produce the same type of game they produced against them at BU.   Cory and Timmy will be the difference makers on how far this team goes.  Chuck and Moberg will get theirs, Cory needs to continue to take care of the ball and be a leader out there on the floor as he is learning to be, and Timmy can continue to hit shots and be the scorer he is.  This team will be very dangerous come Playoff time.

it's going to be Zach Johnson's team for the next couple of years.

it is his team indeed...what he wants to do with it is the big question....he has the tools to lead the team to success but he still needs to figure out the little things (its not always about how many points he scores)...he is not far away...i think he will be able to do it in the next year or two...unfortunatly i dont think it will happen this year although i hope it does for the sake of my 6 years of following the program and this probably being the last that i follow it as closely as i do

on a side note

sorry about the Ynot...the first time i just forgot about it...the next couple times i knew about it just didnt get around to it...ill do my pics for saturday now

Mark Bakko...is the worst official in the MIAC and he hates SJU...he spent one whole possession in the  MAC game yelling at Smith and the bench...

Wonka took it to one of Jim Smith's kids last night on the hardwood, setting the precedence for Gustie domination of the Bandwagon tomorrow :)

If anyone will be listening to the game on the radio, I'd appreciate updates being posted. I'll be watching the Gustie women try to dethrone the Bennies and will enjoy catching up on how things went later that night.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Willie, I think Fins got the alignment checked on the Bandwagon. Things should be running smoothly for tomorrow's beat down of the Gusties!  :D
P.M me your Cell # if you care for in game updates in case no one is posting!

Affirmative, Sumander! It will be schmoooovalicious tomorrow as the Bandwagon leaves tire tracks on the backs of the Gusties.
