Drake, That is the exact play I am talking about.  ;) Defenders tried to fight through the screen and get a hand up but to no avail.

Westman hit a shot in the first half that was pretty sweet as well. He was driving from the left side of the basket near the elbow, pulled up and with a defender's hand in his face double clutched and hung long enough to put up a floater that got NBN!

Westman's shot selection has improved dramatically. Lieser, despite the numbers in the box score is struggling with his shot. He missed his first 4 shots including a contested lay up. His 5th shot, a lay up went in but barely. We need him to return to his early season form.

Greg - I'd be interested in seeing the resumes of the Pool Cs from last year (QOWI, RegRanks, RegWin%, etc.)  Is there a place I could find that info?

Would RegWin% be good enough to trump a lowered QOWI assuming SJU loses to UST then loses in Semis and a BU or GAC wins the tourney and AQ?  Maybe they'd still be one of the best 19 remaining, but 3 from the MIAC would be more than we deserve.

Tommies are up to No. 3 in the latest D3 Hoops poll.

Some quick notes about the last two BU game:

In the St. Thomas game Ike played like the true MVP.  Schnettler was very impressive but it was Ike play in the paint that keep the Royals in check.  He had a block earlier on Moberg and an incredible block on Strom who was going up for a one handed dunk.  He set the tone in the paint and Bethel couldn't get anything going.

Last nights game was one of the least exciting games I have ever seen at Robertson.  I think the students were a bit deflated after saturdays loss and of course it being on a monday made it a bit slow.  However Moberg put on a very nice show in the paint during the first half scoring 18 points with some really nice moves in the paint.

freebird- excellent analysis about the UST game...as for the game against the Oles last night you are right about Moberg, 24 and 18 for the game, but he had 18 and about 12 in the first half...he was non-existent in the second half, and if it weren't for a career game, or at-least career half by steve strom the Oles would have probably won the game...just as Ike did for the Tommies, I think even though Moberg had the better numbers and set the tone in the first half...it was the senior Strom who willed his team to victory in the second half...it's too bad that there aren't more kids out there like Strom, he works hard, plays defense, knows his role on offense, is a vocal leader and plays with passion...he will be vital to any future success that Bethel hopes to have the rest fo the year, he could be a difference maker...

I'm going to try and calculate the top two stats QOWI and In Region win % for the better west region teams here in a bit... that will give us a little better clue to how the region might vote tomorrow, and how teams might get selected in a few weeks.

Thanks DHF- but you better do it quick, cuz if I know BG, he's probably spending his lunch hour trying to crank it out.   ;D Us "babes in the wood" appreciate the help.  :)

P.S. edit - add Gustavus & Bethel to the mix & see what you come up with.  Gracias!!

Dwyer hurt his ankle/foot in the second half. Thats why he had minimal clock and why Tuma was running the show in the overtimes. Dwyer was playing solid, once again, prior to getting knocked out with the bum wheel. Tuma looked a little overwhelmed at first, but settled in and played well down the stretch. Hopefully Dwyers injury will not carry over to the GAC game, as senior leadership and big game experience at the point will be important in a hostile environment like Gus Young. The Gustie faithful are exceptionally adept at getting in guys' heads, and Dwyers been through there enough times that it wont phase him. For a young guy like Tuma, that might be asking a lot. Especially as he would need to play 30+ mins.

The Gustie team hasn't given the GAC faithful much to cheer about this season (12-9) and the sparse attendance that has resulted will be something you hardly recognize Wednesday night. Though the team has rebounded well from its thrashing at SJU - perhaps playing its best ball of the season - it remains to be seen how it can do against a talented, disciplined opponent. If the first matchup was any indication, an upset is impossible...but there's a reason why we'd call it an upset.

New Cobber - I watched your team play last night and it was ugly. I'm more embarrassed right now that the Gusties actually lost to the Cobbs up north than I was before; from watching last night, I'd have thought it impossible.

Linz, who is one of the best players in the league, looked frustrated and was subbed out frequently (knee issues still?) for being the best option on a bad team. The guards, Dyshaw and Citterman in particular, forced plenty of shots and made next to nothing. The PGs were invisible all night, though your bigs are big and active if not exactly effective.

Gustavus is hardly a dominant team this year, but they were last night.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Willy, You have seen the Tommies this year?? What are your thoughts on the match ups with UST and the Gusties?

Just looking ahead to Wednesday nights games I see some with interesting playoff implications for some teams looking to play their way in to the post season:

MAC @ STOLAF  - Can the stout Stolaf defense slow down Abe & Co?
CAR @ SMU - The Redbirds have been tough at home lately!

And UST @ GAC game with possible home court  implications for the Tommies.

No. :P But I can teach you to fish.... :D ;) I don't see how anyone with more than 5 regional losses makes the tournament, baring a major conference tourney upset. There are just too many teams with less regional losses right now than that.
