ustbum - Perhaps the greatest avatar these boards have ever seen. Best floor general with the least amount of talent you'll see in this lifetime or the next.

How much does TH4L want to bet that Nerd Bain celebrates the win by pulling an all-nighter in the library???

Oh, how this board will miss funbb for the next 48 hours...he must have seen this coming and made a preemptive move to call it quits. Who's gonna rev the Ole bandwagon as they prep for UST?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Now that I've calmed down a little,  I'll elaborate on the action at Gus Young tonight.

The competition sure heats up when teams play each other twice consecutively- especially around playoff time.

Remember discussion earlier this year about how Jesse Van Sickle was going to be a stud? There's no "going to" about it. He is. Whether it's a slick behind the back dribble to freeze a defender, or the I'm-better-than-you pull-up jump-shot, he can play.

Tommies-Johnnies? Forget about it. Oles-Gusties on Saturday for the final game of Jon Bain's career.

Nites - I'm sure they will now...someone is bound to hop on here. Maybe Disasta, the STO rapper who performs in the caf, will drop us some lyrics dissin' Ike and Keating. I've got my fingers crossed, in any case.

I'm curious as to what BETHEL34 and BG think of Laugen now. I wasn't terribly impressed the one time I saw him and now he makes the mistake that ends up costing his team the game.

Kel - I respect your cahonas...but I expect your karma will start dropping soon with predictions like that. Keep in mind UST beat STO by 25 @ Olaf and SJU dropped the Gusties by 34 in Collegeville in their last matchups.

Except for GAC goes to Collegeville and the Oles tangle with the Tommies . . .

WW, I was renewed in my admiration for him after attending the OSU-MSU game at the Breslin Center three weeks ago. It happened to be Cleaves' jersey retirement day, complete with a 6 minute highlight/music video at halftime (which was probably 15% just him smiling). The only thing better than Cleaves winning 2 Big 10 MVPs is the fact that he wore Spartan warmup pants while riding the pine in Sacramento.

This loss eliminates any hope that some diehard Royals fans had that BU could sneak in the NCAAs this year, even though almost everyone outside of Arden Hills knew they needed to win the MIAC tourney to make it. They are poised for a nice run next year, however. Id say theyre the team to beat coming out of the gate, hands down.

I was looking forward to a Tommie-Royal shootout on Wednesday. But, kudos to the Oles for dictating the tempo of the game and limiting Madson.

Just got back from Arden Hills, and let me tell you it was a barnburner.  It was the Bethel fans wearing all white, while the ole backers showed up in all black, I'm amazed there were no scuffles in the stands as both student sections were on top of each other, though Bethel fans outnumbered the Ole fans 4-1.

The Oles seemed to be hitting every important shot that came their way.  If St. Olaf wants to even be close to St. Thomas, they're going to have to come up and play as near-perfectly as they did tonight.  Jon Bain played his heart out on the floor today.  He looked like was going to collapse with about 15min left to play in the 2nd half as he walked up the floor in attempt to save energy and called for Kos to sub him out.

I was very impressed with Moberg in the clutch.  If he gets his hands on the ball anywhere near the post, you had the feeling it was going in with a probable free throw after layup.

I didn't get a great look at the double-dribble or carry, whatever it was by Laugen in ot, but the Bethel bench didn't seem too upset with the call.

Tough way to lose for the royals, but they will definitely reload and be very tough next year.

And you can't tell me the Gusties don't want revenge. That certainly can't be good news for the Johnnies. It may be a non-factor, but it only makes it more likely that the right side of this two-faced Gustie squad shows up at Sexton Arena. I saw the 34-point debacle, and I hardly see how that's a frame of reference for Wednesday's action. The only thing I know from that game, is that if the Gusties play it right, they can win it. Look for Jay Stien to lead the charge with a double double.

Meanwhile, in the matchup of premier senior forwards in the conferece, the Bain Train will roll right through the Shoe.

SUMMIT!!!!!

I have to file the game at Bethel under "if I hadnt been there I wouldnt believe it"... Olaf played infinitely better than in either of the games I saw them earlier, and BU played pretty flat. The Oles did a decent job keeping Madson from being a factor..he had 16 but was never able to break loose for a hot streak. Butala was on fire for the Oles. Bannick took a few shots towards the end that were poor judgement in my opinion, and nearly cost them the game.

Officating was light years better than SJU/UST...the crew actually understood the rules and their role in the game. Hopefully that crew works the title game, no matter who is playing it...and the Panning crew is bannished to Gophers or womens games
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

and now for my 3rd consecutive post in a row...

ahh...tonights game...you have to give the gusties a lot of credit...many different players stepped up and hit some big shots tonight...many of them coming in the final 5 seconds of the shot clock...it was a fun game to watch...CAR just couldnt weather the storm in the second half...i was expecting GAC to make a good run in the second half and i was hoping CAR could just keep in close when they did do that but they were unable to...DISCLAIMER...im going to now talk about the reffing but in no way am i saying they won or lost the game for either team...im just telling a story GAC clearly earned the victory...i thought the reffing was ok the first half...then there was a 5 minute stretch when i had no idea what was going on...i was dumbfounded that the ref that spent too much time in the tanning bed and bleached his hair too long called an intentional foul on tommy drake....wittwer took the ball to the rack and drake went up to block the shot with two hands got a little body and a little arm and knocked him back a little bit and the next thing i know the ref is galoping in with his hands crossed calling an intentional foul...seemed to me like he made the call just because he wanted a little show time...but it is what it is...

now i would like to say congrats to 3 hard working CAR seniors

congrats to jake phillips who set the school record tonight for career 3pt field goals made and for ending his career with a 45% shooting mark from the outside which is also a school record...the group of GAC students sitting at mid court kept chanting nerd when he got the ball but i didnt understand way because 1. he was lighting the place up and 2. the group of students chanting it were some of the nerdiest looking people in the building...congrats to my little bro even though i dont think he reads this board for a nice little career...i enjoyed watching his scrappy hard nosed play and intense defense that some if not all opposing teams found quite annoying...i think he put it best when he said when the final wistle blew and i looked up at the scoreboard and thought i gave it my all...congrats to tucker schiek for a good career and providing a bit of an energy spark off the bench in the first half when the knights fell behind early...the three of them made me very proud to be a knights fan tonight in their final appearances

congrats to GAC on the win...unfortunatly it appears as if wittwers nagging injury got the best of him tonight as he left the game with about 6 minutes left and was on crutches after the game...hopefully he is good to go wed because i dont like to see teams not at full strength in the playoffs

wow...i need to get to bed now...its really hard to roller skate all the way to st. peter and back even if i am wearing all spandex to make me more aerodynamic

Rough night in Arden Hills for the Royals.  I can't complain in the least, the Oles out played us and have the W to show for it.

Someone asked earlier about Laugen and to put it harshly he is the main reason we lost.  Not only the double dribble(he drove right and got the ball caught on his hip) with 5.6 second left in OT but also with his ill advised shooting(4-16FG) and 5 turnovers.  He forced shot after shot and tried to play more like a SG than the PG.  In OT he should have given to ball up to Madson or even Moberg and let them try to win the game.

Madson was terrible and couldn't get many shots to fall and ended up 6-20 from the field

Moberg was in foul trouble for most of the 1st half and played well in the 2nd.  His shot under the basket to end regulation was very impressive and makes me think he deserved the chance at the end of OT.

In the end BU played like a young team that couldn't close out a team they were favored to beat.

Thats all I got

I would like to issue a formal apology to Jon "The Brain" Bain.  I spent a majority of my career as a crazy fan just ripping this kid as a no-game nerd with minimal talent.  Last night he was easily the player of the game.  Hauled in some monster rebounds and hit the game winner.  While the young sophs of BU were rushing things and carrying the ball on their hips, Bain was cool, calm and collected.

Oles flat out outplayed the Royals.  I wouldn't say Laugen cost them the game but he is a coach's worst nightmare.  Always going so fast it appears that he is out of control and could do something really stupid at any moment.   And why they didn't have the ball in Madsen's hands to end regulation is just foolish!

Great atmosphere!

See you Wednesday!
