I was at the GAC-SJU game last night and I think that while it was physical, there was some consistency...as for the T distribution...Spanier as the lead official takes the one for the screw up in the book, which is on the Gusty coaching staff, Kramer had been out for a while, why he was not on the roster I am not sure...

Brian Mauer called the first one on Sowden, which I guess was for kicking the ball, Tom Mauer got him his second after he was called for his 4th foul and then said something to Mauer while walking to the bench,  and then Tom Mauer got him again about 1 minute later for saying something on the bench, to another player or under his breath or whatever...I didn't see any gestures to the SJU fans, but I did see him waive to the GAC students who drove up for the game...

Truth be told, I don't think GAC matches up well with SJU at all, regardless of the T's or any one play that happened like another poster commented.  SJU has better guards and they have more depth on the interior to match up with the J's and they have no one who can match up with Brink...Doble is a very nice player but does not have the quickness to stay with him.

The sad fact is without Wittwer at full strength or close to it, they lack a major cog in the machine.  Wittwer has been struggling with a broken pelvis all season, and the ankle injury was the last straw on his effectiveness.  The pelvic injury was the reason that he would play 4 minutes and sit 6 minutes in many games, it was all he could handle...you have to appreciate his heart, he could have shut it down and called it a year, but kept fighting.  My hat is off to him...

Sorry to follow up...but will there be projections on the field done by Pat and crew?  I love that about football to see how they would place the bracket...

I have to think that both SJU and UST get in...well UST is a shoo-in...so maybe they will lay down and the let the MIAC get two teams in....just kidding...

I expect the J's to show up a little better on Saturday night...I mean how much worse could they play then they did one week ago...oh by the way, a little birdy told me that Panning will never be on an SJU game again...or at least that request was made...

Good recap Kneez.  No major, major issues or concerns with Tommies, but they definitely better tighten up on that weakside help D.  Good run & season Oles!

Nice couple of posts VOJ.  At this point it's almost a given the MIAC will get two teams in the hunt.  And yes, this site will light up like a Christmas tree on Sunday.

Here's a link to last year's playoff page. Sometime Sunday afternoon, early PM D3Hoops will announce their projections for the Tourney field.  They do a pretty good job with their estimates & one of the few teams they missed out on was Carleton in the West Region last year. 2006 Selection Sunday

ok...im really confused

why did my last post get deleted??

im really confused on that one and i have no idea why it would be deleted...an explanation would be glorious

HOWEVER, the entire Hall of Fame has the ability to delete posts. There are 10 of them. If they felt you crossed the line on something they could easily have hit the button. Do I want to even know what the post was about.

i just said that i was going to get a tattoo of new hamshire or possibly vermont because everyone is talking about nebraska tattoos so i thought the in thing to do these days is get a tattoo of a state and i wanted to make sure i had one that no one else would have...oh well no biggie

now a couple questions

1. what time is the game saturday??
2. are they selling tickets in advance??
3. are cocktails allowed in the st. thomas parking lot this year or do i have to be sneaky??
4. there might be too much snow for my roller skates this year  :-[

SJU in a monkey stomp. The bandwagon rolls on!!!

Nice work Sumander and crew.  :-*

Thanks Fins. The pit crew did a fine job with the bandwagon after last Saturday! No adjustments needed for ROUND lll.

Nice blue collar win for the Johnnies last night. Starters played enough to get some confidence back, but they should be well rested for Saturday.

Not really a lot to report that hasn't already been said. I think the officials were close to losing this one in the first half.

The game, which had started with a pace favoring SJU, was gradually drifting into a the Gusties' control.

Kel, Don't mean to pick nits, but I think 98% of the people in attendance would say there was never a point in the game where the Gusties even remotely appeared to be in control of the game! ;)

VOJ, I would concur with this 100%. A healthy Wittwer makes this game a lot more interesting. The J's started out the game with Westman guarding Wittwer. This let Westman "rest" on the defensive end of the floor. His first half stats bear this out 11 points, 3-4 from deep.

Cmob,

From today's game story out of the Daily Planet.

Tickets for Saturday's championship game will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today on the second floor of O'Shaughnessy Hall at St. Thomas. They will also be sold Friday as long as supplies last. Three hundred tickets are also expected to be made available Friday at St. John's. Schoenecker Arena seats 1,900 for basketball. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $3 for students.

Championship Cookout moved indoors...

Due to the paltry weather forecast, we've decided to gather at O'Gara's starting at 4pm on Saturday.

Gates open at UST at 6pm.

The signs were extremely subtle, but we were on the verge of on heckuva game. From GAC's timeout at 17-9, until the technical foul, SJU wasn't having an easy time scoring, while the Gustie offense was finding its rhythm. On both ends of the floor, Gustavus was doing exactly what it needed to do to matchup with the size of St. John's. Although stylistically a different game, it was looking an awful lot like the UST game at Gus Young. The Johnnie shooters were hot, the Gustie shooters were cold, yet Gustavus kept it close. If that reverses in the second half as with UST, it's a close game down to the final horn. That would have been fun to watch, and a lot more satisfying for most anybody in the building.

Kel, once again don't want to pick nits.....That's a big if when you say "if that reverses in the second half". Johnnies in the second half of 10 MIAC home games shot 53.1% overall and 39.5% from beyond the arc. I think you are grasping at straws!  ;)

Maybe Mary's should have taken the gusties place just for the St. Johns game cause they seem to match up great with the Johnnies  ;D

Either my press pass or MIAC Media Pass better get me in Saturday. I don't have any time in my schedule to drive 90 minutes back and forth to secure a ticket.

Can we maroon cup it in O'Gara's?
