Sumander,

Are you leaving today for the game? Looks like tomorrow is going to be a rough one.

Don't worry, I put snowtires on the bandwagon and he's got the AAA card.
We'll need the AA card on Sunday after celebrating our championship all night Saturday. 8)

QuoteFYI - I just got back from a lunch run to UST.  They have roughly 200 tickets left.

Any word on how  the St. John's ticket  sale is going?  Anyone?

Heading down tomorrow. Suppose to be a break in the weather mid day tomorrow! Allowing plenty of extra time to get the band wagon there safely!

Fins, I think you hit the nail on the head! Could be a rough return trip to God's country for a number of different reasons!  :D

Nice article on Ike but, the kid talks trash and has an arrogant attitude on the court the whole time.  If he ever decided to hit the weights ever, he would have been First Team All-American every year for the Tommies.

Im right there with OAS and Rat. He is not an arrogant player, he is an emotional player. You wont see Rosefelt talking garbage, only when provoked by opponents or opposing fans will he even slightly start jawing. Hes excitable, and that comes out when he is playing well (a big block, a dunk)-but its just as likely to happen when the TEAM is doing well. Hes matured a lot since he came to UST, and anyone who has watched him knows that. If youre basing your assessment on what hes doing now, not on what was the case his sophomore year, then you must not catch a lot of Tommie games.
As Snow can attest to, he has been in the weight room more than probably anybody on the team since hes been on campus. The fact that he hasnt put on a lot of weight is not from a lack of effort, and even so he has made huge strides in terms of his strength. Yes, big physical posts will give him some trouble on the defensive end, but theyll have just as hard a time trying to match his athleticism and quicks. Besides, you dont have to be a banger to be effective in the post, as his MVP trophy can verify (2 MVPs soon enough).

Its funny how we all see players on "our" team as being a competitor, aggressive, tenacious, etc but a player on an opposing team displaying the same characteristics is a whiner, crybaby, thug, etc. A classic example of this is the Schnettler/Westman debate. From the purple side, BS is an aggressive player who wants to win and TW is a bellyaching whiner....from the red side, the name-calling is reversed. If I was a coach, I'd want them both on my team. Why? They both want to win and hate the thought of losing. That intensity can be found in every one of the starters for both UST & SJU - yes, MW, I'll concede even the Nebraska Towers should be included here - which is why they are meeting again for the title and why tomorrow's game will be so intense and hard fought.

Tomorrow will come down to defense, as it always does in title games. Can SJU play "D" like they did in C-ville in Jan? Can UST repeat limiting SJU to p**poor outside shot selection like last week? These are the keys to this game.

Someone posted earlier that SJU will be looser and that the pressure is on UST. I disagree. I think the pressure is on SJU...UST can afford to lose and still make the NCAA... SJU probably can, but is not a lock. Also, SJU rarely plays well in the Shoe....no valid explanation for this, but SJU is 6-22 vs. Fritz-coached teams in the Shoe.

The first MIAC tournament championship game I ever attended at the Shoe was between UST and SJU back in 2000; memories of that game were painfully burned into my brain.  That SJU squad, which UST had defeated in both regular season meetings, ran out to something like a 15-2 lead and never looked back.

I'd prefer to not see a repeat of that tomorrow, of course.

Regadless, tomorrow will be a fun game. I see no way either team blows the other unless it gets out of hand at the end with free throws. UST's big three must play well along with some reserve help. SJU needs to shoot the ball better obviously but they also need to contain Schnettler. He can change the game in just three trips. Rosefelt and Keating also have the ability to change the game but Schnettler in my mind is the biggest threat. I think it will be tough for SJU to win but it wont take the perfect game to do it. Its not like SJU comes in at 11-11. They are 20-6 with a legitimate shot to win the title.

NOT a good memory...I prefer to remember the game a year before...3 OT UST win.  Or the UST MIAC title win at C-ville where Tauer scored 6 points in 5.2 seconds to turn a 5 pt hole to a 1 pt win

good one Dunkmachine....we know where your mind is :D
