Looks like the Johnnies were deserving after all ( Or atleast someone thought they were).

I've been saying here for two weeks now that SJU was going to get in with a Pool C bid if the Johnnies didn't win the MIAC tourney. It's not rocket science. Don't let the math frighten you; it's not that hard to calculate QOWI, and any ten-year-old can figure out a team's regional winning percentage. Best of all, there's four or five tireless posters in the national rooms (Patrick Begg, Pat Coleman, Ralph Turner, Old School, etc.) who do most of the work for you in terms of charting the various Pool C contenders around the country.

Consider this my roundabout way of telling you folks to check out the rest of the site -- other Posting Up rooms as well as the many other features and sources of info on D3hoops.com -- especially when tournament selection time draws near. ;) I rarely see MIAC people posting in the national rooms, which is why I was happy to see Sumander in the Pool C room getting the 411 the other day.

Greg - good advice.  There's usually a handful of us MIAC posters who semi-regularly lurk in the other rooms in the D3 site.  And I know there's been exchanges of quotes/posts from those boards in other messages/emails.

However, I also believe the level of posting involvement by any MIAC poster in any of those national rooms is in direct relation to the success of our MIAC teams at the big dance.   I would say the majority of posters who posts in the national rooms – CCIW, WIAC, MIAA, NCAC etc. are posters from schools or conferences that are mainstays in the D3 tourney.  IMO, if & when MIAC teams consistently start making noise on a national level i.e. Elite Eight or higher, is when you'll see the emergence of posters who post in those rooms more frequently.  Until such time, you'll have lurkers like me, & we'll wait for one of our favorite visitors to stop by and fill us in on his travels throughout the land.   :D

Good find Snow.

diehard - nice icon. My 16 year old sister made me watch that on youtube the other day. Interesting to say the least. She has a pretty weird sense of humor, I didn't know what to think.

I'd say that statement could be said about me any day! Only I'm almost 10 years older. ;)

Diehard & Snow, I came across that posting as well, in the Multi-Regional Boards a couple weeks ago. Im not sure what to think about it yet, considering this is the inaugural event and there isnt too much substance on the promotional website. Hopefully it turns out to be DIIIs version of the Portsmouth Camp, so more of the guys at this level can get exposure with international scouts and parlay that into some success overseas. If they could get legitimate interest from notable agents and scouts, I think they could make this into something special. I wont hold my breath, considering the lack of history to the event, but Im glad that Ike will have (theoretically) the opportunity towards his goal of playing after college.

OK QUESTION TIME......

I am a MIAC fan.  Any way we can out do the WIAC the better, BUT, how can D3 Hoops act like a real ranking system when St. Johns gets in before two nationally ranked WIAC schools??  I dont want to hear about regional rankings or anything.  I want pure logic.  How can UW Oshkosh 7# in the nation not make the national tourney??  UW Lacrosse 18# didnt make it either but SJU did???  St. Thomas #6 in the nation makes it and gets a bye.  The next best team in America according to D3 Hoops.com is UW Oshkosh and they dont even get in??   Reguardless of anything, those two WIAC teams are head and shoulders better than SJU.  The tournament should have the best teams in the nation in first, then the auto bids, then the at large teams.  Who ever wins this tournament had a very tough field BUT NOT the toughest field D3 basketball had to offer and I think that is a shame.

If SJU somehow miracles a win in the 1st round (which they wont!!!), Stevens Point basically has two byes in a row.  UW Stevens Point will do SJU hard, and raw dog too!
Someone please tell me why D3 Hoops does this.  I want answers in the big picture, NOT "their reginal ranking is good crap"  Real basketball minds and hearts would want the best teams in the national tourney.

If the two teams met, I think Point would win.  However, they have struggled a bit against big teams.  Looking at the SJU roster, it looks like the Johnies have quite a bit of size.  I doubt SJU would win, but it might be closer than you would think.

i know it's not a great answer but in my roaming ealier this morning, i found some discussion about tourney selection.  i forget exactly where i found it.

the most "logical" argument is basically the national tournament will never have the best 59 teams in the country represented in the tournament.  A similar argument could be made for D1. Especially if a national contender gets beat in the conference playoffs and misses out on an automatic bid.

Dunkmachine, Obviously a lot of discussion going on right now about this very subject. go here and read this thread about the present selection process and a new one that is going to be started next year.

I LOVE MARCH MADNESS!!!!

Anyone want to collaborate w/me on a national pick 'em.  Here are the details.

Select a ONE-TIME five man team to use throughout the tournament.  Obviously the longer your player's team progresses, the more points you'll accumulate.

There is ONE CATCH.  You cannot use more than ONE PLAYER from any given tournament team.

Here is the point system.

Points + Rebounds + Assists + 3-pt Field Goals Made + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers - Missed Free Throws.

Your 5-Man roster must be submitted before the 1st round games begin on Thursday.

Check out the multiregional national pickem board, we are already doing one big one for everyone! You are always welcome to do your own obviously, but it should be fun...

according to the front page poll (48%), and chatter from other boards (specifically CCIW, as well as the National Tourney thread), a lot of people dont think they should have to travel to UST, presuming they take care of Carroll on Thursday. though, a closer look at the numbers reveals their QOWI to be LOWER than SJUs, which just shows the irrelevance of national rankings (considering Augustana was #9 and the Johnnies werent even ranked). i guess, according to the numbers, there isnt anything to be upset about if your an Auggie backer. but, for anyone thats seen Augustana play, it seems a rough draw. two top 10 teams meeting in the 2nd round? product of regionalization, i suppose.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Loras will give SJU a handful, I fear...they have a MIAC/Staple (MN) coaching staff, with a former Cobber QB (who led them to a MIAC title) at the helm and former UST player/assistant Greg Gorton as his right-hand man. So they are well-versed in SJU's offense/defense/mindset. I think it looks like they dont have the horse power to win the game, but they definitely are good enough to make it well worth the trip to watch.

Let's just say SJU beats both Loras(probable) and UWSP (unlikely) and that UST handles the Augustana/Carroll winner (probable). With the logical site for the Sweet 16 round becoming The Shoe with a Point loss, my question is: For a neutral site game,  can SJU get over the mental roadblock of playing in the Shoe? Second question: Imagine the chaos a SJU @ UST game in the Elite 8 would produce!  I know it is fanciful dreaming at this point, but its March and crazier things have happened.
