Let's just say SJU beats both Loras(probable) and UWSP (unlikely) and that UST handles the Augustana/Carroll winner (probable). With the logical site for the Sweet 16 round becoming The Shoe with a Point loss, my question is: For a neutral site game,  can SJU get over the mental roadblock of playing in the Shoe? Second question: Imagine the chaos a SJU @ UST game in the Elite 8 would produce!  I know it is fanciful dreaming at this point, but its March and crazier things have happened.

It's noon somewhere.

Maniac, I'm not even going to dream about that. It won't happen.

sju4life

I realize after the last two tommie SJU games people have been "offended that SJU got in the tourney" because all these other teams were ranked and SJU wasnt but....what do those rankings mean??  Halfways through the season the tommies were undefeated ( in conference) going into SJU and Sju was 15--3 (one loss to St cloud state) and the tommies were ranked somewhere around 10 in the nation.  SJU won that game and there next game and still never even made it into the rankings and the tommies never left the rankings.  I would surely think being 17-3 and beating a top ten team in the nation would have gotten us in so I kind of think we may have been slighted slightly all year in the rankings.  I still feel like SJU deserved to be in.  Being someone who went to most games this year and most posters can all agree that SJU is better then there showing the last two games.  I will agree now that we just can not beat the tommies at the shoe.  We would need at least a neutral site to have a chance (which i think is impossible to get in the NCAA tourney the way the bracket is right??)

And quickly other then the fact we got killed by the tommies the last two games why is it im the only one who talks about how bad coach smith has been coaching?? (better coacing wouldnt have won us the games due to our horrendous shooting) but he has early in the game both games used players he hasnt used when beating teams by 20.  He refuses to let ohme, tyler, liesure, brady, craig play 37+ mins!!!!!!!!  ps..craig schaefer is 16-26 fg (62%)   36 pts in 51 of the 80 minutes played  or on pace for .7pts a minute which equates to 28 points a game!!  congrats coach smith!!

Dunkmachine

miacmaniac your name suits you well.  SJU will not beat Loras.  Im going to go ahead and not agree with your "(Probable)" statement there.  If they somehow hit the lotto and do win, they have 0000000000 % chance of beating UWSP!!  If they play UWSP they will lose by 20 plus points, no doubt about it.

OK QUESTION TIME......

I am a MIAC fan.  Any way we can out do the WIAC the better, BUT, how can D3 Hoops act like a real ranking system when St. Johns gets in before two nationally ranked WIAC schools??  I dont want to hear about regional rankings or anything.  I want pure logic.  How can UW Oshkosh 7# in the nation not make the national tourney??  UW Lacrosse 18# didnt make it either but SJU did???  St. Thomas #6 in the nation makes it and gets a bye.  The next best team in America according to D3 Hoops.com is UW Oshkosh and they dont even get in??   Reguardless of anything, those two WIAC teams are head and shoulders better than SJU.  The tournament should have the best teams in the nation in first, then the auto bids, then the at large teams.  Who ever wins this tournament had a very tough field BUT NOT the toughest field D3 basketball had to offer and I think that is a shame.

If SJU somehow miracles a win in the 1st round (which they wont!!!), Stevens Point basically has two byes in a row.  UW Stevens Point will do SJU hard, and raw dog too!
Someone please tell me why D3 Hoops does this.  I want answers in the big picture, NOT "their reginal ranking is good crap"  Real basketball minds and hearts would want the best teams in the national tourney.

Perhaps your logic is that UW Oshkosh wasn't the 7th best team in the nation and UWL wasn't the 18th best.  The polls can be quite skewed.

Dunk- You do realize the Johnnies haven't lost to a D-3 team all year at home right?

I LOVE MARCH MADNESS!!!!

Anyone want to collaborate w/me on a national pick 'em.  Here are the details.

Select a ONE-TIME five man team to use throughout the tournament.  Obviously the longer your player's team progresses, the more points you'll accumulate.

There is ONE CATCH.  You cannot use more than ONE PLAYER from any given tournament team.

Here is the point system.

Points + Rebounds + Assists + 3-pt Field Goals Made + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers - Missed Free Throws.

Your 5-Man roster must be submitted before the 1st round games begin on Thursday.

Check out the multiregional national pickem board, we are already doing one big one for everyone! You are always welcome to do your own obviously, but it should be fun...

i was referring to that pickem, it looked like fun.  i was hoping one of my fellow miac peeps would hop on with me and we could form a duo/trio/x-o braintrust and come up with a solid entry.

I think you mean Division III basketball is doing this, right? Because it almost reads like you think we at D3hoops.com are responsible. :)

PTPer- Loved your Dickie V awards :)

Dunkmachine...what is with your axe to grind against SJU?  I realize they underachieved in two games at the Shoe...the first was because of poor shooting the second was mental to say the least and poor shooting and hey the Tommies are a top 10 team and with the draw should make it to at LEAST the ELITE 8, but why all the venom?

Now about your contention about the best teams not getting in...polls are subjective and not always reflective of teams real ability, for example in DIII football Wesley was not a Top 10 or even top 15 team but the way things were set up they made their way to the national semi-finals and they were exposed by Whitewater...those arguments will be heard for years until tournaments are open seeded, which given the purse strings, will never happen.

Dunkmachine

VOJ,

I really don't have anything against SJU and I don't have an axe to grind.  In my opinion UW Oshkosh and UW Lacrosse deserved to be in the tourney more than SJU.  Being a basketball purist, I just wish the best teams were in period.  I know that doesn't always happen.  I feel the need to talk about SJU because people on here brag them up and I just don't believe they are for real.  I mean come on, someone compared Westman to Schnettler.  That is a joke.

If you want someone who hates on SJU check with MIG not I.  Read the post he wrote tearing everyone on SJU a new one after they got spanked by the Tommies the second time.  SJU will be one and done but congrats on a good season.  There VOJ, I said something nice about them.   ::)

Rosefelt named MIAC Player Of The Week, for the first time this year.
http://www.stthomas.edu/tommies/news.cfm?ArticleID=4801

Really?  And isn't he a preseason All-American?

Anyway, never say never.  The year Gustavus Adolphus went to the Final Four, they played a first round game and then headed to Quandt to play Point, a team that got a bye in the first round, I believe, was 24-3 and an impressive 14-2 in the mighty WIAC.  Guess what happened...The following year, the tables were turned and Point played a first round game and took a bus to Gustavus Adolphus, known for one of the loudest, hardest places to win.  Point won.

So, it's not impossible to win at Quandt, just ask Oshkosh.  Playing the useless 6-degrees of Kevin Bacon...Point swept La Crosse, La Crosse swept Oshkosh, but Oshkosh won at Quandt.  La Crosse beat St. Thomas, but a lot of posters feel that the result would've been different had Rosenfelt played.  La Crosse also lost to Loras.  St. John's split with St. Thomas during the regular season...

So, as I said before, never say never.  ::)

Being one of those people who "brag up the Johnnies on here" I think the Johnnies are a solid team. When I brag it is to get the goats of the other posters. I aim to have fun on this board and bragging is a way to do it. I just love it when people get all fired up about something as silly as "The Johnnie Bandwagon". We made it up and we keep using it because it makes posters just like yourself, Dunkmachine, mad.

As for the comparison between Schnettler and Westman. I believe the comparison was made by one SJU4life. I think we can look at his comments about the Tommies defense a few pages back and see that he is a poster that doesn't know what he's talking about. He was running his mouth without facts AGAIN.

Yeah, first teamer OS. I was surprised when I checked the MIAC page, as I first thought he had taken the title of Player Of The Week 3 times-then found out that number was for his entire career, not just this season. And that makes sense, as his season was more consistent in terms of production throughout. Never too low and nothing incredibly flashy. Only one guy had multiple Player Of The Week honors this season, and that was Bethel SG Tim Madson, who took home the award twice. Keating and Schnettler both were Players Of The Week, as well. Consummate teammates, those 3, sharing the awards like that.  :D

Cheers to the Bandwagon!  That puppy put on a lot of miles during the season and was a lot of fun.

... and don't anyone say that the Johnnies were half foam as they were better than 9 out of the remaining 10 MIAC teams.  They are still playing, which means the Bandwagon is still rolling!
