About fan attendance: I don't know if SJU put a bus trip together for the game, but for football they usually have two buses going to places like Central and UWW and a plane out to the NWC game.
As for seating, I have never been a fan of the large arena, I don't know what Sexton held before the rennovation, but in the 80's it was usually packed (at least the home and Rat sections).

Sad morning!   I just checked out last night's scores and saw that both UST and SJU had lost.   Great seasons for both teams.   The SJU loss was not surprising in light of the opponent, but UST going down was a bit less expected.   Sounds like Carrol is decent however.
Following Bumkneez lead, here are my MIAC pics for all conference (I did these before the coaches/SIDS? pics came out) selecting teams rather than a big group.   Decided to wait til all the playoffs were done to post.

1st team           2nd team              3rd team
Rosefelt            Moberg                  Conboy
Schnettler         Westman               Schafer

Linz                   Keating                  Thrasher
Phillips               Woldeslassie         Ohme

Mention                Sixth Man           Coach

I'm going to give a ton of credit to carroll for their game plan or what i thought they were trying to do...congrats on nice careers UST seniors

Not sure that Carroll had a specific game plan last night. They just played the way they always do. You either stop them or you don't. St. Thomas didn't. I really like their chances against Hope because they have multiple weapons and can make teams play their game.

Carroll should not have beaten Augustana. In fact I made them a 15-20 point dog in that game. Yet they won because they can make teams play their game. In short the MWC isn't as bad as everybody thinks and it's a crime that the MIAC and MWC teams can't play each other in the regular season. I'm not a fan of the current "in region" rules.

Thanks to the administrative regions, that game actually would count. Minnesota games count for all teams in Illinois and Wisconsin now. It would be cool to see some of the "closer" MIAC and MWC schools start playing eachother. Though, of course, we all saw this year how completely fantastic the St. John's and St. Thomas coaches are at putting together a regional games, so I'm sure they've thought of this already. ;)

They are pretty far away, as far as I know.  I mean, the "eastern" schools in the WIAC, Whitewater, Point, Oshkosh, and even Platteville are pretty far away.  If you consider the "Northern" MWC teams, they are even further away, St. Norbs, Carroll, Lawrence, etc...

I think 200-250 Carroll fans was a exageration. i personally would say more like 100, with virtually no students.  In fact nowing how they have traveled to closer destinations, I was shocked that there were no carroll students that made the trip.  I wandered over by thier section at halftime, and it was virtually all parents/ twin Cities alumni.  Maybe 10 students.

to Drake via the MWC room..

For Drakes benefit:

I saw them play Bethel at home where they absolutely smoked them, with a big run in the late first half and early second.  Schnettler was on which helped, but they could go inside to Ike, which is what they did badly last night.  I also saw the near brawl game, where they beat St Johns in the regular season finale, and in my opnion they played better in that game, though it was more physical and well it was St Johns.  However if you can get up for a rival, you got to be able to get up for an NCAA Tournament game.

Will post in MIAC room to see where he sees it first.

Is it any wonder you have a negative karma rating?!?  I admitted in my post ..

I'm not the best at guessing audience size but I would estimate around 200-250  Carroll fans.

So to call it my comment an "exaggeration" is perhaps an overstatement on your part? ::) ???

Just saw your follow up post - the way Carroll played last night was way better than either Bethel or SJU.

IMO, the biggest difference is that UST tried to run with Carroll first rather than stamping their physical superiority over their opponents, as they did with Bethel & SJU.  Once they did that, they started running.

Drake,

It was pretty apparent from listening to the game, that it was all about tempo.  In the end, it was Carroll that dictated the tempo and UST wasn't good enough to beat the Pioneers at their own game when they were on like they were last night.  UST can't expect to win too many games when they give up 86 points.

Willy Wonka

Bryan Schnettler: 26 points on 9-21 shooting, including 4-15 from deep. MVP Ike: 20 points on 9-10 shooting.

Since I wasn't there and didn't listen, I could be wrong...but those stats would seem to suggest someone didn't pass someone else the ball nearly enough.

oAs - Were you in attendance? I have to guess the Schnettler tantrum level may have reached an all-time high yesterday...

MM - I still don't see a response to my question.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

VOJ

Good seasons by both MIAC entrants...SJU had a lapse of about 5-7 min at the end of the first half when they were outscored 15-0...that ended the game, they fought back but the deficit of 19 at the half was too much.  They hit 5 of their first 10 shots in the first half and then 5 of their next 20...can't do that and win a game.

Where do you begin with the Tommies...playing at home, with an All-American center and could be All-American two guard and they lose? Come on...Carroll might be very good, on a roll and all of that, but it sounds from reading the posts(and between the lines) the Toms may not have taken them too seriously?...I guess I was wrong when comparing this team to one that went to the Final Four...

By the way J's only got about 100 tickets for the game...nice contingent made the trip...

Greek Tragedy

I weird thing about the beginning of last night's Point v St. John's game was that Point missed something like 13 of their first 17 shots, some of those layups.  St. John's shot well to start and the score was...12-12.  The Johnnies seemed to be doing everything right to start the game and Point everything wrong and when the Johnnies looked up at the scoreboard to see they were TIED, that had to be discouraging.

I think the key was the Johnnie's big man got into foul trouble and missed most of the first half.

Great careers for Keating, Rosefelt, and Schnettler.  It's tough to see them come to a close.  They are all great players and people.  It was a pleasure to play with them and watch them play over the last 4-5 years.

You have to give Carroll their credit, they did a great job executing on both ends of the court when they needed to.  Their guards shot very well and did a nice job of pushing the tempo under control.  UST might have dodged a bullet by Carroll's Buck Colomy picking up a questionable 2 early fouls sending him to the bench for the majority of the first half.  But, they certainly didn't dodge it in the second half.  Colomy ignited the Pioneers with several half court alley-oop layups, clutch 3's, and his defensive energy.  When the guard tandem for Carroll cooled off in the second half, he got them over the hump along with Ligocki going 10/11 from the charity stripe to fend off the Tomcats.

I was surprised to see the Tommies come out as sloppy as they did.  A veteran team is suppose to play with composure and in control, 9 first half TOs (17 for the game) is not playing composed.  The Tommies got no help from their bench in this game, and ultimately that lead to the starters logging serious minutes in an up-tempo game and maybe losing their legs in the end.  Schnettlers shooting performance was actually pretty good, despite the final numbers as he forced 4-5 desperation bombs in the closing minutes without his legs under him.  On defense Carroll did a great job of limiting Ike's touches.  When he did get the ball, it was typically after making some ridiculously athletic play to snag the pass and then an equally impressive display of coordination to get in position to score.  Playing Monday morning QB, they should have done more to run the ball through Ike every possession.  Along with that, Keating appeared to have his way inside when he wanted to but just never really took advatange of that mismatch.

All in all, a tough loss for UST.  Goodluck to the Tommie Seniors, and the Carroll Pioneers in their tournament run.

What did u expect?  Except in the second game with SJU...did the Tommy bench ever really put them over the hump?  When is someone(besides me) going to call a spade a spade...they had homecourt and the talent to move on and didn't, yes Carroll is pretty good obviously, but you have to take care of business in your own house!!!
