Nites,

Northfield beat Faribault 48-42 in the 1-8 matchup. Filzen faced a box and 1 with a double and triple team the whole night and still scored a game-high 23. Faribault is just terrible this year, they only won three games all year, but they played probably the best they had all year Wednesday night. They led by 12 with eight minutes to play and then got outscored 19-1 to lose. They feature the Princeton offense, but they don't have a post presence, their PG was mediocre at best and Hildebrandt is really their only threat. The Raiders get Austin Saturday in the semis.

Thanks, TH4L!    Hopefully, you'll get to cover hoops this time instead of gymnastics or some other sport.   :)

TH4L: Spare us the daily updates of your newspaper gig.  Take a clue from Wonka, we'd rather not hear about your covering of hs gymnastics or synchronized swimming.  Seriously dood, you are further proof that Tommies do indeed suck!

SUMMIT!!!!!

Did anyone else notice that this morning's print version of the Strib reported that Carroll had beaten Hope? Of course this is the same venerable bastion of facts that listed Rosefelt as a player for SJU when he was MIAC Player of the Week.  (maybe they were wrong about UST & SJU losing last weekend? ;D ::))

"The banks are open in Cleveland Ohio, and Miami has made a withdrawal!"

The  words of the game announcer after Doug Penno, guard for Miami, OH "banks" in a desperation, last second 3 off the glass for the win in the MAC tourney championship over Akron.  March madness - it can thrill you, or absolutely break your heart.

If I'm an Akron fan, I'm sick to my stomach.  :'( ;)

TDT - No worries. Northfield got dominated today and Filzen looked like bench material for a D4 squad. It was the worst display of basketball I saw this year -- and I saw alot of bad hoops.

In related news, the Owatonna fans brought a sign to the Mayo Civic tonight for the section semis saying "Tim Hardaway Hates Century." It was confiscated within 5 minutes, but even the Mayo principal thought it was a great idea.

The best part came at halftime, when an Owatonna fan went and dug the sign back out of the garbage and starting holding it up again. When security angrily closed in on him for the second time, he bolted and played hide-n-go-seek around the facilities for maybe 10 minutes before they finally chased him down. High comedy.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

cmob - Lakeville South and Owatonna.

If the Soule kid from Lakeville goes anywhere in the MIAC, I promise he will be the most hated player in the league. My buddies and I were ripping him pretty good during the Mayo game...while his parents sat directly in front of us. Oops  :D

Chunky, stocky PG type player? If he's the same player I'm thinking of, he's a pretty good athlete & ballplayer, with a bit of an edge.  Lakeville South probably hasn't done as well as they would have liked during conference play in the always competitive Lake Conference, but they've got some good dual sports athletes on their team.  They were state runner up in football to Eden Prairie, & Soule was a linebacker on that Lakeville team. Its my understanding he's going to Augustana in SD on a football scholie.

For several years Soule's less publicized AAU team beat MN's nationally regarded AAU team with 3 D-1 recruits in Bloomington Jefferson's Cole Aldrich, Hopkins' Blake Hoffarber & Mpls Henry's Al Nolen.

Random NCAA question

Belmont Bruins vs. Georgetown Hoyas? I think I'll go with the Hoyas.

DP, me thinks that sickness for Zips fans just went into full-level disgust, as 26 win Akron isnt even invited to the NIT. Ouch.

Major kudos for the avatar. Jeff Green is my favorite player in college basketball. Yes, I am a big flash and dazzle kinda guy.

im not a fan of any of the lakeville south player currently and im happy they had a bad year...not that i care or that this had to do with anything associated with me i dont know anyone over there personally, but what happend over there is an embarrassment...their parents and players ran their coach out of town and he got fired half way through the season because they are a bunch of softies and cant handle a little critisism...then they got their way and got their head football coach and he just stood there and didnt even coach them...he spent most of his time at the games i went to talking to people that were in close proximity to him rather than coaching them...but thats what those players wanted so i guess they are happy with being mediocre...parents are out of control these days...half of them have never even played hoops and they all suddenly become experts on what plays should be run what the tempo of the game should be who should be in the game who should take the shots...its disgusting

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's coming back to me. They railroaded their new, younger coach out of town who they just hired from Albert Lea at the beginning of the season right?

cmob - From what I've heard, coach Addington got run out of office after South got beat in OT by Owatonna (rematch of this game for the section title, BTW) on a banked 3 at the buzzer by Lundberg, the SG going to Northern Iowa next year.

Crushing loss, right? Apparently Addington goes into the lockerroom afterwards and Soule (and others, tho he was the ringleader from what I've heard) is smiling and joking around like they just won, setting the coach off. The discussion got heated and the young AD stepped in before the next game and suspended Addington, essentially choosing football over integrity.

The Rochester paper did a piece on it when it happened (Addington's dad is the former AD for Rochester and was helping his son out.) He refused to throw dirt or really comment on what happened, which makes me think he was too good for the job in the first place.

DP - Soule is good player, which makes it even tougher to stomach. His parents also laughed at the trashtalk, complaining and cheap forearm shivers. I enjoy seeing these type of people fail at life  >:(
