Since this is the more-cultured of the MIAC boards and news is slow, Wonka is going to post a link to his MIAC softball article here. Wonka suggests skimming it until the last quote...you can't imagine how happy it makes Wonka to be able to quote someone ripping St. Thomas :)

SMU renews softball rivalry with GAC - with a twist

PS - You may have to register to read it, but it's free.

PPS - If this causes Pat to create a D3softball board, you all have Wonka's sincere apologies and the right to kick him in the junk without warning with no fear of retribution.

Alright then – if we're digging through the archives, I happened to remember stumbling across a post on the high school board a few weeks back. The thread was referencing the Rochester paper's Big Nine All Conference basketball selections, & then moved into a discussion of a couple of talented juniors, Jordan Hicks & Lucas Kuipers from Rochester Mayo.  A couple of posters wrote:

Poster1:  Jordan Hicks and Lucas Kuipers are going to be a dangerous duo next season. Kuipers has received an offer from UW-Green Bay, and Hicks has received offers from Bradley, UNI, Albany, and UW-Green Bay. Not to mention Hicks is adding strong interest from higher major schools. It should be an interesting year for Mayo next season.

Poster 2: Gotta agree with you there. Hope they both have a great off season and work hard at their game. It should be a blast watching them both play next year - they will draw a crowd. In my opinion Mayo hasn't really had a potential two-some like that on the floor since Schlenker & Boese  (  :o ) played together(about 2000??).

Aah, the memories, hunh Willy?  Good upps buddy.  :)

Juicy Recruiting Tidbit: Big news for Card fans (and we know there are PLENTY of them on this board) in regards to the future of SMU hoops  ::). Ralph Crews from Marshall, WI has announced his intent to play basketball at Saint Marys. He ran a good team (lost to 4 time champ in sectional final-one game short of Madison) in a weak conference, averaging 11 pts-3 bds-4 ast-3 tos-2 stls a game. Reminds me of the guy he will try to replace, Brensley Haywood-not a great shooter, quick, questionable decision maker, good defender. Is that an over the top announcement for a 5'9 PG who averaged almost as many turnovers as assists?  :D

Drake, Are you sure they weren't talking about Wonka's sister that had a stellar career at UND?  :D

Believe it or not, I used to be a good player. The Rochester paper once wrote I was the best player in the conference — when we had Jay Anderson heading out to Oregon and MVP Espo as a junior. Clearly, they were a little off :)

The Mayo guys are studs. I watched them play twice this season. However, the rest of that team is pretty weak so they may struggle against good teams. I expect the 6-6 Hicks, who had Wisconsin scouts at a game I watched, to do a lot of ball-handling if they want to win. Even the 6-8ish Kuipers brought the ball up the court an inordinate amount of time this season.

My 2000 team would have destroyed them...unless we played in a section final game, where my class was 0-5 in hoops and football  :-[

I suspect it was of little consolation that you put your self in the position to go to State 5 times! Wow, not bad for any class, let alone one from a "large" school.

Wow Wonka you musta been some sort of folk hero legend back in the day...

BTW: I trust you realize that the Anoka Tornadoes would have crushed you Mayo chumps, especially in Hoops.  You can ask Dinny about their incredible sweetness...

Isaac Rosefelt scored 12 points in his teams (First Merit) opening game of the Collegiate Basketball Invitational, a 91-83 loss. Next game is at 11 AM tomorrow, with another loss eliminating his squad from the tournament. No box score as of yet.

cmob - You better believe it.

GAC may have found its new assistant coach...I'll wait for the website to confirm it. It's a familiar name...but NOT Dan Monson.

Boxscore is up, and it seems Rosefelt was making his time count with 11 shots in 18 minutes. Hes treating the CBI like a UST captains practice; I like it  ;D. 5-11 from the field, and 2-4 at the line to accumulate those 12 points. Also had 7 boards and a block. As TT would say, the young fellah is goin to work. Not being shy, thats for sure. I like the fact that a teammate of his is named "Joel Box". Most people would say that "Jushay Rockett" is the premier name on First Merit, but theyre missing the simplicity and awkwardness that is "Joel Box". Its for a more refined pallet.

Good find.  Thanks, Kneez

Heard last night from a reliable source that Tyler Nicolai, PG from Hopkins is headed to St. Thomas.

PTPer35

Tough break for Carleton. I'd heard the Knights were in the running for the shifty PG until the center from Edina decided to take a different route. Apparently Nicolai and Krochell (sp?) are good friends and were spotted at the UST-STOLAF game sitting together.

I apologize my leave of absence was so long. With the end of the MIAC seasons and the complete annihilation of my bracket, I was afraid to show my face around these parts after predicting Texas to win it all. (Although I later changed it to UCLA  ??? I have been reading up on the posts sporadically and its good to see the board busy in the off season. I always like reading about the recruiting fiascoes. Wait, there is no off season.

Anywho, I'm back.
