Ok, I'll bite -- how about soccer & hacky sack?  Just kidding.  ;D

Well, I guess my favorite outdoor sport when I was a little kid was football.  Anywhere, anytime, all you needed was a football & one other person.  Then you could play catch, run pass patterns or play kickoff, etc.  If you added other kids, the possibilities were endless.

Football was a great savior  ;) when I had to attend some of those marathon Sunday morning church services when Drake was a kid.  After listening or sleeping through some of those long sermons, the half hour break in between worship service & Sunday school was just what former NFL commissioner, Pete Rozelle ordered for us young & the restless.   We just had to make sure we didn't get grass stains or put holes in our dress pants!

The other thing we had to try & avoid was if one of our parents called us to help old Mrs. Johnson, Wilson, Swenson, etc. out of their car & walk them inside to church.  Sheer torture for a 10 or 11 year old kid, plus we had to smell that old drugstore perfume they used to wear!  But, if we were lucky, they would give us a quarter.  Now 35+ years later, they're all missed.  :)

as a future sermonizer i am incredibly offended that you would rest up for your games during the most important portion of the service.
if you didn't foul out, you weren't trying hard enough...nancies

oh, and basketball because you didn't need anyone else to play.

as ziggy kauls says, "teams are made in the winter, players are made in the summer."  implied is that players make themselves primarily BY themselves, not in sloppy pick-up games.

You're joking right?  As a future man of the cloth, you can't tell me you never feel asleep during church?  There've been countless stories told down through the years of kids AND adults falling asleep during church.  :D Besides, you probably need to work up a better sermon.

Basketball was the 2nd favorite,  then all you needed was a school down the block from the church so you could sneak in a quick game of PIG!  ;D

i'm gonna answer the outdoor sports Q in 2 ways

1- Recess games:  I was awesome at 4-square, but I loved kickball.

2- Playin in the yard: Gotta be football, followed by basketball.

The Tommies 07/08 Schedule is posted on  the UST website

gotta love this early schedule for a "new" tommy team.  a trip down to wooster will be a quick welcome to the season.  followed by winona st. and uw lacrosse.  the boys in purple will defintiely have their hands full, hopefully it brings them into the season with an edge.  but i am sure we will speculate over this some more when it gets closer.

Drake...please.

as a youngster certain of my future calling i sat on the edge of my pew with open ears and wide eyes.

in fact, once when the service was over my parents thought they had lost me and started searching the whole church and parking lot.  eventually they found me at the front of the sanctuary questioning the pastors.  they were furious and i was shocked.  I asked them how they could not know that i must be in my father's house.

CORD announces the remainder of their recruiting class. Doesn't seem like they addressed their guard situation??

You might find it inspirational to sign up for the Daily Devotions writings of another former Cobber hoopster, the Reverend Kerry Nelson (Class of 83).  I highly recommend them.  http://www.covenantlutheran.org/about.html

Nice find Nites.  Are you too a man of the cloth, or in training – seminary?  I always took you for a Carleton or possible MAC fan, but it seems your interests or connections stretch to the great white north as well.  Sounds like an interesting Lutheran church in Houston.

CON
– were you riffing a little John 14:2 – "In my father's house are many mansions..."?  I did stay awake at church more often than not. The fear of being pinched on my arm by my mom, or the threat of having the football locked up in the car usually worked.   ;)

Snow – kickball at recess was great.  The other sport was soccer.  Only the style we played was we tried to kick the ball behind the one of the backstops.  Then the fun began.  The opposing teams would push, shove & kick until the ball came out of one side or the other. The days we played kickball or soccer were the best day to wear those old engineer boots.  ;D

Sum- I think the Cobbs are going to draft a bunch of post players & then make a trade with another MIAC school & see if they can pick up a guard or two that way.  ;D Actually, they've got 2 guards coming in -- Olson from Buffalo, & the guard from SD to go along with their biggs. They must think one of them can take over the PG spot, or think with another year of seasoning, juniors Boike or Meischner will be able to provide a steadying hand next year.  Sure hope so.

I am going to make a statement without doing any research. My guess is they aren't quoting scripture and verse on any other board! ;)

Our little country school must have been backwards. All we played were FB, BB and baseball. None of those fancy sports like soccer!

Drake, Not sure who has a plethora of guards in the MIAC that would be looking to make a draft day trade with the COBS? Sounds like Stu Engen at MSUM has an extra one or two. Maybe Coach S. is working out a trade with the Dragons?

I heard through the grapevine CAR landed Carter Biewen from Armstrong. Can we pencil him in for the all-FY team right now? That brings up a good question...top 5 contributing freshmen for 07-08?
