This weekend the Howard Pulley organization is hosting the annual Sabes Tournament.   Maybe it will be a good alternative to the NBA bloodbath of late.

What's up with the games being scheduled in a HS gym, not at the U or other college sites like they have generally been?
Is is March Madness yet?

Thanks for the link Sum. If I recall, you liked this Townswick kid from Willmar & you asked LocalCoach if he had seen him play.  At 5-7, I hope the kid is wearing an Abe Woldeslassie custom fit jet pack.  ;D

I think one of the appeals of playing for a school such as SJU, GAC & CORD is that the schools & players can usually get pretty decent, consistent coverage in the local papers.  The Mankato Free Press, St Cloud Times & the beloved Fargo "Fool-em" have made a commitment to covering the local high school & college sports. In SJU & GAC's case, they can promote the media coverage they receive & their relatively close proximity to the cities. In the Cities, a representative MIAC school or player is lucky to get one story per sports season.

And with the recent job cuts announced at the Trib & earlier cuts made at the Pioneer Press, those feature DIII articles might become relics from the past.  I wonder if in 20 years, newspapers might go the way of the telegram, 8-track tapes, books & analog tv sets.  Let's hope we can keep some of these items around.  Books would be nice.

Good luck young journalists & writers!  :)

Drake, I have seen Townswick play a number of times in the last 3 years. I think he is going to be "challenged" playing at this level. He has a game very similar to Driscoll from DGF only an inch or two shorter. He put willmar on his back in the Section finals against ROCORI. Brought them back from a double digit deficit to take a short live lead, if my memory serves me correctly. Doesn't have any where near "abe" quickness so my guess is his size will be a liability on the defensive end of the floor.

BTW, if newspapers go the way of telegrams and 8 track tapes might as well take me out behind the barn and shoot me. I would be lost without my dose of morning papers!

I'm conducting an informal interview - do you receive hard copies of the papers, read online, or do both?

I get the Trib at home 7 days week, & on weekends get the PP. Typically, I don't read online, but will surf various news sources.

I get the STRIB and Fool-Em at home 7 days a week. I usually read the PP on-line (we can't get delivery up here) as well as the St. Cloud Daily planet.

I also have the MN Newspapers Directory website bookmarked so I can go to other on-line papers if i want to.  ;D

I should add, I look at the PP at work which is why I only get it on weekends.  ;)

Having a newspaper guy in the family, I guess I'm not surprised you would have this link- nice! I've seen it before,  but forgot to bookmark it.

I assume in 20 years I will be reporting online and not in the paper and online.

I read the Star Tribune paperwise, and the PP, St. Cloud Times, Mankato Free Press, Willmar Tribune, New Ulm Journal and sometimes the Marshall Independent everyday online. Toss in the Red Wing paper as well.

I'm a hard copy person.  I get the DMN 7 days a week.  Reading the paper is how I relax.  I also routinely surf MSNBC on line during the week.

It seems in recent history the MIAC has had its fair shair of pesky sub 6' ers that gave teams headaches on occasion.

The first few that come to mind are:
Augsburg- Graf Kozlowski and Keto
UST- Travis Kalis
MAC - Abe W.

Help me out fellas.

Snow - 6-3 Dan Graf is going to be upset if he heard you refer to him as a sub 6 footer.  Is there another Auggie player you're thinking of, or is there another Graf I'm not familiar with?

I know your former PG, 5-11 Sean "The Menace" Sweeney was not universally liked around the league, but I loved that kid!  But now the Js assistant coach - Pat McKenzie, now there was a player who as my uncle used to say - "would get on your last nerve."  ;D  I'm sure as a coach he's much more subdued.  ;)

I have to give some props to the sub 6-footers. They almost have to play with a chip on their shoulders, otherwise they don't survive.

Nites - what paper is the "DMN"?

Nites - DMN=Dallas Morning News?  You're in Dallas????

Are you kidding me?!? Dang, if this is the case I'm doubly impressed with your long distance loyalty to the MIAC!!

sub 6 footers eh....well then that qualifies all players that are listed at 6' because they are all actually 5'10 or 5'11 and it also qualifies 50% of the players that are listed at 6'1 because half are actually 5'11 and the other half are 6'...its funny how the truth is stretched much like players heights on rosters
