Worth mentioning that former UST assistant Greg Gorton was promoted to head coach at Loras last week. Gorton takes over the job from Chad Walthall, who left to join Todd Lickliters staff at Iowa.

Brady Hannigan    G       6'4"     North St. Paul High School, MN
Danny Johnson     G       6'2"     Stillwater High School, MN
DJ Reese               G       5'9"     Riverland Community College, MN

anyone have a perspective on these players? Im familiar with only Johnson. its a portion of UWRFs recruiting class, and I wanted to get a feel for Berkhofs incoming help. doesnt seem to be as impressive as last years crop, but i wanted to get some insight.

You've come to the wrong person. I'm generally only good for inciteful stuff :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Incidentally, I would've seen this when you posted it, Drake, but I took a three-week hiatus from d3hoops.com and just came back two nights ago.

Glad to see you're back.

Young Mr. Ecker seems to have a fair amount of talent, but musically he's not quite my cup of tea.  Plus, it's difficult for me to get past the tan & I forgot about the flip haircut he used to favor.  ::)  ;)

Musically, the Lutheran colleges in MN have done a decent job turning out their share of talent.  A folk duo called Storyhill, are two graduates from St. Olaf who have enjoyed solid, national success on the folk/college circuit & record for the highly respected Redhouse Records out of St. Paul.

Perhaps the biggest musical name in recent years to come out of the Lutheran college music experience is internationally renowned jazz vocalist, Kurt Elling.  Elling attended college at Gustavus, but I don't believe he ever received his degree.  I think he even lives in your fair city.

Kneez- I believe Johnson was a 2 year starter for Stillwater, and Hannigan was a solid player for No. St. Paul.  I think you're correct in your assessment of UWRF's recruits.  The overall recruiting class is not of the same caliber as the previous year with Jontae Koonkaew & Nate Robertson et al.  On paper I would say that Stout probably had the better recruitng class this season.

Speaking of recruits, what's the latest from Summit & Cleveland?  Any recruiting news to report?

Latest I heard, and I'm sorry it is so vague is that they locked in 3 and are still heavily pursuing 2 others.  Don't have any names...

I am a fan of D2 SMSU. I was wondering what I can expect from Jon DeRock.

Solid D-3 player. Good shooter, good ball handler, solid athlete all around. He should help SMSU in a year or two.

DeRock is a good offensive player, but needs to work being more consistent. He had games last year where he was non-existent.

Well, I'm pretty sure he'll redshirt this upcoming season, we're pretty set at that position. Sounds like when hes hot, he can really score.

I wanna hear news on Augsburg recruiting!!!  You know those boys are slipping into the playoffs with baby faced JC at the wheel.  Add in a side of Femi and were talking playoffs!

usually when i do an activity with all my boys in the neighborhood we usually stick to sports and stay away from kissing  ;)

word no the street is john hanks was told to not come out for basketball this next season...it also sound like up to 4 other player could be quiting the team...if they lose those 5 players along with the 3 seniors that graduated it will leave quite a large hole on the CAR roster

Do you have confirmation of any names?  From an earlier post of yours (?) I wouldn't be surprised if Jay Melson & his buddy Rodney Kuhl wouldn't return, but if they lose any of the "name" players - Johnson, Drake, Rosett, Sutherland, could certainly be damaging.

Kalland has a short bench so that's hardly surprising.  Of the 15 guys on the roster, 6 guys got virutally no playing time.

|-----------------OVERALL STATISTICS-----------------|
SUMMARY              GP-GS Min/G
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zach Johnson........ 26-26  32.2
Jake Phillips....... 26-26  33.9
Tommy Drake......... 23-23  30.0
Bryan Rosett........ 26-21  30.7
Jeremy Sutherland... 26-10  24.2
Mike Kootsikas...... 26-23  29.8
Jay Melson.......... 19-0   14.8
Bobby Schmitz....... 17-0    6.5
Tucker Schieck...... 26-1    7.3
Reid Merriman.......  6-0    2.0
Rodney Kuhl.........  8-0    3.0
Taylor Schieck......  6-0    1.7
Steve Ramey.........  4-0    1.3
Morris Nwogwugwu....  4-0    1.8
John Hanks..........     1-0    1.0

The Knights lose three seniors: Phillips, Kootsikas and Tucker Schieck.  I would be surprised if Melson quit because he is likely to be a starter next year.  If they lose any others beside Hanks, I would think the likely candidates would be Merriman, Kuhl and Ramey.  Merriman and Ramey play other sports and Kuhl played more as a freshman than he did this past year.

it may not hurt their starting line up too much but it could hurt the quality of practices....with that many players leaving and on top of that the college has now made it harder to get players in it may make it difficult to have a full team....i have only heard of two players coming in next year....word is CAR was about to have their best recruiting class ever until a few players got denied by the college...i also miscalculated they will be without 9 players (including the 3 that graduated) from last years team if all end up leaving the team...which sounds very realistic...CAR isnt a school with a whole lot of former athletes that would be willing to go through a season as only a practice player
