Cmob What's the problem at CAR, attitude, work ethic?? :(

Nites You have a better grasp of what's going on in the league than I do and I am a heckuva a lot closer to it than you are! How did you get involved with the MIAC? ???

Drake, Sprinkling in a little irish wisdom on us. ;)
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Willy Wonka

cmob - Sounds similar to what happened in 2000, when Wonka was ready to enroll until CAR stiffed him on his financial aid package. Big Schieck and I would have been a balding force to be reckoned with!

GAC is narrowing in on its assistant coach search. Without any insider timetable knowledge, I expect it to be filled within a few weeks. However, one of the top candidates didn't go over real well when word spread through the ranks of recent grads. Developing...

there is just a lot of frusteration...ill just leave it at that...it has nothing to do with how hard the players work or are willing to work

Things heating up on here....

CAR has certinally seen its better days in the basketball program. After an average season with a first round exit in the playoffs, it would seem frustration is playing a role. I'm not sure why Kalland would ask Hanks not to come out when he had such a small recruiting class, especially after what he has gone through (two torn miniscus in two different knees, one during basketball, one during football and he still came out). It will be interesting to see if the roster is as small as CMob is predicting and how it will effect the squad.

Do you have confirmation of any names?  From an earlier post of yours (?) I wouldn't be surprised if Jay Melson & his buddy Rodney Kuhl wouldn't return, but if they lose any of the "name" players - Johnson, Drake, Rosett, Sutherland, could certainly be damaging.

From all those names you mentioned, I'm fairly sure they're all staying. For CMob to be correct however, Melson or Kuhl would be quitting and with Carter Biewen coming in I'd say its more likely to be Melson since he plays baseball as well and Guy loves his freshmen.

I'm wondering if klomp44 may be the young gentleman in the YouTube video Drake (I think) posted awhile ago. (I'll do him the favor of not reposting it.  ;)) Good to see you with you inagural posts on the MIAC board. I'll send a question back your way (if you check the board again): How is SMSU looking this year and who is going to take your place down low?

Willy - For some reason, a long time ago you said something that stuck in my mind. I'm not going to go find it, but I'll still try to quote it: "I was smart enough not to go to Carleton." At the time I thought you were being philosophical but I get it now. Schieck/Willy definitely would have been the Robinson/Duncan combo (I'm not sure who is older) of the MIAC.

i almost forgot to post about how cool the beer olympics are!!

i went down to CAR this past weekend....the beer olympics are crazier than a woman with hairy armpits singing m.c. hammers "you cant touch this" in a karyoke bar

man if that school had some good lookin ladies i think sports illustrated on campus would have made that would be one of the top 5 events to attend while you are in college

my favorite was the chug a beer baseball bat relay race...it was funny watching people put their head on a bat and spin in 10 circles only to try to run back and fall flat on their face or attempt to run straight but end up going sideways

that was pretty cool...but its about time i get back on track and go to warm destinations to see all the beautiful boombalahties this world has to offer...that is why i will be going to clearwater beach, florida in 8 days....as jay z would say..."big pimpin spendin g's"

I hear what you're saying.  Charles Barkley was dogging Kirk Hinrich of the Bulls pretty good the other day after he was posterized. Dang, it's Rough out there!

Kirk Hinrich, congratulations on becoming a Reggie Evans All Star. Bruce Bowens addition to the team is on hold, pending review.

I do recall saying something like that in the past, but bringing it up now — with the apparent situation at CAR — misrepresents my point. I like Kalland and have found myself cheering for the Carlies when the Gusties aren't involved. I can't speak to his coaching style, but feel like I would have fit in.

What I meant with that quote was that I wouldn't have hit the books enough at CAR, likely turning into Luke Schmidt Version 0.2 and ending up at GAC anyway. Playing two sports and roughly 5-8 hours of Madden each day left little room for homework. But at least my worthless philosophy minor seems to be shining through in my posts :)

Sorry guys, I'm not Klomp, I'm his brother.

We should still be pretty good. We still have Matt Fletcher and Travis Krenske on the perimeter (which is why DeRock can redshirt). They were the top two scorers last year. We lose some good players down low with Chad Orum, as well as Klomp.

We just got a transfer from Division I Northern Illinois. Name is Mike Lochner. From Maple Grove, MN.

Hmm, interesting.  Lochner is a talented player, but he's not from the same mold as Winona State's John Smith.  But then again, we're only talking about the D2 player of the year.  It's also nice to see Matt Fletcher doing well.  He's carved out a solid basketball career at Southwest State – a good kid & good player.

Correct me if Im wrong, but doesnt DeRock HAVE to sit out the 07-08 season? Southwest State is a D2 school, and that would mean hes moving up a division. Moving up automatically renders him ineligible for the upcoming athletic year, per NCAA transfer rules.

He will likely shatter some school records. His career 3pt FG% is .462, while the previous recordholder shot .415. To get that percentage Fletcher would have to miss his first 54 3 pt attempts next yr.

Nites

Looks like Tubby landed his first recruit, Nate Garth, a junior guard out of Woodrow Wilson High in Dallas.  Apparently, as you move North your scoring average increases and you grow an inch.  PP has Garth at 6'4" with an 18 ppg scoring average, while the local press has him at 6'3" with a 15.1 ppg average to go with 8.4 assist per game.  Many of those assists likely came from dumping the ball into 6'10" Anthony Randolph, one of the nation's top high school recruits.
