WOW!!  ??? ???
LC - if you're right, this is the scoop of the year!!  The poster from UST was right.

Wow,  mebbe PI was right & O'Brien should look into a running a concessions service.

DOB will be in Hutch Saturday. Think he'll give me the job? I'm more of a baseball guy, but I'm sure I could get the Pipers back into the top 10.

O.k. Drake, et. all - In the "bombshell" department  :o, I have it from a reliable source that Hamline will be looking for a new head coach very soon.  Apparently Coach Wohler is in fact headed back to the high school ranks.  The destination is supposedly Orono.  I will try to get further confirmation.

Looks like Karnac a/k/a Drake's prediction was correct!

NCA – Orono? That's reasonably close to Wohler's' old stomping grounds of Bird Island.

+k to the detective! ;D

Whoa whoa whoa. Let me get this straight. Wohler kicks off his best player, loses all control of the remaining players/parents and then sees his next best player transfer after the season — a season that was supposed to see them challenge for the conference title. Yet his leaving is some kind of huge surprise, especially with the AD's track record?...

Am I missing something? The guy's reign was a joke, though he did somehow manage to erase the automatic win GAC had when they played.

North - We'll let you in on the debate when Whipdog40 comes back to play. Essentially, it revolved around a non-believer who grew up worshipping NFL pre-game shows claiming to be religious...but we'll leave the details for later, since the football board gets flamed for such talk :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

It's official. Wohler has resigned to take the head boys job at Orono.

(yeah, I'm a new guy on the block)

Aaah, here's the old Willy we've come to know & love.   Ok flame thrower - I guess a coach of a major college sport resigning after three short years is a non newsworthy event.  ::) ;)

From my perspective I don't know which the bigger story is - Wohler resigns, or yet another coach quits/resigns/is fired under the O'Brien administration.

A real journalist would get to the bottom of these stories.  Something to the effect of -- "Sixty Minutes with hard-hitting sports reporter" - Willy Wonka, PiperInsider, TH4L, or where's the reporter for CSN?!!

Reread what I typed. I don't believe I ever said it wasn't newsworthy — I just don't think it's worth the scrolling "WOW" with the "scoop of the year" tag though. Given the way the team/parents quit on him during and after the year, I would have been more inclined to bet *against* his return for the 2007-08 season than for it.

*Editted here to say bet. Not sure where "vote" came from.

I'm not sure either, but I fired off an email to Reusse semi-scooping these two issues prior to Woody making it official. If we're lucky, we'll get his take within the week.

This real journalist is about to take a week vacation, taking in the Twins quad-dip against the ChiSox. I'm hoping so see Ozzie's head blow up.

Ok, I'll play along, it's the off-season.

Hmm let's see --so I post a scrolling "WOW" & write "scoop of the year" on a message board, & I'm accused of over inflating the story. Yet on the other hand you send an email to Patrick Reusse, a noted sports columnist at the largest newspaper in the state on these very same stories.  So tell me again, who's over hyping this story?  ;D

But like you, I'd love to see a Hamline story make one of the dailies.

...and a well informed new kid, apparently.

One other obscure factiod to add to this subject comes from Marshall, MN.  We have a good friend in the school district there who commented just a few weeks ago that when Coach Wohler left Marshall it was on a "5 Year Leave of Absence" rather than just a good old pack up & go, see ya, bye.  It must be nice to know that there's an open door with the Marshall Tigers if somehow Orono isn't as ideal as Bird Island.

Is it true that they never bought a house?
Is is March Madness yet?

It's Officially official...

+k to NCA11 for first breaking the rumor & to someone else for correctly IDing the school.  ;)

In spite of what others may say, this is still worth a shake of my head & to say - "uhh, uhh, uhh."  Wohler & crew were supposed to be the next new wave, of bright, vibrant coaches in the league.  But now, who knows?  Sure looks like Hamline is going back to the cellar, which is not good. IMO, a stronger league helps to make our league winners more competitive when they step out for post season play.

At this point, one would think senior administration at Hamline would invite senior athletic administrators into their office & say - "I think it's time we have a talk. I've noticed an alarming trend here in the past 18 months or so..."

Also, how much you wanna bet former Hamline coaches Jim Hayes & Dan Perrel are tossing their hats back in the ring for head coach consideration?

You really think either wants the job? Doubtful. Plus, A national search to find Wohler's replacement will begin immediately. If National means Bethel or Carleton, maybe.

Pat Coleman

It's a little late in the year to start a national search.

Maybe.....maybe not.

It's amazing who might pop out of the woodwork for a "head job."

Wohler will now be making good $$$$$ at Orono.....heard somewhere between $75K-$90K. (tidbit: Orono parents want their basketball program to be the 'Minnetonka in football" and will pay the bucks to do it)

Hamline prospects? Assistant Brady Larson wants it bad, but his consistently negative coaching attitude hasn't set well with the Piper players. He's NOT their favorite. Perron might be a good fit with the experience he's had in the MIAC.

Timing is everything isn't it?!!
