Woody – Welcome to the board!!  Nites & Sumander are right.  I'd just begrudgingly man up & say – "ok Wonka, you got me" and pick a different topic to joust over next time.  ;)

I'd imagine Word was working on his putting in his living room last night & every few minutes would stroll over to his computer & rap out a few lines.  Nice job Word.

Has Woody gone the way of funbballer and the dodo bird already? His silence is deafening, and entirely disappointing.

I have today off and was looking forward to throwing the Macho Man elbow drop from the top turnbuckle for my finishing move :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Nice epistle, Mr. Wonka. I fully expected you would come to the defense of Coach Hanson and commend you for your loyalty. He should be so lucky to have recruited someone of such great character as yourself.

Having watched a full day of hoops, I was not able to respond earlier, so am terribly sorry to have delayed your preparation for your second attack. (I also spent a fair amount of the day doing some serious stretching, as I figured I'd have to be grabbing my ankles at some point as well!)

Your points, I am sure, are quite valid and I have no reason to dispute them. I just happen, along with many others, to not particularly care for Hanson. Has he done anything to me personally? Not at all. There are just some people you like and some you put to the wayside. For me, he happens to fall into that second category.

I'm not choosing to get into a bonafide pissing contest with you, as it wouldn't produce a winner anyway.  I respect your defense of him and will let it stop with that. I have neither the time, energy or interest to dispute this further. Does that make you a clear cut winner as several have posted you would be, being you "had such an advantage?" If that makes everyone feel better, then fine, you can declare yourself the champ and wear the belt with pride.

I will move onto other discussions and will hopefully be allowed to post my opinions. I may agree with you and may not, but this seems to be a good basketball board for discussion of a vareity of topics and while some are rather anal in nature, I enjoy the banter that takes place.

And for the record, while I have read this board off and on for some time now, I have never before posted on here and am finding I'd better be on guard from here on out!

Thank you for your lengthy rebuttal. The only part I had a hard time with was the vision of "white man dancing" and can perhaps believe that everyone was better for it that Coach Hanson did not step on the dance floor. Somehow I'm thinking that display of aerobics (sp?) may have been less than fluid.

Good day, Mr. Wonka. I hope your golf game is going well.

Wonka is a horrific golfer.  100+ with regularity on some very easy tracks.  TDT would go so far as to say he could beat him lefthanded by 10 strokes.

Which reminds me...How was Chicago Wonka?  Did you enjoy the sightseeing?  Nice hotel?  Good flights?  How was the Taste of Chicago?  Good seats at Comiskey Park?  Inquiring minds want to know...

Along with Pat and just about everyone else, I have to disagree with your no-winner conclusion, Woody. The evidence that he presented in this room on Tuesday evening makes it pretty clear that Monsieur Wonka's urine stream beats yours for both volume and distance. ;D

Don't forget about length of time...which Mr. Word clearly has the advantage in as well.

I prefer whole watermelon spitting contests anyway.

keep up the good work, woody.   it is refreshing to have some new (if not popular with all) commentary on this site.   mark hanson has recently been taking some hits, thus the testy reactions from one of the 'gac frustrated.'   and yes, you did get "hammered" in your argument at times, but really--who cares?     i am curious, did you play in this league?   and are you partial to a team(s)?  no bias has become evident as of yet.   who's next on your target list, steve fritz?   you could always take the road most traveled and get after kozmoski from sto.    rock on, wood.

Again I'll repeat – welcome to the board Woody.  As far as most of the board regulars are concerned - the more posters the merrier.   You certainly are more than entitled & welcomed to share your opinions.  But,  :D as I'm sure you know by now, be prepared to back them up -- especially, if you go on an unprovoked attack & bait another poster.  ;D ;)

I've certainly got into more than my share of debates on the board & managed to win a few, lose a few, & played some to a draw.  And usually the debates have been with your opponent, the "Candyman" & his former running mate – OneArmedScot & their crew.  It's been close to 4 years & I'm still around.

On another note, if you were watching some national HS tourneys at this time of the year I'm guessing you were doing the Indiana & Kentucky circuit.  If I may ask, which team - players were you following?
"If anything here offends, I beg your pardon. I come in peace, I depart in gratitude." ;)

Following all the MN teams....most have made a fine showing in both tourneys.

Damn, my "hammy's" are still sore from grabbing my ankles!

Woody: what's your interest in the HS teams that is significant enough to draw you around the country?  Are you a coach, parent, journalist, or masseuse?

I've always respected Hanson as a coach as well as the Gustavus program in general, but he isn't perfect. No coach is. I remember a particular game at Carleton in recent years where the Gusties weren't getting a lot of calls, and Hanson was on the ref after every whistle blow for the entire 40 minutes. Some were justified, others he needed to just take a seat and calm down. I admire his passion in coaching, but sometimes it gets taken too far.

With that said, the Gusties are one of my favorite teams to watch in the MIAC, and it's largely because of Mr. Hanson. They don't make a lot of mistakes, don't turn the ball over, rarely take a bad shot and play amazing team defense. I respect the man for the most part as a coach, but we all have moments that we're not proud of.

Just lost a long post on my work computer...I'll get back to it tonight.

In the meantime...

TDT, the last 3 times I've gone out I've fired a 95, 89 and 91. I went 36 last Friday and turned in my best scores of the summer. Amazing how good you can get on free golf over a year, eh? Something tells me that you're just bitter at having to look at the Wonka signed pylon from the SJU debacle on 11/11/06 every morning when you wake up...

Fan & traveling on business. Because of that (business) wasn't able to catch all the games.
