I know a Johnnie who ended up starring in two sports that received a package up there that was roughly 10k better than Olaf, GAC and every other MIAC could put together. It made his decision a no-brainer, as he couldn't even really consider the other schools at that big of a discrepancy.

I also know a farmboy who ended up going to GAC for less than 5k a year. I want to say under 2k, but my memory is hazy so I'll be conservative.

Basically, there appears to be little rhyme or reason for most of the packages the MIAC schools put together. But most remain competitive so it doesn't have to be the deciding factor — tho my first choice, Carleton, was more than 10k higher than GAC, Concordia and Luther offered.

I'd hazard a guess that most schools have coaches who can pull a few strings to help out with acceptance and academic scholarship money. Sadly, Guy Kalland only wanted me bad enough to get me accepted so I was forced to go to the national tourna...I mean, GAC :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Someone said a few pages back that Brady Larson was under contract for one more year. I would assume he would stay as it is August already.

It is common practice for assistant coaches to stay when the head coach has been released especially when it is a full time position. The assistant basically acts as a liasion to the new coach. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.

I like the Pipers non-conference schedule:
Sat., Nov. 17 at Southwest Minnesota State 8:00 p.m.
Fri.-Sat., Nov. 23-24 at Wisconsin Dells Tournament
Fri., Nov. 23 vs. UW-Eau Claire 5:00 p.m.
Sat., Nov. 24 vs. UW-Oshkosh/Finlandia 3:00 p.m./5:00 p.m.
Tues., Dec. 11 at St. Scholastica 7:30 p.m.
Wed., Jan. 2 Northwestern 7:00 p.m.

A couple of UW schools, some of the top from the UMAC, a tournament not in Colorado and then a Division II game with DeRock and the Mustangs.

Sat., Feb. 23 vs. Macalester* (at St. Thomas) 3:00 p.m.
That should be a well attended game.

Let's get the facts straight here fellas.  Hamline is 1-5 in the last three years against St. Scholastica and Northwestern, with 2 losses of 12 or more, and the only win coming against Scholastica at home by 4.  You might also not know Northwestern is 6-0 in the last 2 years and 8-1 in the last three vrs. MIAC teams.

Let's not forget about Bethany Lutheran (#2 in the UMAC) who beat traditional MIAC power Gustavus this past January, and came within 9 of the defending D-2 champs down in Winona.

Greek Tragedy

Wow.  I stand corrected.  I didn't realize that St. Scholastica and Northwestern had such a good record against traditional lower-half MIAC power Hamline and that Bethany Lutheran beat Gustavus, a team that was on the cusp of winning the MIAC last year, just a mere seven games behind St. Thomas, and not to forget that Bethany Lutheran did come within 9 points of Winona State (as you stated), in an exibition game.  My apologies! lol  ;) ::) :P

Wow, I did forget that Gustavus only beat St. Thomas once last year.  My mind must also have been blanking when it turns out that bad teams always have the upper hand in exhibition games, and should beat one of the most dominant d-2 teams of the decade in their house with 3300 fans, who should rightly expect their team to lose their opener to a school they hadn't heard of before.

How did I know that AO would show up when I mentioned UMAC?  :D

Greek Tragedy

I thought the original quote of "some of the top from the UMAC" was kind of funny.  That's like saying "some of the top from [the old] LMC".  The LMC has had their day against the WIAC (including Edgewood beating Point two years ago in Madison), but that doesn't mean it's a good conference.  I'm not sure anything is going to convince me that the UMAC is a good conference (just like I thought the old LMC wasn't a good conference).  We can play the Kevin Bacon game all day.  Bethany Lutheran beat Gustavus who split with MIAC champ St. Thomas.  Yippy.  It's called CONFERENCE RIVALS.  I heard UGA is one of the toughest places to play.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled MIAC talk! lol  ;D :D :P

I'd say it's more surprising that point special and old school showed up to talk smack about the UMAC though they have no connection to, or knowledge about, the conference.
