WeRFans:  When you disagree with Johnnies on the football board, it tends to hurt your karma.  That's one of many instances where Northwestern and Bethel can unite.

When your "disagreements" include predicting Augsburg will beat the Johnnies (56-16 in 2005, 60-0 in 2006), how can you argue against them smiting you for being ridiculous?? ???
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

lookout folks... L.W. is coming into the ring.

and if you don't know what the acronym stands for, you can dig a little in this forum, or find out the hard way.

I'd rather that L.W. digs a little and shows me where I predicted Augsburg would beat St. John's.  I remember saying something about Mike Matson being all over the Johnnie backfield, but I think I'd be more likely to predict Macalester over Gustavus or St. Thomas by 3 Touchdowns than pick Augsburg over St. John's.   In any case, a prediction like that would at least give Johnnies a reason to watch the annual auggie thrashing.

Wonka: Stick to facts. AO only argues ridiculousness in terms of counting JV scores as indications of varsity success, ignoring second-quarter scores and calling 57-7 games competitive. :)

... wow, on Wonka's side again ... what is world coming to ...

Pat, You agree with L.W.  one more time and that will be a sure sign the Apocalypse is upon us! ;)

I try to avoid being a spelling nazi on Posting Up, but I never miss a chance to point it out when one of them shoots himself in the foot with his own literary Luger. :D

Take it easy, Greg, it's only pre-season... :D ;D :P

Tough to gain a reputation against the WIAC when you don't play them.  But first things first, the UMAC has got to work up to the MIAC before it can get up to the national power that is the WIAC (though 3-8 doesn't sound too bad-curious what the MIAC vs. WIAC record was).

All three wins were against Superior; 2-14 in the conference (9th) and 7-18 overall.  Nothing to get too excited about, even if it was a WIAC team.

Bethel 107, River Falls 77
Macalester 87, River Falls 73
Carleton 75, La Crosse 64 (OT)
La Crosse 62, St. Thomas 54
St. Thomas 87, River Falls 84 (OT)

NCAA Tourney

Stevens Point 93, St. John's 76

This might be it...not sure.

Instead of writing anything constructive you bring us back to 2005 ::)

I wasn't arguing JV means anything on the varsity level, but when you have nothing else to go by, it is the next greatest test of program strength.  St. Thomas has the dominant JV program in the area over the last couple years, followed closely by St. John's and then Bethel.  Perhaps it's just coincidence that the JV results mirror the actual varsity regular season places, but I'd bet against it.

-----Does it really matter if you misspell a misspelling?   I was throwing it out there as another possible Bethel spelling of the word.

Old School: Thanks for the research.  Judging by those scores, the WIAC still appears stronger, though the MIAC held the actual advantage in games won.  7th place river falls loses in overtime to the MIAC champion, and the Johnnies get crushed when it counts.  It's a safe bet that whitewater, platteville and oshkosh would also do very well against the top of the MIAC.

SUMMIT!!!!!

wow, is AO still spewing his nonsense? the simple truth is that NW could get llucky and beat a middle of the pack MIAC team on occasion, but to trumpet their wins over Hamline (near the bottom of the MIAC most of the past 20 years) as "proof" they could be competitive is hysterical.

Doesn't the UMAC have its own page? AO, try talking to people there...they might think (or not think as the case may be) like you

Miacmanic:  Go ahead and read the previous couple pages before you try to contribute something.  The real topic was strength of schedule for Hamline.  Piperinsider made the argument for a tough schedule with a comment on the scheduling of 2 of the top UMAC teams.  Some Wisconsiners came in to try to put the UMAC in it's place, without knowledge of the fact that Hamline is 1-5 versus the two teams from the UMAC it scheduled in the last couple years.

I am not trying to argue St. Scholastica vs. St. Thomas or Northland vs. St. John's.

will this post illicit another little snide remark from Pat?

I for one don't want Pat doing anything illicit (http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/illicit)

Maybe this will elicit (http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/elicit) a witty response from AO... Im sure he has many more similar meaningful insights to contribute

I don't think I said tough schedule....but rather that I liked the schedule because it had two competitive teams from the UMAC, Southwest MN State, etc.

Any game will be tough this year for the Pipers, though.
