Please excuse my poor grammar.  It must be hard to read my post, as maniac still made no attempt to respond to the content.

Your grammar's fine. It's your spelling that seems to elicit so much commentary. :D

I hear Loras and UST may renew rivalry soon in hoops, possibly in 08-09.  Seeing Gorton on the visitor's bench will be interesting...I think that would be the first time Fritz has coached against a former player of his.

MM, Fritz already goes up against one of his former players twice a year. Kietzer had a nice career in the purple, still holding the career scoring average record (19 a game). Cant forget a guy like that.

Wow - In my 3-4 years around the board, this is probably the longest stretch, over a week without a single post on the board!  So in the interest of reviving a nearly extinct ember, I present the following marginal conversational topics or questions. ;D

AO - what happened to the smack down your beloved Northwestern Eagles were going to apply to the backsides of the Augsburg Auggies in football?  If I read the box score correctly, it seems the Dawgs were the ones administering the beating, knocking out the Eagles 31-26.

In other non basketball related news, an ATM was jacked out of the Klas Center at Hamline over the weekend.

Finally, any reports from any of the schools which FY finally showed up on campus & or at any open gyms? GAC, SJU, CARL, Cobbs, etc.

UST fans --Kneez, Snow, Mose – did the Halvorsen kid from Sibley, Tyler Nicolai – Hopkins, possible D2 transfer Joe Scott, along with the other recruits show up on campus?

Augsburg - what about the flame thrower from Ellsworth - Van der Stoep?

Cobbs – recruits from state champ Buffalo?

Bethel -Bet34 – I heard there's a kid who transferred from UMD who might be able to help out -- 6-5 W/Forward jr. Mike Much from Champlin Park.  (He didn't play ball while at UMD)

Until now I hadn't seen anything that needed my attention on the board. BUT that gigantic SPARK from Drake ( + K for that) brought me out of hiding. Here is my first post in returning.

J's open gym Freshie sitings include: Aaron Burtzel, Kyle Townswick, Chris Schwartz with several other freshman. Also another player came out of the wood work and could be a big factor this year. I can't name any names at this time however. This story is developing.

Watch - I was wondering when you were going to show up. Who's your sidekick - Stockton?

A variation of your opening line goes like this - "let me introduce myself. I'm the cold hard truth."

What about the transfer that Kneez was raving about - Tyler Etheridge?  Did he show up on campus & if so, have you seen him play?  Kneez thought he was the real deal.

If his initials are BB, I'm going to assume he has to be awesome. Though it would also mean admitting his football career was a bust.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Of course my sidekick is Stockton he's a pretty good passer and he's a little guy so he fits in my suitcase on plane rides.

As for Etheridge I haven't heard if he is on campus or if he has been in the gym. I'll see if I can find his where abouts.

Willy- I can't give you any hints but the kids game is a combo of Brady Brink like body with excellent ball handling skills and a solid shooter from all over the court. He will be in the mix this year for significant playing time.

Players that are at St. Thomas:

Anders Halvorsen, Henry Sibley High School
Tyler Nicolai, Hopkins High School
Ryan Fahey, LaCrosse (WI) Aquinas (teammate of Scott Christopherson, who is going to Marquette)
Alex Healy, White Bear Lake High School
David Holcomb, Andover High School
Joe Scott, DeLaSalle High School

may be more, I know these for sure

localcoach

nca11 - If all of those players have actually migrated to Tommie land that's one heck of a recruiting class by Coach Tauer.  I thought that both Halvorsen and Nicolai were good enough to play at the Division 2 level.  And Joe Scott is a transfer from a Division 2 school who played decent minutes as a freshmen.  The rich get richer I guess.  ;)

Drake - I think the "flame thrower" ended up going to one of the private Division III schools in Iowa.

I also can confirm that Mike Much did transfer to Bethel from UMD.  I talked with the Royals coaches the other week and they are extremely excited about the current group of players.

I know it's early still, but I have to believe that the Royals and Tommies are the clear favorites in the league this season.

What can I say?  Weird things happen in cages?  I didn't go, but the winning score appeared to be a couple yards from the end zone on a first down, but it didn't happen.

That ATM bit is crazy, life is a little better on Snelling between Bethel and Hamline.

It is very early.....way too early to be calling the Tommie clear favorites to win the league again this year. Did Keating Rosefelt and Schnettler all come back this year or did I miss something?  Bethel I can agree with but until I see the new Tommies play a game I can't put them at the top of the list.

DP- you know the flame that is MIAC Conversations will never die...just like bandwagons always find a way to keep rolling, and burgers will always be available in triplicate.

I have yet to get back to campus, or connect with some sources since school started.  But thanks to nca11, it looks like there is a new insider.   The new class may have some impressive names, but it seems to take at least a year for recruits to get used to playing for a new coach/system, and vice versa.  This was true for Ike, Keating, Schnettler.

My EARLY feeling lies with Bethel on the top of the standings.

Wow – thanks fellas!  Now I just hope my tears of joy from seeing all these posts in a 24-hour span doesn't snuff out the emerging posting fire.  ;)

A few add' comments...

Watch – might this new Johnnie secret weapon be a 6-3 or 6-4 lefty with decent handles & springs for legs?  If so, I like it but when did he develop a J?  ;D

NCA11 – good job buddy.  Hopefully you'll be posting with more frequency as the season approaches.  If I recall, you provided the first clue this spring that Barry Wohler was looking at greener pastures.

Local - nice to see you're still around.  Although this appears to be an exceptional recruiting class for the Tommies, I'd agree with Watch & Snow & would not declare the Tommies a co-"clear favorite" for the 07-08 league title.

I think pretty much everyone agrees that Bethel is going to be the team to beat this season.  But the Johnnies have got more than enough ammo left in their arsenal to make a serious run at Bethel.  Plus, they have the biggs to throw at Moberg to get him in foul trouble.

On the other hand, I think the Tommies will have a "growing pains" type of season.  On paper they have enough talent to make the playoffs, but I think they're a year away from contending for a league title.  They have a solid nucleus of returning veterans, but no proven, consistent scoring threats.  Out of the newcomers, initially I'd guess that sophomore transfer Joe Scott gets plugged into Keating's old spot, FY Tyler Nicolai splits time at the point with "mini-Schnettler" (Brett Tuma), & the upperclassmen fill out the rest of the top 5-7 in the rotation.  By the first of the year, I think we'd see the lineup that will be getting most of the clock during the heart of conference play.
