In the latest installment of "Quote of the Week"- QOW, we once again have to leave the quiet hallways of "MIAC Conversations" for this week's quote.  ESPN's Page 2 columnist, Jemele Hill, wrote a column earlier this week regarding OJ Simpson's continuing freefall from grace. (Will this man ever reach the equivalent of a moral bottom??) You can read the column in it's entirety here.

While Hill laid down many memorable one liners in her column on Simpson, one of my personal favorites and this week's QOW -

"Too bad Dave Chappelle is probably somewhere communing with elk in Sri Lanka, because O.J. has provided enough material to fuel a fourth season of "Chappelle's Show."

Another tip of the old cap goes again to Cmob for providing this week's Picture of the Week, courtesy of Word Wonka Wire Service. ;D

Another round of longnecks and Texas Beef Brisket for Coach Gundy.  It's on me.

Border battle faux pas, sorry about that Texas reference.

CMOB - what kind of big juicy burgers do they serve in Sooner country?  Help me out here!

Perhaps, faux pas number 2?   :)  Wouldn't that be Cowboy country?  Sooner fans may lynch you for that one.

His whole rant is ridiculous. If the story had contained incorrect information, rather than just upsetting a mother, perhaps then he'd have a point. Trying to paint a D1 player on scholarship as an underpriviledged person just looking for a break in life is amazing. Plus, the lady's editor stood by the story and the Football Writer's Association of America backed the paper while simultaneously ripping the coach.

Standing up for a player is a completely different issue that what he did, while also ignoring a great upset victory his team had pulled off. Check out the Forde-Yard Dash on ESPN.com for a solid take on situation.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

This looks like a who's who of the MIAC board. Moose is clearly #5 and I might be #8, but who fits the other ones? :)

I'm not sure of the others, but I'd go with Voj for # 3.   Every game he discusses on the board seems to be impacted by a ref's whistle in one way or another.  ;D

in sooner country they skip the tripple burgers and go straight for the heffers...im talkin some big porter house action with a big side of mashed per-taters...and the best part is they have a boombalahty bring it out to you on a nice hot plate...now if they were to serve a burger there it would be a steak burger with some BBQ sauce dripping out the sides and every bit would be filled with juicy delight....ill give you a report on texas in about 10 days...im headed down to dallas (the land of glorious boombalahties, it even says so on their license plates) to watch my second favorite team to the gophers of course...i will watch oklahoma destroy texas and i will eat a texas size tripple burger and i will laugh at the texas fans with tripple burger grease dripping down my face as oklahoma scores TD after TD...and then a boombalahty will come clean my face up for me and hand me and ice cold brew-ha and say im so happy i could bring you a beer

im going to dominate next weekend and i will report all my findings...i will probably have to get some bigger roller skate wheels to roll around the city of boombalahties since everything in texas is bigger

on a side note...the gophers are going to beat the buckeyes because the stickers on their helmets resemble a certain part of the butt

I just got my first chance to watch this and I love #3 giving the guy the "T" and then tossing him!!  ;D  I'd love to see that in a pickup game!

Hello everyone.

I know this was many pages back.  But i haven't read anything for months.  i don't know if this question was posed to deliberately incite me to respond, but if the question didn't do it AO's answer surely has.

I am really sick of the notion that Christianity is measurable or determinable.  I am especially sick of the notion that the measurements be relative to a type of behavior or matter of practice.  Northwestern is not Christian because they don't swear, or speak certain words at the beginning of class, or require the physical presence of their students in a certain room at a certain time.  The only thing that makes northwestern or any other school (or any community, or person) Christian is the presence of Christ as the Word communicated by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus drank frickin' boat loads of wine and sat at dinner with prostitutes, gamblers, robber-barons, and the like.  Hosea (great prophet in the old testament) married a prostitute.  Jeremiah (great prophet) advocated roaming the streets naked with undergarments on one's head in order to communicate the gospel.  Abraham lied about his marriage and offered his wife up to adultery....etc, etc, etc.

long post, thought it was worth it.

Wow this must mean Siverson recruited three 5-Star guard prospects to play for him huh? If not, the last time I checked Luke Linz is good enough to win his team a ball game but I think a MIAC title may be a stretch.

I was not trying to make a case for measurable Christianity, rather I was pointing out the unique aspects of Northwestern College.  Can you call music "christian"?  Several bands under the genre "Christian" try to distance themselves from the label, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a convenient label.  If the members of a group are all Christians and the ultimate purpose of the group meeting is to promote Christ, then I would say it's fair to call it a christian group.  In the case of Northwestern, all students and faculty are Christians.  Unless they felt like lying while signing the community statements.  Simply, Northwestern is an intentional group of Christians together with a common purpose of teaching and reaching all nations for Christ.

On a minnesota basketball note, William Maupins from St. Scholastica was drafted as the 17th pick in the CBA Draft a couple of nights ago by the Great Falls Explorers.  I'm not sure how this draft works entirely, but Chris Richard who was drafted by the Timberwolves a couple months ago was drafted 19th in this CBA draft.

It is not within their power to tell the truth or lie when signing a document labeling themselves as Christians.  That's the point.

The history of the church is riddled with  persons or groups recognizing themselves as "Christians" and passionately living out an "intentional" lifestyle only to be now regarded as heretical, or outside the official teachings of their given church.  Christians don't choose their Christianity, they are acted upon by Christ.  Regardless of what you said or how willing you are to distill it now, the point is that your response contains within it an implicit understanding of Christianity and the Christian life as primarily a handful of right behaviors and acknowledged sayings.

Mark that I said "your response" and not "you."  Luckily it is also outside of our power to accurately represent our own standing in respect to matters faith.  As such only your opinions may be held up for scrutiny and dissection, while you and your soul are unassailable by me or any other.

I didn't even know the CBA had a draft.

Sumander, I would never take that bet.  Here's what I would wager, St. John's finishes 3rd or lower.  Concordia finishes 8th or higher.
