20-0 for a Miac record next season isn't going to happen.  As good and well coached as Bethel is they won't be able to run the table, especially on the road.  Last year on the road they were played tough by St. Olaf and Hamline.  Though it was early in the season.  They had trouble finishing off Augsburg in the last game of the season last year and the dreaded Concordia trip almost nipped them as well.  I think they will win the conference, or should win the conference, but to go undefeated isn't going to happen.  And i only use Bethel because they are the only team in my mind with chance to go unbeaten.

concordia of the north

good catch, Lost Prophet.

I take it back.  I guess it is possible that no team will go undefeated in the MIAC this year.

bringing up more topics to discuss...possible all-miac teams, poy, etc...basing off of the setup of teams in the past I think, at least on paper, these will be the members of each team...

All-MIAC first team (by team, alphabetical order)-

Jon Cassens- Augsburg
Darren Nelson/ Zack Krumwiede- Augsburg
Femi Sojala- Augsburg
Tim Madson- Bethel
Mike Moberg- Bethel
Tommy Drake- Carleton
Zach Johnson- Carleton
Luke Linz- Concordia
Trevor Wittwer- Gustavus
Tony Thrasher- Hamline
Tom Conboy- Macalester
Abe Woldeslassie- Macalester
Ryan Lieser- Saint John's
Brady Brink/ Tyler Ehteridge- Saint John's
Joe Scott- St. Thomas

POY-  Mike Moberg or Luke Linz

Coach of the Year-  Aaron Griess (I still think Augsburg will finish 2nd in the conference)

sixth man, honorable mention and defensive teams yet to be determined...any thoughts on newcomers who could really make a difference...my top 2 newcomers are both transfers...Joe Scott at UST and Tyler Etheridge at SJU...both should average double figure points this year and Scott may have to lead the Tommies...

maybe some of the Cobber recruits will make a splash...how bout some of Auggie's frosh?

anyone else want to share?

Well, it's about that time of year again!

Look for Lonnie Robinson to have a big year for UST.  He will have to put up some big numbers in the scoring column since UST is losing the majority of their scorers.

Joe Scott is pretty good and will step right in and have an impact.  He's an athletic dude that can shoot and looks to score everytime he touches the ball.

There will also be a number of guys that will have to step up that played in limited roles last year, especially in the front court, McCoy, Baker, Shimek.........

I think for the first few games, UST will be playing quite a few guys to determine who can play and who can't.  They have a tough schedule as well, with their first 6 games being on the road.

Fritze needs only 12 more victories to reach the 500 victory mark, which is an awfully impressive mark.

and so the season official begins today.  stories to keep an eye on...

the Nelson Whitmore era at Hamline has begun...
Bethel starts their title run...
start to a surprising year for the Cobbers and their "banner" recruiting class?
can UST's Joe Scott live up to the hype given to him all summer and fall?
what will Tyler Etheridge do for the J's?
does Carleton still only have 11 guys?
What will the Auggies have in store for year 3 under Coach Griess?
What game will Fritz win #500 (sitting on 488)?

For some reason, that one really made me laugh.  It also makes me curious if any of the miac or d3 gurus know of any 10/11 man teams that have been highly succesful.

i just want everyone to know that Bo knows...it doesnt really matter what the subject is but Bo knows...Bo knows football, Bo knows tic tac toe, Bo knows cross country skiing, Bo knows sundials, Bo knows boombalahties, and Bo knows kyle foster...

one thing Bo doesn't know is roller skating...Bo and i had a roller skating derby skate off yesterday...i went first and dazzled the crowd with my speed and power...the boombalahties wanted to carry me off the derby floor and serve me beer but i said no because i knew they just wanted to rip off my spandex roller skating jersey and sell it on ebay...i did let them serve me a beer though and one sat under each arm as we watched Bo perform

Bo came out in his Oakland Raiders Spandex roller skating out fit...he was off to a good start and i began to get a little nervous...but then Bo lost circulation in both legs because he did not hang dry his jersey after his last derby...he put it in the dryer and it shrunk...Bo fell the ground with a thunderous collapse...everyone was worried but Bo crawled off the derby rink into the locker room and changed...he came back out and asked me if he could by me a tripple burger and i said okay only if he could rush the football from one goal line to the other and then all the way back to the original goal line and then all the way back for a touchdown (300 yards total) without getting tackled...Bo said "Bo knows football" and he went to work...here is the video footage

Fellas, fellas , fellas -- I'm out here traveling & when I've periodically checked the board, the posting news has been less than newsworthy.  Snow, D3BO, Cmob, Sum, somebody, anybody, stir something up & dig up some info.  Otherwise, I'll have to make up some news or rumors when I get back.  ::) ;D

Cmob & Sum -  I'd vowed to not eat at any chain restaurants while I was on the road, but when I saw a sign for a "Carl's Jr," one of the original burger joints from the 50s along with M&Ds, I had to check it out. While not as tasty as a Nook burger, Carl's "Jalapeno Burger" had some kick to it, & the required juices to make it a "guilty, fast food burger pleasure" – GFFBP.  It sorta reminded me of a  Hardees' burger.   They had the same 6-dollar burger & "Thick-burger" concept too – hmm, are they related?  Carls' was certainly cleaner that the Hardees I occasionally visit on the down low.

One semi related basketball note. D3BO – The last time one of my birdies chirped several weeks ago, they indicated they hadn't seen hide or hair of this Etheridge kid at C-ville.  Anybody in the know want to fill us in?

And in closing, before we concede the 07-08 MIAC crown to the Royals keep this in mind.

In looking over the SMU roster, one FY name that I noticed is Ralph Crews.  Somewhere I recall reading or heard someone say that he's supposed to be the real deal as a pass-first, tough, quick PG. Anybody in the know, Kneez?  Otherwise, it looks like more guards for the Birds, a "string bean" forward, 6-7 190lb Pat Connolly out of Chicago, & a "tight end" built post guy, 6-5 220lb Ben Nieman Clear Lake, IA.

Yeah, I posted a little diddy on Ralph Crews a few months ago, when times were slow on the board. Should fit right into the Saint Marys system. Look for him to be a good player, at best. He isnt a program changer by any means. Still, I'll always welcome pass-first PGs into the MIAC.

Ralph Crews from Marshall, WI has announced his intent to play basketball at Saint Marys. He ran a good team (lost to 4 time champ in sectional final-one game short of Madison) in a weak conference, averaging 11 pts-3 bds-4 ast-3 tos-2 stls a game. Reminds me of the guy he will try to replace, Brensley Haywood-not a great shooter, quick, questionable decision maker, good defender.

And, you guys werent kidding, Tyler Nicolai is legit. Hes a definite candidate for Newcomer of the Year. Look for him to push Tuma right from the get go. Wouldnt be surprised if hes the purples starter at the point come December.
