Watched him twice last season in the playoffs - beast inside with nice touch. At 6-5, he should make a nice 4/5 in the MIAC. I guess my best comparision would be Phil Sowden.

The best part....he will carry on the tradition of under T-shirts. Sweeney white?

I also have seen Jason Berger of GFW play...on the JV roster. Nice ball player that averaged 15 ppg on a team that had a solid 5 last winter. Berger was hurt for most of the season if I remember correctly, but came back for the playoffs.

st. thomas finally has posted their roster:

lots of new faces - anyone know much about the milliard kid from sleepy eye?
Anders Halvorsen had a strong year last season at Henry Sibley. I wonder if his size can be put to use as a freshman?

Wow, the Tommies' recruiting motto this year must have been – "If you can't beat them with quality, beat them with quantity."   ;) Numbers for Snow, Kneez et al to crunch & ponder:

(29) – total combined players between varsity & junior varsity
(13) - FY players (I think they listed several players as FY who are actually sophs)

VARSITY
(17) Varsity players
(2) Players under six feet
(13) Players 6-3 or taller
(4) Players 6-6 or taller

(1) Fulltime starter from last season
(5) Freshmen on varsity
(2) Cretin HS graduates
(2) DeLaSalle HS graduates

I admit I haven't seen Big Al McCoy since early this summer, but is he a legitimate basketball 6-6 tall (that is –within an inch of stated roster height    ::) ;D)?

Practices & competition for starting spots, let alone playing time must be absolutely fierce.  I have nothing to base this on, but here's my early season guesstimate what a top 9-10+ Tommie rotation might look like.

PG – Brett Tuma (Tyler Nicolai)
2G – Lonnie Robinson (BJ Viau)
W – Joe Scott (Teddy Archer, Tommy Shimek)
SF – David Baker (Josh Peltier, Anders Halvorsen (?))
PF – Al McCoy (the Milliard kid ?)

It's been a long time coming, but MIAC basketball season is almost back. The best time of year no doubt and can't wait for the season to get started. Bethel scrimmages St. Cloud State this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Robertson Center at BU and it will be interesting to see how things are progressing for the Royals who have to be one of the favorites coming into the year as they return First team all MIAC players Tim "Lights Out" Madson, and Mike "Big Daddy" Moberg. Both should continue where they left off last season. So it will be interestig to see how they match up against the Huskies. Should be a fun year and can't wait to get things started.

Just some information about those Cards in southeastern MN. The cards are scrimmaging this Saturday against Bethany Lutheran and then next Saturday at St. Scholastica.

From the looks of it they brought in a talented freshmen class. They seem to be meshing will with the the returning core of Rohr, Lear, Cormier and the Knights.

I am excited to see what stirs up in southeastern mn this year.

Al is more like 6'4.  Not even close to 6'6.  Word from campus is that Al has been injured most of the fall so far and hasn't completed many practices.

They host Eau Claire this weekend and then Loras the following weekend.

Should be interesting to see the Gophs in action tonight.  Maybe they can be at DII team this year.

Bow - you & I both know that, but maybe the rest of the league didn't know. Unless he grew over the summer.   ;)

How are the newbies looking?

In other news, hot off the presses – D3 hoops releases the Pre-season Top 25.  Nice to see Bethel get some recognition in the Receiving Votes Category – 29 votes.  But on the other hand, what were the voters thinking giving the Tommies 18 votes?!? Even the MIAC coaches aren't going to pick them to finish 2nd in the league.

Still no rosters for Hamline and St. John's  ::).  I know there is a new SID on Snelling, but come on, it's November. Nothing up for any winter sport.

I'm very intrigued to see the Pipers roster.

Nor the Cobbs, or Johnnies.  Like you I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what these 4 remaining teams will bring to the games this winter.   If it's any consolation, the WIAC had their hoops media day today & some of their teams still don't have rosters posted yet either.

One down, 3 to go - Cobbers get their roll on

How is it one down, 3 to go when it's only SJU and HAM?

Besides UST, I can't think of two other MIAC rosters that I wanted to see a few weeks ago.

SUMMIT!!!!!

I'm beginning to get a little dissapointed with the SID's in the MIAC.  16 days after practice starts and still most have not posted rosters yet.  What's the hold up ???

They can't post hat the coaches haven't given to them  :)

What, did you take your Wonka pills today?  My point was that there were four,  now three teams left that had not updated their rosters - Bethel, SJU & Hamline.

If your smarta$$ reply is that you don't care..  then I'll laugh myself silly when one of these anonymous teams proceeds to whump your Pipers' butts senseless. During the process, they look you up in the stands, & channeling their best Muhammed Ali yell in scorn -"what's my name chump?!?"  ;D

Interesting to note that the Cobbers probably have as many kids from the StC Times area as SJU does...and they landed Hagemeyer from Willmar. I'd assume PI might have seen him play-- a physical presence in the paint?

Also, looks like UST landed a talented out-of-state kid they didnt do much (if anything) to recruit...last time I can recall that happening it was some kid from Nawlins. He turned out fairly good, if I remember right.
