Really have no idea what to expect. I think Bethel will win the MIAC with 2-3 losses but from there its up in the air. I think Holmgren is a sleeper this year for the Royals but PG play will really determine how far Bethel goes. I'm not as high on Olaf as some but recognize they are a dangerous team and I'm sure are eager to get back to the playoffs. Carleton will be extremely inconsistent pulling some upsets and losing some in ugly fashion. St. Thomas will win some games but I think/hope this is the first year they miss the playoffs in awhile.

and one last thing...coach brewster picks up 2 nice recruit commits tonight for the gopher football team

i wonder how many good players he would be getting right now if we actually would have won a few games this year

he already has a better recruiting class than mason's last 5 years combined and he still has 8-12 more schollies to give out!

Does anyone know anything about the newcomers from the La Crosse area?
Shmidtknecht at Gustavus, Holland at St. Mary's, and Fahey at St. Thomas? Heard that Holland is a stud and will start for St.Mary's (not a tough line-up to crack).

That's great VOJ. More info to follow. The contest will be over on the MIAC pick-em thread.

if you haven't done so already...get your preseason standings picks in by friday.

Snow - not that it's a big deal, but why do we have to get our pre-season conference picks in by this Friday?  Why not by, say Monday 11/28?  Actual conference play doesn't begin until Wednsday 11/28.   But it's your game,  I'll go along with the game director. :)

Speaking of games, now SDGusties & Sum - Is Sum going to do the Pickems & SDG you're doing the YNOT?

Holland will probably start along with another freshman will wright... Both are good scorers, can get to the hoop, and have good speed.  Apparently Holland has averaged about 15 or so in the two scrimmages

So what's the consensus.  Are we doing pick em' this year then or ???

Drake - I noticed you said you took in the River Falls-Bemidji State game over the weekend.  How did the RF look?  What about Bemidji State with all of those talented freshmen?  BTW - Did you chat at all with former Hamline Ass't Jeremy Tiers?

One other thing to add - I continue to hear that the Pipers may start as many as 3 freshmen to go along side Thrasher and Kujolic.

Local- What happened to Gusaas?

Sum, et al.- I'm in for pick'em as well.  I think I'm ready to run with the big guns this year! ;)

Who will be the powers and sleepers in the MIAC???

No doubt Bethel is stacked. With returning scorers such as Tim Madson and Mike Moberg and blue chipper Eric Hugoson, they are quite possibly at the top of the pack. Another tough squad is going to be St. Johns. Returning one of the top players in the conference in Brady Brink(why didn't he start for them last year?) and a solid scorer in Ryan Leiser. They also picked up a real steal in freshman Chris Swartz who is definitely a D2 talent.

Augsburg and Hamline are two very young teams that will potentially raise some eyebrows in the conference. Augsburg returns Jon Cassens who is a versatile scorer and will be joined by newcomers Aaron Van Der Stoep and Matt Quammen. They also return Femme Solaja, a beast on the interior. Hamline is another squad I think will do some damage. They lost scoring in Derock's transfer to Southwest Minnesota State and the graduation of Sam Weiner but made gains with an under the radar freshman class and a solid transfer in Nick Carroll. They also return Tony Thrasher who is a multi talented scoring threat and will need to be the focal point for this young squad.

A little misguided, but I appreciate their intent.  ??? ;) Mebbe Pat, or one of the HOFers will lead him/her & their post back to their home board.  ;D

I like his enthusiasim. I felt like I was reading a press release from the underground MIAC network!!  ;D ;D ;D

How's the rest of the team looking -- Mikey Sweeney, the Knights, Rohr, Cormier? Any other FY getting clock like Ralph Crews or Mario Allen?  Inquiring minds need to know.   8)

Just read the Cobbs preview & it sounds like they're going to try former forward 6-4 Ryan Johnson or 5-10 So Jason Huschle at PG.  If that doesn't work, they're going to give them the quick hook & try one of their freshmen.  I'm guessing that would be either Erik Lien or Karl Olson.   Sounds like the coaches said - "hey, look fellas -- last year we had a big problem at PG & this year we're going to fix it.  If you're not up to it, we're going to the next player until we can find someone who can more than adequately run point."

Tough love up in Spud-town.  :o :D

Mac preview is up as well & they seemed to have mixed up my man Trey Mullens, with Colin Keeley & Kyle Hamblett.  So I'm not sure which of the 3 FY we'll see hit the hardwood this season.
